    Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement for controlling a hydraulically driven motor (2), forming part of a hydraulic system in which hydraulic fluid under pressure forms a main flow through a main duct (1) in which the motor is connected. The motor is adapted to drive a load with varying loading, and one or more valves (6, 7) are adapted for controlling the hydraulic fluid flow through the motor on the one hand during operation and on the other hand for starting and stopping of the motor. One of the valves consists of a flow control valve (7) which is connected in the main duct (1) downstream of the motor (2) and is adapted for on the one hand starting/stopping of the motor and on the other hand constant flow control of the hydraulic fluid flow through the motor.

    Abstract: A tentacle-like manipulator has a resiliently longitudinally extensible, laterally bendable elongate member, e.g. an inflatable bellows or a helical compression spring-like member, with an end effector mounting on one end thereof. Tendon-like tension members extend along said elongate member and are spaced apart from one another around said elongate member, one end of each of said tension members being to said elongate member at said one end thereof. Guides spaced apart along and secured to said elongate member and slidably engage said tension members for guiding said tension members relative to said elongate member. Further tension members extend along only a portion of the length of the elongate member and are secured to the elongate member at a location intermediate the ends of the elongate member. Winches are used to wind and unwind the tension members to correspondingly control the length and the bending of the elongate member.

    Abstract: A monoport airgun for seismic exploration has a single discharge port extending continuously for 360.degree. around its longitudinal axis. This airgun has a first housing providing a firing chamber containing pressurized gaseous fluid (gas) and a second housing providing an operating chamber. The first and second housings are positioned in alignment along the longitudinal axis. They are spaced apart along this axis for defining the discharge port between them extending continuously around the axis. The two housings of the monoport airgun are interconnected solely by a guide member concentric with the axis. A shuttle encircling the guide member is movable therealong between closed and open positions. In closed position, the shuttle closes the firing chamber for retaining pressurized gas therein. In open position, the shuttle opens the firing chamber to the discharge port for allowing pressurized gas to blast from the firing chamber through the discharge port.

The device includes a hydraulic pump for delivering a pressurized fluid to be fed into the pressure chamber of the cylinder, and an automatic drain valve for inhibiting the pressurized fluid from being discharged from the pressure chamber while a difference by which a delivery pressure of the pump is higher than a pressure in the pressure chamber exceeds a predetermined value. When the difference becomes smaller than the predetermined value, the automatic drain valve is operated to allow the pressurized fluid to be discharged from the pressure chamber. Thus, the automatic drain valve automatically drains the pressure chamber when the pump is turned off.
