The range calculation includes detecting a contour of the object from the image data, forming a template from the image data based on the contour; and calculating a range to the object using pixel resolution and dimension statistics of the object. A three-dimensional velocity of the object is determined by calculating a radial component and an angular component of the velocity. The radial velocity component is calculated by determining the range of the object in two or more image frames, determining a time differential between the two or more image frames, and calculating the radial velocity as a function of the range of the object in the two or more image frames and the time differential between the two or more image frames. Abstract: An inertial isolation and alignment system for a sensitive component or apparatus affixed to a mortar barrel comprising a barrel clamp assembly which supports two parallel bearing rail followers and pointing device cage assembly which supports two parallel linear bearing rails. The bearing rail followers and linear bearing rails form a simple sliding contact linear motion bearing system. The bearing rail followers on the barrel clamp assembly allow the cage assembly to slide freely along the length of the linear bearing rails. During firing, the travel vector is decoupled from the cage assembly by the bearing rail followers as they move with the barrel along the linear bearing rails leaving the cage assembly suspended in inertial space. The cage assembly then accelerates under the force of gravity over the distance of the displaced travel of the bearing rail followers back to its rest position landing on dampers, each on a linear bearing rail.

Abstract: A large-caliber gun integrated into a military ship and mounted with the turret and the weapons system of an armored howitzer. Disposed below the turret body portion is a shell magazine in which is installed a shell transporter that grasps the shells and supplies them to a shell-raising mechanism, by means of which the shells are conveyed from the shell magazine into the turret body portion. A shell transfer arm, pivotably mounted on the trunnion of the weapon, carries at one end a charger that in the raised position of the shell transfer arm is aligned with the gun bore axis of the weapon, and in the lowered position is aligned with the direction of movement of the shell-raising mechanism. The shells are introduced from the shell-raising mechanism directly into the charger and after pivoting-up of the shell transferring arm are supplied to the weapon.

Abstract: A weapon stabilization platform assembly employing the action of the devices' telescoping tubular horizontal width adjustment attaching to the vertical roll over posts of a recreational off road 4×4, off road UTV, or other utility vehicle or frame vehicle by the nut and bolt compression of two bracket couplings or other attaching appliances fixed at the opposing end of each of the telescoping tubes. In a preferred embodiment, the device comprises a plurality of telescoping tubes being an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve that is sized to permit it to move horizontally in telescopic relationship to the outer sleeve, both sleeves being harbored within an anti-vibration foam cushion, being then sheathed within a protective fabric sleeve.

Abstract: A support structure comprises image formers, weapons and sighting systems. An image former system is completely practicable by individuals of short stature or limited mobility, especially those in wheelchairs. Ordinary telescope optics and extremely rigid and simplified mechanical structural system allow the imagers incident optical axis to move through three-dimensional space while the eyepiece image moves in one plane. Elevational rotation of the imager about the eyepiece allows the observer to view 360 degrees in elevation without eye movement. A main tube tangential to the objective and parallel to the incident optical axis concentrically receives optical supports which retain the optics. The optical elements may be installed, removed, replaced and cleaned without realignment of the optics. The optical support design receives reflective or refractive optics of varying focal lengths; the objective support accommodates cameras without focal adapters.

Abstract: A precision tactical mount (12) includes a horizontal controller (30) and a vertical controller (34) for determining azimuth angles and elevation angles for a sight line of the precision tactical mount (12). The horizontal controller (30) and the vertical controller (34) have friction blocks (102, 114, 196) which engage mating friction surfaces with selectable forces for providing specific resistance against azimuth and elevation angular movement, without requiring separate mechanisms for locking the tactical mount (12) in selected positions. The friction blocks (102, 114 and 196) are preferably formed of softer materials than the mating friction surfaces to conform to the shape of the mating friction surfaces with increased normal forces, providing varying surface areas. The vertical controller (34) includes a course threaded screw member (142) mounted at an angle to a centerline (6) of the precision tactical mount (12) to provide fine control adjustment for elevation.
