Scoring Patents (Class 83/879)
  • Patent number: 7472636
Abstract: A method for loading and cutting glass sheets on a cutting table, that includes the steps of: providing, with a scoring head, scoring lines on a first sheet of glass positioned on the cutting table; extracting, during the scoring step, sucker-fitted pick-up arms from below the first sheet being worked; tilting the pick-up arms so as to place the suckers on a second sheet to be picked up, which is arranged substantially vertically adjacent the scoring table; picking up the second sheet, starting to tilt it toward the cutting table during the scoring of the first sheet; moving the scored first sheet away from the cutting table; positioning the scoring head beyond a sheet supporting region, on an opposite side with respect to a pick-up region; and positioning the second sheet on the cutting table.

  • Patent number: 7367255
Abstract: A device and method are for separating at least one optical fiber. A swivelled element and an asymmetric anvil are used so that a section of the fiber is contacted only in two positions that are substantially insignificant for the tensile strength of a spliced fiber. In one position, the glass fiber core of the section of the fiber is protected from damages by a fiber sheathing. In the other position that is contiguous to the position of separation, mechanical damages are of minor importance since they are at least partially repaired by the heat produced during splicing.

  • Publication number: 20080072722
Abstract: In a vibrating microtome (1), a knife (6) is caused to vibrate during a sectioning operation in a direction parallel to a section plane and substantially parallel to the knife's edge, during which a transverse offset can occur as a consequence of a potentially present inclination of the cutting edge with respect to the section plane. A measuring device (3) for measuring the transverse offset comprises a light barrier (9) into which the cutting edge is placeable so as to partially cover the light of the light barrier. The vibrating microtome (1) generates, from the motion of the knife, a control application signal (pklo, pkhi) that describes the time course of the vibration of the knife (6), and the electronic measurement system of the measuring device (3) measures the coverage of the light barrier as a consequence of the vibration of the knife as an oscillating signal (tpm), and determines the transverse offset from the signal values at points in time that are defined by the control application signal.

  • Patent number: 7302761
Abstract: An automatically programmable tilting mechanism for holding a scribe tool at varying angles using an aerostatic bearing. The air bearing secures the scribe tool about its longitudinal shank and generally allows for free axial movement while the tool holding structure prevents rotation of the scribe tool, thus providing extremely fine compliance and force application of the scribe tool point against the substrate. During a scribing process, the tilting mechanism regularly adjusts the angle of the scribe tool relative to the substrate so that a fresh cutting edge is always being employed in the scribing process.

The commodity is impelled using a thruster toward a scoring structure for scoring the peel to a predetermined depth into two sectors. Peel grippers hold the peel between the scores and release the peeled commodity, such that the peel is retained on the gripping means. The thruster is positioned and adapted to force the commodity along a path to engage the cutting and peel-gripping elements, the thruster bottom surface changeable from a first, generally concave orientation for conforming to a shape of the commodity to a second, generally convex orientation for releasing the commodity from the peel.

Abstract: There is provided a half-cutting device which makes it possible to attain the energy saving, downsizing of the construction of a tape printing apparatus using the device, and reliable cutting with a beautiful cut, and the tape printing apparatus incorporating the device. A half-cutting mechanism carries out half-cutting on a tape material introduced between the same and a tape-receiving member in a direction of the tape material. A half cutter of the half-cutting mechanism has a cutter blade formed by an angular blade, and performs a cutting operation on the tape material by moving in a direction of the width of the tape material. A cutter moving mechanism causes the half cutter to cyclically move through a cutting wait position, a cutting start position, a cutting completed position, a withdrawn position, and then to the cutting wait position.

Abstract: A V-cutter for use in forming V-shaped grooves (3) on a light guide panel (1) of the backlight unit for a liquid crystal display (LCD) is disclosed. The V-cutter may include a Z-axis lift piece (7) and a W-axis lift piece (8), each of which has a pin kit (10a, 10b) with a plurality of pins (9a, 9b) attached at the bottom thereof. The pins (9a, 9b) are preferably equal in number and spacing to the V-shaped grooves (3) to be formed. The lift pieces (7, 8) may be vertically actuated by a Z-axis controller (5) and a W-axis controller (6). The light guide panel (1) is preferably fixtured to a table (11). The lift pieces (7, 8) are configured to move with respect to the table (11) so that, through successive X-axis and Y-axis operations, the V-shaped grooves can be formed in perpendicular directions with only two reciprocating motions. As a result, the manufacturing cost of the light guide panels (1) is reduced.
