Abstract: A method of determining at least one dimension of an extrusion die includes determining a plurality of reference points on a contour of an opening of the extrusion die. Sizes of a plurality of figures with same shapes corresponding to the plurality of reference points are determined. Each of the plurality of figures is inscribed in the contour of the opening and has at least one axis of symmetry. Each of the plurality of figures contacts each of the plurality of reference points and at least one another point on the contour. The at least one dimension of the extrusion die is determined based on the sizes of the plurality of figures.

Abstract: A method for producing an anisotropic magnet with high energy product through extrusion and, more specifically, by placing a particle charge of a composition from the which magnet is to be produced in a noncircular container, heating the container and particle charge and extruding the container and particle charge through a noncircular extrusion die in such a manner that one of the cross-sectional axes or dimension of the container and particle charge is held substantially constant during the extrusion to compact the particle charge to substantially full density by mechanical deformation produced during the extrusion to achieve a magnet with anisotropic magnetic properties along the axes or dimension thereof and, more specifically, a high energy product along the transverse of the smallest cross-sectional dimension of the extruded magnet.

Abstract: We disclose ultrafine-grained titanium. A coarse-grained titanium billet is subjected to multiple extrusions through a preheated equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) die, with billet rotation between subsequent extrusions. The resulting billet is cold processed by cold rolling and/or cold extrusion, with optional annealing. The resulting ultrafine-grained titanium has greatly improved mechanical properties and is used to make medical implants.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a continuous shear deformation device. In order to occur shear deformation at the position at which a material is inserted into a molding path from a rotary guide apparatus for the purpose of solving the problem that the amount of shear deformation of a material is non-uniform and insufficient due to the gap between the curved portion of the molding path and the lower parts of the material, there is provided a continuous shear deformation device, characterized in that a curved portion is constructed by collaboration between the rotary guide apparatus and the molding path. In addition, there are provided additional constructions for effectively performing shear deformation by a small power by reducing the friction at the molding path excepting the curved portion. The present invention thusly constructed can be utilized for continuously and effectively mass-produce sheared materials.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a shear deformation device. To improve the productivity by solving the problem that the amount of shear deformation of a material is not uniform and sufficient due to the gap between the curved portion of the molding path and the lower parts of the material and omitting any additional process for removing irregularity and surface products on the surface of the material, there is provided a shear deformation device capable of scalping, characterized in that a scalping guide path which allows the surface of the material to be separated from the other portions of the material as the material is scalped at a predetermined thickness when passing through the curved portion during shear deformation is formed in the curved portion in communication with the molding path. In addition, there are provided additional constructions for effectively performing shear deformation by a small power by reducing the friction at the molding path excepting the curved portion.

Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of a shaped bar consisting of an at least partially metallic material, a preform is shaped to form the shaped bar in the partially solid/partially liquid state and the shaped bar in the partially solid/partially liquid state is guided through a chilled mould for setting. An optionally heatable preform chamber is provided for receiving the preform, an optionally heatable forming chamber is connected to the preform chamber for shaping the preform to form the shaped bar, and a chilled mold is connected to the forming chamber for the setting of the shaped bar. A die can optionally be arranged immediately downstream of the mould for the final shaping process and the device.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an aluminum-based composite plate is disclosed. The method comprises the step of producing an aluminum-based composite billet. The billet production step includes reducing, by magnesium nitride, an oxide-based ceramic as a porous molded body. The reduced oxide-based ceramic has improved wettability. An aluminum alloy is then caused to infiltrate into porous sections of the reduced oxide-based ceramic to thereby provide the aluminum-based composite billet. The billet is extrusion molded into a flat plate form by using an extrusion press. Plates of desired shapes are punched from the molded flat plate by using a press.

Abstract: A frame-like traveling beam carrying a hollow press ram of a metal extrusion press and in which a traverse carrying a piercing mandrel is guided, has the side walls of that traveling beam progressively reduced toward a midpoint from each end along the guide path of the traverse. Surprisingly that reduces the spread of the side walls under load and limits the degree to which the mandrel may be guided eccentrically.

Abstract: A device for forming flashing, and a method for forming the same for adaptation to freeze boards. The present invention is a device for forming flashing comprising a plate with at least one groove cut through the plate. The groove in the plate has at least one angle changing the groove from a first direction to a second direction on the plate. The grooves may be organized in V-shape or Z-shape arrangements. Flashing is inserted into the groove, bending the sheet metal to take on the form of a similar shape to the groove. The flashing is then pulled through the device, creating a uniform bend along the length.
