  • Patent number: 6851345
Abstract: A fence is described for attachment to a cutting table or in combination with a cutting table. The fence includes pair of elongated guide rails with brackets configured to be mounted to the cutting table. An endless chain is provided on each guide rail, trained about sprockets rotatably mounted on the guide rail. Each chain includes a working flight that extends along the associated guide rail. Each chain further includes sprocket tooth receiving spaces. A shaft interconnects, one of the sprockets on one guide rail with one of the sprockets on the remaining guide rail such that rotation of the shaft will result in all the sprockets rotating in unison, causing uniform and equal movement of the chain. An elongated cutting guide is provided with aligning lugs that are releasably received within selected tooth receiving spaces of the chains in such a manner that the cutting guide may be selectively engaged with the chains and lifted from the chains.

  • Patent number: 6755106
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for die-cutting a stack of sheet-like materials, particularly labels, whereby the stack is pressed into the die-cutter blade by a relative movement of a punching ram and a hollow cylindrical die-cutter blade. For such a device, it is proposed that the stack (8) to be punched be positioned between a limiting element (88) and a moveable slide-in unit 21 is positioned against a stop (89), and the limiting element (88) and the stop (89) are moveable. This type of construction of the die-cutting device ensures an optimal positioning of the stack in area of the pinching ram, independent of varying stack sizes.

  • Patent number: 6578461
Abstract: The combination of a rip fence and a workpiece pusher are provided for a table saw or shaper. A preferred workpiece pusher moves along a track having a central portion aligned with the feed direction and having two end portions skewed with respect to the feed direction so that the workpiece pusher retracts into the rip fence at both limits of its travel. This allows a sawyer to retract the workpiece pusher on the infeed side of a table saw and begin a ripping operation in which he or she manually pushes the workpiece into the saw blade until the trailing end of the workpiece is close enough to the saw blade that the workpiece pusher can be moved out of the fence to engage the trailing end of the stock. The pusher can then be used to push the workpiece the rest of the way past the blade. This apparatus also allows a woodworker to operate a table-mounted cutting tool without using a workpiece pusher of the invention that is installed on that table.

The second fence portion is made up of a fixed section mounted to the table surface and an adjustable section mounted to the fixed portion and transversely adjustable toward and away from the saw blade, enabling the workpiece to be supported adjacent the saw blade when the saw blade is in the vertical orientation, yet allowing the adjustable fence portion to move outward to provide sufficient clearance for the saw blade at the maximum tilt orientation. A scale is provided on the fixed and adjustable sections of the second fence portion providing an indication of maximum inboard position for various tilt angles.

Abstract: A rip fence used with a table saw, where the table saw has an upper cutting surface with a front edge surface and a rear edge surface. The rip fence includes a main casing having a front clamping mechanism at the front end and a rear clamping mechanism at the rear end. The front clamping mechanisms has a frame with a handle pivotally connected thereto. A link is connected at one end to the handle and at another end to a cam. An activation plate is also connected the cam and to a clamping plate. The handle rotates between a locked position and a released position thereby moving the link to rotate the cam against the activation plate. The activation plate causes the clamping plate to laterally move between a locked position and a released position relative the front edge surface. The handle also causes the rear clamping mechanism to move between a locked and a released position relative the rear edge surface.

Abstract: An adjustable rip fence for a machine tool has a fence which is movable with respect to the cutting tool due to a rack and pinion. The rail assembly supporting the fence include a pair of stationary rails which are secure to the machine tool. A movable rail telescopically engages each stationary rail and the movement of each rail is accomplished by the rotation of a pair of pinion gears each of which engages a respective rack on the movable rails. The simultaneous rotation of the pinion gears is the result of both pinion gears being secured to a common pinion shaft which is rotatably secured to the machine tool. The telescoping nature of the rails allows for adjustment of the fence beyond the working surface of the machine tool.

Abstract: An apparatus for sequentially and automatically cutting a piece of dimension lumber at a number of predetermined angles to produce a building component, such as a rafter or truss web or chord, with composite or compound angles, is disclosed. The apparatus includes infeed and outfeed tables tiltable about a longitudinal axis and equipped with fences along which a workpiece moves longitudinally via moving devices. Clamps hold the workpiece at different positions relative to a cutting station during a cutting operation. A cutter, which for example includes a circular saw blade, is mounted for a positioning movement about a vertical axis at the cutting station, as well as for vertical movement to cut a workpiece at a predetermined composite or compound angle.

  • Patent number: 6170372
Abstract: A dual spring hold down for use with wood working tools, such as table saws, routers and shapers comprises a bracket mounted on the wood working table behind the tool and a hold down bar pivotably attached to the bracket with the hold down bar surrounding the wood working tool. A threaded rod is threaded into and extends upward from an extension arm of the bracket and though a slot in a hold down bar cross plate. A first coil spring surrounds the threaded rod immediately above the cross plate and a second, stronger coil spring surrounds the threaded rod above the first coil spring while a cylindrical sleeve surrounds the first coil spring. The hold down bar is free to drop down to act as a safety barrier when no wood panel is present. Then, initial lifting of the hold down bar by a wood panel is initially against the relatively light downward bias of the first coil spring until the sleeve is lifted to a “hold down height” at a point sufficient to compress the first coil spring within the sleeve.
