Abstract: A method and apparatus includes an electronic device that displays 110 a plurality of members on a first portion of a display and receives 115 a first input on the first portion of the display, wherein the input selects a first member from the plurality of members. Then, the electronic device enlarges 120 the first member and displays 130 additional information associated with the first member on the first portion of the display. After the selection, the device determines 135 if the received input is an entry input. If the input is determined to be an entry input, then detailed information associated with the first member is displayed 140 on a second portion of the display.

Abstract: A system and method for aggregating IP flows in a telecommunication network is disclosed. A multi-protocol flow representing packets captured from the telecommunications network during a selected time period is displayed on a user interface of a network monitoring system. The multi-protocol flow is highlighted on the user interface display if any session records within the multi-protocol flow do not meet operator-defined criteria. The user interface detects a user's selection of the multi-protocol flow and displays a plurality of protocol-specific flows that are within the multi-protocol flow. The user interface detects the user's selection of one of the protocol-specific flows and displays a plurality of session flows that are within the selected protocol-specific flow. Any session records that do not meet operator-defined criteria are highlighted on the user interface.

Abstract: A system for identifying prior selection of specific display information on an EPG. In one embodiment, a user selects an object on a screen, and upon selection of the object, an attribute of the object (e.g., color, transparency, etc.) is modified. The modified value is saved into memory so the user may later identify that the specific object was selected. Each subsequent selection will modify the attribute further, allowing the user to identity that the object was selected a number of times. In one embodiment, the attribute will continue to be modified until a specific expiration limit has been reached.

Abstract: A display apparatus and a control method thereof are provided. The display apparatus includes: a display unit which displays an image; a user input unit which receives a user input; and a controller which controls the display unit to display a plurality of first icons corresponding to a plurality of content items selected by the user input and at least one function which commonly corresponds to the plurality of content items, and performs the function selected by a user input.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a computing device, including a controller to: transmit a client program having a graphical user interface (GUI) to a media device operating in an interactive television (iTV) network, wherein the client program presents a symbolic overlay that superimposes onto media content received by the media device and enables the media device to associate comments with the media content received at the media device, and wherein the comments are presented by at least one symbol in a temporal vicinity of the media content; and perform a highlighting event when a cursor of an input device is positioned at or near the at least one symbol of the presentation of the symbolic overlay. The communication module is configured to communicate with a personal database and to receive a plurality of digital images associated with a respective piece of clothing and/or an outfit from the personal database. The display is coupled to the communication module, and configured to display a first digital image associated with a recommended outfit based on a plurality of daily events associated with a user of the device. The display is also configured to display a second digital image associated with an advertised piece of clothing, and configured to enlarge the first digital image associated with the recommended outfit if the first digital image is selected or to enlarge the second digital image associated with the advertised piece of clothing if the second digital image is selected.

Abstract: A motor vehicle operating device has a display device, an operating element and a control device, which are mutually coupled and set up such that an operating element symbol that corresponds to the operating element with respect to its outline shape is displayed on the display device. Navigation through a hierarchical menu structure displayed on the display device can take place or takes place by use of the operating element. The operating element can be operated corresponding to a plurality of operating degrees of freedom. Different groups of operating degrees of freedom are enabled for the navigation at different locations of the hierarchical menu structure. Those operating degrees of freedom enabled at the current location of the menu structure are displayed on or at the operating element symbol.

Abstract: Methods, program products, and systems for mini-form view of data records are described. Each data records can be formatted according to a layout. The layout can define an arrangement of various data fields for display. To display multiple data records, an image can be created for each formatted data record. Each image can be a snapshot of the formatted data record. The image can have a size that is smaller than the size of the layout. The arrangement of the data fields can be preserved in the image. Multiple images of formatted data records can be displayed in a single window. By displaying formatted data records in images, the “look and feel” in the layout of each data record can be preserved, even when multiple records are displayed. The mini-form view can display data records from multiple shared databases.

Abstract: Selections from a long list of elements on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) are presented. When a context window is presented for the selections, different cues are provided in the context window to provide feedback regarding the selections that are not in the current view, and to also facilitate rapid navigation to those selections on the GUI. Interaction with the GUI widgets within the context window, and interaction with the context window itself, facilitates the navigation toward the other selections that are not in the current view. Interaction with the GUI widgets also facilitates the preview of the selections that are not in the current view, thus making it easier to determine what has been selected without having to navigate to the view that contains those selections.

Abstract: A system is provided to assist a user in selecting, identifying, and handling email messages. A selection color module may provide for the display of color coding and selection highlighting. The selection color module may provide a secondary highlighting color to indicate messages related to a selected message. A category navigation module may provide one or more of the following: an indicator that provides the user with a number of items that are off the screen for a particular category, a command that causes the first entry for a category to be scrolled into view, a label to indicate the number of items in a particular category matching a particular criteria, and/or a control for scrolling between next or previous categories.

Abstract: A method and computing device for providing reminders associated with calendar event data stored in a memory device of the computing device is provided. The calendar event data comprises a start time and an end time associated with a calendar event. A list of items is received. The current time is compared to the end time via a clock device associated with the computing device. If the current time substantially matches the end time, a display device in communication with the computing device is controlled to provide a representation of the list of items associated with the calendar event data.

In the method, when a touch device detects a first touch signal, a menu controlling module is configured to start a menu controlling program to display a touch menu on a display device. When the first touch signal exists, sequentially selecting one of the items every first predetermined time. Moreover, selecting the function corresponding to a currently selected item when the first touch signal is interrupted. Finally, executing a currently selected function according to a second touch signal detected by the touch device.

Abstract: According to one embodiment an order taking apparatus includes a storage processing section, a display processing section, an enlargement processing section. The storage processing section configured to read information on the order for the menu item the input of which has been accepted by the order taking section, and to store the information in a predetermined order information storage region. The display processing section configured to read an image of the menu item the input of which has been accepted by the order taking section, and to allow a display device to display the image. The enlargement processing section configured such that when the menu item image is enlarged, the enlargement processing section rewrites the information on the order for the menu item which is of the same type as that of the current menu item but has a serving size larger than that of the current menu item.

Abstract: The current status of a list of tasks to be performed is dynamically displayed. The tasks may be performed by a user (e.g., data entered by the user, words spoken by the user, actions taken by the user, and so forth) or alternatively by a computer (e.g., the steps it follows in carrying out a programmed task). At least a portion of the list is displayed at any given time along with an indication of which task is the next task to be performed. As the tasks are completed, the current status of the progression through the items on the list is dynamically updated so as to readily inform the user (or someone else) as to what the current task is that needs to be performed, as well as what tasks have already been performed and/or what tasks remain to be performed.

Abstract: A method for providing visual cues to a user of a graphical user interface (GUI) for a computer system is disclosed. The visual cues indicate a relationship with an icon having text and/or image elements. In some embodiments, the method receives a color for labeling an icon that has a text-element and an image-element. The method applies the color to a background-region of the text-element of the icon without applying the color to the image-element. In some embodiments, the method does not affect the font of the text. In some embodiments, the method receives a selection of an icon. The icon has a background-region that has a first color. The method changes the first color of the background-region to a second color but retains the first color in a section of the background-region. In some of these embodiments, the method outlines the section of the background-region with a third color.

Abstract: An apparatus and method, which make it possible to easily set and execute various animation representations according to the state of a cursor, are provided. In association with each of a state of a cursor or of a component located where the cursor is set, different read image data are set in association with a graphics representation program file. Such different animation displays according to the state of the cursor as animation for a focused state where the cursor is set on a component, image data for when the cursor moves between components and the like become possible, and in GUI-equipped devices, a GUI with which users will not lose sight of the cursor and which is highly visually effective can be realized.

Abstract: An improved approach to highlighting a graphical object in a graphical user interface is disclosed. A body of a highlighted graphical object may, upon selection or highlighting, be changed to a transparent color, and a graphical outline, or “halo,” is added surrounding the original graphical object's body. The halo may be in the same color as the graphical object originally was, preserving any meaning attributed to the color of the graphical object and simplifying the user's ability to identify the selected object(s), as well as the ability to select the highlighted object for further processing. The highlighted graphical object may also be displayed with a bounding box to further identify the selected object(s). A moving version of the highlighted graphical object may be drawn during a moving process, in which the moving version has an appearance distinct from the original object.

Abstract: Methods for realizing advanced graphical user interface (GUI) in panel subunit. The present invention provides, in one embodiment, a button GUI element descriptor that defines a bitmap to be displayed when a button is out of focus and another bitmap to be displayed when the button is in focus. In another embodiment, the present invention provides a table GUI element descriptor that defines a table-like on screen display to be displayed on the contoller device. Another embodiment of the present invention provides a panel GUI element descriptor that includes a focused identifier attribute indicating a pre-determined element of the on-screen display as default focus. In this way, the target device would be able to control the default focus of the controller device when displaying an on-screen display.

The interface may further comprise a third platform representing the second layer of data organization within the first level of data organization and having a front surface and a top surface, the second platform and the third platform stacked on the first platform, and the second platform and the third platform scaled relative to the first platform such that the top surfaces of the second and the third platforms are smaller than the top surface of the first platform.

Abstract: An exemplary method includes maintaining data representative of a plurality of media content instances, displaying within a graphical user interface a plurality of graphical objects positioned along a viewing axis, each of the graphical objects representing a metadata value within a metadata category associated with the media content instances, shifting a graphical object included within the plurality of graphical objects into a center focus portion of the viewing axis in response to a user input command, and transforming the graphical object from a book end depiction into a cover art depiction when the graphical object enters the center focus portion. Corresponding methods and systems are also disclosed.

Abstract: A user interface provides a representation of content items that are selected based on a duration of time of a selection action of the content items if the duration of time of the selection action exceeds a given time interval. An association between a plurality of content items may be used to determine the growth of the selection indication including at least one of a rate of growth, a shape of growth, and the time interval prior to growth of the selection indication. A system may sense at least one of a proximity of a content items to a selected content item and an association between content items, and grows the selection indication at a rate and/or shape and/or other representation that is determined by the proximity and/or association.

Abstract: The use of visual cues associated with rendered visual items to cue a user on whether a rendered visual item has interactive capability and/or what type of interaction is possible with that visual item. The visual items may be rendered in a data driven way with each constructed using a corresponding parameterized view component. The parameter(s) are populated by data, perhaps by model variables obtained from an analytical model. The parameters then drive logic associated with the view component to thereby construct a visual item which may then be rendered. The rendering engine then renders the visual item with the visual cue. The user may then interact with the rendered visual item. Such interaction might cause some external action to occur, might change which visual items are displayed, and/or might change a value of the input parameters of one or more view components used to generate displayed visual items.

Abstract: An enhanced telephone emulation computer system including a minidialer program for controlling a computer to add telephony functions which can be invoked from whatever active program is currently controlling the computer. The minidialer program controls the computer to alter its processing depending upon the context existing at the time when a mouse click or hot key combination event is detected indicating the user wishes to invoke a telephony function. The minidialer program determines whether the user has highlighted any text or numbers in the active window of the application currently controlling the computer and whether the highlighted material is a name or a phone number, and if a name, whether the name is stored with a phone number in a phone book or file maintained on the computer. Processing and telephony menu options displayed as available also depend upon whether the user is or is not on the phone at the time the mouse click or hot key event occurs.

Abstract: A graphical user interface made up of icons representing individual files and collectively forming the shape of a “v” is described along with methods of using and creating the graphical user interface. The v-shaped interface is useful to display detailed information about many of the items in a list and facilitates manipulation of list order and selection of the active file in the list. The interface further permits the use of a representative icon associated with the list as a whole. Manipulation of the representative icon can cause modification or replacement of the entire playlist represented by the icon.

Abstract: Provided are a method and an apparatus for displaying search data. The method includes generating an identifier representing selected data if one of data displayed on a screen is selected, displaying the identifier on the screen and maintaining the identifier on the screen even when another data is being displayed, and displaying data corresponding to selected identifier if the identifier maintained on the screen is selected.

Abstract: An accessibility method is performed by an electronic device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface. The method includes: mapping at least a first portion of the display to the touch-sensitive surface; concurrently displaying a plurality of user interface containers on the display; detecting a user interface container selection event that selects a first user interface container in the plurality of user interface containers; and, in response to detecting the user interface container selection event: ceasing to map the first portion of the display to the touch-sensitive surface, and proportionally mapping the first user interface container to be substantially coextensive with the touch-sensitive surface.

The method comprises receiving instructions via the graphical user interface to relate a first mathematical object with a second mathematical object; updating the second mathematical object using data of the first mathematical object; linking the first mathematical object to the second mathematical object; and creating a visual link between the first mathematical object and the second mathematical object.

Abstract: A method for operating at least one control in a graphical user interface that provides a user to output state of mind about current contents by selecting at least one of a multiple areas associated thereof. A change in texture is observed when a pointer is over at least one of the areas of the at least one control. The change in texture of the at least one control preferably includes a grid like cross-hatching, a diagonal hatching, a color change or any other visual indicators. A click on at least one of the areas of the control simultaneously operates the control and outputs the user's state of mind corresponding to the particular area. The method can be applicable to each of a navigational control, video transport control, web browser control, hyperlink, software application and computer operating system.

The control unit (13) comprises at least a controller for controlling operation of the graphical user interface (100), a memory for storing program code in order to implement application feature software to be executed by the control unit, and an interface for receiving and/or transmitting wireless communication between the remote control device and the display screen (11).

Abstract: A method and system for configuring a selection status with respect to one or more contact items in an e-mail address book is disclosed. The e-mail address book related to an e-mail editor includes the contact items from which a list of intended e-mail recipients can be selected for e-mailing via a number of actions (e.g., “To:”, “Cc:”, or “Bcc:”). A status indicator can be utilized to indicate actions applicable to each of the contact items in a current work flow. The status indicator can be displayed alongside each contact item from the address book that permits a user to easily identify the selection status related to the contact items at a glance when scrolling through the list of intended recipients.

Abstract: In the method of interacting with a display system on board a aircraft: an operator sends to the system a selection of at least two symbols visible on a screen of a cockpit of the aircraft; and the system generates a list of elements associated with the selected symbols. Preferably at least one source system receives a notification from the display system indicating that at least one symbol visible on the screen and associated with the source system has been selected; and the source system generates a list including at least one element associated with the symbol.

Abstract: Various embodiments related to the correction of typographical errors on touch displays are disclosed. One disclosed embodiment includes a portable computing device comprising a touch-sensitive display device, a logic subsystem, and memory comprising instructions executable by the logic subsystem to perform a method of correcting typographical errors displayed on the touch-sensitive display device. The instructions are executable to identify a typographical error within text displayed on the display, and upon identifying the typographical error, highlight on the display the typographical error.

Abstract: Disclosed are a portable terminal with a music performance function and a method for playing a variety of musical instruments. The method includes: selecting a particular piece of music and a particular musical instrument from the portable terminal, according to a user request, and executing a music performance mode corresponding to the selected musical instrument; detecting a first input signal input to a screen according to the selected musical instrument in the musical performance mode; determining, if the first input signal is detected, whether a second input signal for executing audio source data is detected; analyzing the first and second input signals, in association with each other; and outputting audio source data of the selected music, according to the analyzed result, via audio signals.

Abstract: A touch interface for a hand held device having a selection tool is described herein. The selection tool allows a large group of selectable items to be displayed in a relatively small space on a touchscreen display, and appears as an element of a graphical user interface on the touchscreen display. The selection tool comprises a plurality of overlapping bands that are disposed at an angle relative to one another and that rotate about a common central area. Each band includes a subset of selectable items in a larger group of selectable items. A user makes a selection selecting a band containing a desired item as a top-most band and selecting the desired item. The selected item may comprise, for example, an icon representing an application, a file or folder, a menu item, or a character from a large character set.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for navigation within a set of audiovisual documents in an audiovisual apparatus. At least one document is recorded previously in the apparatus. Next, the apparatus receives a command of association of at least one identifier with the recorded document. Finally, the apparatus receives navigation commands for navigating around the list of recorded documents, the identifier or identifiers associated with the document is automatically reproduced when this document is selected. The invention also relates to an apparatus able to execute a software navigation module for using the process. According to improvements, the identifier is a video sequence, an audio sequence, a text or a still image.

One embodiment of the computer-implemented method comprises: defining a plurality of textboxes, each of the textboxes comprising text and/or variable codes, coordinate data defining textbox positioning, and a style class defining font, font size and/or font color; defining a layout comprising specific textboxes from the plurality of textboxes; defining a global template comprising one or more of the layouts; extracting metadata from a file or other content provided by a stationery designer; and generating a product template using information contained in the global template and the metadata extracted from the file.

Abstract: A method of allowing a user to discontinuously change selection focus on an electronic device is disclosed. A plurality of graphical items is presented on a display screen. Upon operation of a selection device in a predetermined manner, selection focus is immediately changed to a default lower priority graphical item without a need to scroll to the default item. Disclosed too is an electronic device having a graphical user interface containing one or more interactive lists, and each list containing one or more graphical items. An electronic device has a selection device and a computer program product for changing selection focus. The computer program product contains a readable medium and an action detection module operative to discontinuously change selection focus.

Abstract: A method and system for applying user-specified finishing options to a printed output document. A finishing window is displayed showing a document mimic in the finishing window, and displaying finishing tool selection regions in the finishing window which enable the user to activate selective finishing tools. Finishing location identifiers are displayed on portions of the document mimic, each displayed location identifier being associated with the currently activated finishing tool, and each displayed location identifier identifying a region of the printed output document by its location on the document mimic. WYSIWYG representations of user-selected finishing tool operations are performed in the portion of the document mimic identified by the selected finishing location identifier. The WYSIWYG operations include, but are not limited to, stapling, hole-punching, V-folding, C-folding, Z-folding, and binding. Also included are WYSIWYG operations for undoing each of the aforementioned operations.

Abstract: A method for operating menu items using an electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a camera, a visual perception unit, a displaying unit, and a display screen. The displaying unit displays menu items on the display screen. The camera captures a visual image of the user's eyes when a user views one of the menu items. The visual perception unit obtains a visual focus position from the visual image by analyzing pixel values of the visual image, calculates a visual offset for calibrating visual focus position, and calibrates the visual focus position according to the calculated visual offset when the user views the menu item on the display screen.

Abstract: A disclosed digital media device at user premises receives a media signal from a media source for presentation via a television display. The exemplary device also supports bi-directional communications with an application service provider device via user premises data communications network. The provider device, which is independent from the media source, offers an application service from a wide area network via the digital media device and user premises network. The digital media device may form a composite signal from the media signal and application service information, for example, for a composite audio and/or video signal for television type presentation to the user. The digital media device may receive a selection signal based on the presentation, for transmission to the application service provider device or to the media source. The media device also offers a GUI presenting a moveable arrangement of icons for selectively accessing application services.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a device displays content on a touch screen display and detects input by finger gestures. In response to the finger gestures, the device selects content, visually distinguishes the selected content, and/or updates the selected content based on detected input. In some embodiments, the device displays a command display area that includes one or more command icons; detects activation of a command icon in the command display area; and, in response to detecting activation of the command icon in the command display area, performs a corresponding action with respect to the selected content. Exemplary actions include cutting, copying, and pasting content.
