  • Patent number: 9832491
Abstract: A method comprises obtaining information characterizing multiple content streams comprising respective portions of content received from respective ones of a plurality of sources, obtaining positional information for the sources wherein the positional information indicates for each of the sources its current position in a set of possible positions relative to other ones of the sources, generating an additional content stream comprising selected portions of particular ones of the multiple content streams based at least in part on the positional information and a mapping between the content streams and the sources, and presenting the additional content stream to a user. The additional content stream may be generated so as to provide the user with a dynamic vantage point within a live event by switching between the selected portions of the particular ones of the multiple content streams, possibly as a function of input received from user equipment operated by the user.

  • Patent number: 9818290
Abstract: A security system and method verifies the merits of an alert signal generated by an alarm device. The alarm device is integrated into a premise of a user, and emits an alert signal when an irregular event occurs. The security system and method verifies the merit of the alert signal, so as to differentiate between a false alarm and a true alarm. To achieve the verification, upon detecting and recognizing an alert signal, a remote alarm center attempts to communicate with the end-user through simultaneous channels of communication. The simultaneous use of a plurality of channels of communication enables the remote alarm center to expedite communications with the end-user regarding the triggered alert signal. Upon receiving communication about the triggered alert signal, the end-user may indicate to the remote alarm center, through transmission of a code and within a predetermined duration, the merits of the triggered alert signal.

  • Patent number: 9519864
Abstract: Embodiments include processing a data structure representing a dependency matrix having columns representing respective first components and rows representing respective second components. Aspects include assigning each cell of the matrix a value indicative of the level of dependency or indicative of an unknown dependency of a pair of first and second components forming the cell and assigning each component of the first and second components an affiliation vector indicative of the strength of affiliation of the component to N predefined initial clusters of cells of the matrix. Aspects also include determining a probability model using the affiliations vectors parameters and estimating the parameters of the probability model for a plurality of different numbers of clusters starting from the initial number N of clusters. Aspects further include computing a score for the parameters of the probability model estimated and selecting the parameters of the probability model with the highest computed score.

  • Patent number: 9479677
Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a protocol permits communications between platforms and image devices. This allows, for example, the platform to specify particular types of information that the platform may want, the format of information the platform may prefer, and other information that may reduce the amount of processing in the platform. For example, conventionally, in gesture recognition software, the platform receives an ongoing stream of video to be parsed, searched and processed in order to identify gestures. This may consume communications bandwidth between platforms and imaging devices, particularly in cases where wireless communications or other bandwidth limited communications may be involved.

  • Patent number: 9396652
Abstract: A connection node provides a high bandwidth connection on demand to mobile units that are in need of increased bandwidth for data transfers. In this manner, the connection node can supplement the bandwidth available to a mobile unit so that large volumes of data can be communicated to and from the mobile unit. A movable antenna automatically focuses its reception area on the mobile unit's location, after which, a high bandwidth connection can be established for high-speed data transfer. The high bandwidth connection is maintained, such as by tracking the mobile unit with the antenna, even if the mobile unit is moving.

  • Patent number: 9277230
Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for performing display mode based video encoding to reduce power consumption in a source device of a Wireless Display (WD) system. More specifically, the techniques enable the source device to select an encoding process based on whether the video data to be encoded is in a static display mode or a dynamic display mode. For example, when the video data is in the static display mode, the source device selects a static encoding process that reduces an amount of video data processing and compression, which in turn reduces power consumption at the source device. When the video data is in the dynamic mode, the source device may select a conventional dynamic encoding process. The source device encodes the video data according to the selected encoding process, and transmits the encoded video data to one or more sink devices in the WD system for display.
