  • Patent number: 6470782
Abstract: A scribe device comprises a body (10). A holder (20) is supported by the body (10) such that the holder (20) can slightly slide in a direction of a slide axis (Lb) which intersects a surface of a workpiece (100). Retaining portions (15, 21) spaced apart in a direction of the slide axis (Lb) are formed on the body (10) and the holder (20), respectively. A vibratory actuator (40) is sandwiched between the retainer portion of the body and the retainer portion of the holder. The holder (20) holds an abutment member (30). The holder is biased by a biasing member (23) such that said retaining portion of the holder is pressed against the vibratory actuator. The vibratory actuator renders the vibrations in the direction of the slide axis to the holder. The abutment member transmits the vibrations from the holder to the workpiece. That is, the abutment member (30) is subjected to a static force and a vibration energy and pressed against the workpiece (100).

Abstract: A method of forming a scribe line on a work surface is carried out by a scribing apparatus comprising a scribe body including an abutment member, such as cutter provided with an penetrator, having at least first and second ridgelines and a sharp tip end portion and a vibration generating member for periodically applying vibrations to the abutment member. A vibration is applied to the abutment member with the tip end portion thereof abutting against the work surface, and the scribe body is relatively moved along the work surface to thereby form a scribe line on the work surface. In this scribing method, a first angle constituted by the first ridgeline of the abutment member and the work surface and a second angle constituted by the second ridgeline thereof and the work surface are made different from each other and the first and second ridgelines are opposed in the moving direction of the scribe body.

Then the cutting bridge speed is synchronized for each piece or section to be cutaway and the cutting away of each piece or section takes place after the synchronization. To attain a very high precision cutting the spacing of the front cut edge formed when the previous piece or section is cut away from the cutting device is measured by means of an image-taking device (7) prior to cutting away of the next piece or section. Abstract: The invention relates to foam structures with enhanced physical properties which can be used in the areas of packaging, athletics, water sports, and construction. In general, the structures are laminated polymer foams that include a core of a low density foam and one or more skins of relatively high density foam covering the core. The skins provide improved physical properties to the foam structures by improving the flexural strength, resistance to bending, and resulting damage from bending in the laminated foam structure while modestly increasing the weight of the laminated structure, for example. Uses of the foam structures include, but are not limited to, packaging materials, gym mats, body boards, or eaves fillers. The skin can act as a hinge to fold a die cut piece into a collapsible packaging system.

  • Patent number: 5946999
Abstract: This invention is a clear plastic board used specifically for scoring a straight line when place on top of glass or stained glass. The invention allows the artisan to comfortably move the board so as to score by seeing his pattern through the clear plastic and selecting exactly the color of the stained glass that he wishes to use in his artwork. A slot in the middle of the board allows a more expensive type of cutter as well as the less expensive glass cutter to score and glide easily from bottom to top or top to bottom (as some artisans prefer) and effectively score a straight line on the glass. The slot also prevents slipping to the side as would be true when using a straight edge or T square and allows for a stronger and more rigid scoring. The scoring board also has topside and underside rubber strips to prevent slippage, as would be true when using a straight edge, allowing for the effective scoring of horizontal and vertical lines and to diminish wear and tear to the cutter's carbide wheel.

The slots are generally equally spaced from each other around the circumference of the side wall. The cutter member has an axial length and a curved inner circumferential surface with a diameter at least slightly greater than that of the outer surface of the housing side wall.

  • Patent number: 5746106
Abstract: A device and method for superficially incising a sausage-like meat product includes a plurality of rotatable cutting elements which are arranged to define a chute therebetween. Each cutting element includes a cylinder and has a circular blade which projects radially from the cylinder. The centers of the respective blades, also located in the cylinder, define a base plane and the blades are all similarly tilted to rotate in tilt planes which are angled from the base plane. In the operation of the device, all cutting elements are simultaneously rotated and a meat product is inserted into the chute. Rotation of the cutting elements simultaneously causes the cylinder to draw the meat product through the chute and causes the blades on the cylinder to superficially cut a helical shaped incision into the meat product. The depth of the cuts are established by the projection of the blades, and the pitch of the helical incisions, can be controlled by the tilting of the cutting elements.

  • Patent number: 5740717
Abstract: In contrast to typical machines though, the present invention discloses a device which allows the plate to "float" within the mechanism, so that any inaccuracies in dimensional tolerances between plate and knife are absorbed in a damping of the plate or bed of the mechanism. In this situation, the depth of the cut of the score line can be very reliably controlled, which results in the repeatable manufacturing of a child resistant, yet senior effective package. There is used a spring pre-load for this plate, which is such that cutting takes place yet, as the tool closes, the plate and package come in "metal to metal" contact, assuring "near perfect" cuts of the blister package. Extremely high tolerances are maintained, assuring packages which pass all levels and types of QA testing.

  • Patent number: 5561899
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding an insulated electrical wire, or the like, axially with respect to a transverse plane in which a single pair of blade cutting edges are supported for movement toward and away from the axis of the wire. Each blade has a continuous cutting edge forming the periphery of an opening through the blade. The wire is advanced a predetermined distance through the aligned blade openings by a pair of conveyors on opposite sides of the plane of the blade edges. The blades are moved in opposite directions to sever a premeasured length of wire from the supply by first portions of each blade edge. The severed wire portion is then moved by the conveyors to a second axial position and the blades are again moved to cause second portions of the cutting edges to pass partially through the layer of insulation, stopping before contacting the conductor. Axial movement of the wire then causes the engaged blades to sever a slug of insulation and strip it partially or fully from the conductor.
