  • Patent number: 7882819
Abstract: A tensioner for applying tension to a balancer drive chain is mounted in a balancer housing which accommodates balancer shafts. Oil is supplied from a reservoir chamber to the tensioner. An oil jet member for lubricating the balancer drive chain is mounted at a position downstream in an oil flow direction from the reservoir chamber. Therefore, while enabling foreign matter contained in the oil to be discharged from the oil jet member without being accumulated within the tensioner, a predetermined pressure can be maintained in the reservoir chamber by a resistance to the flow of oil passing through the oil jet member. Also, a constriction is provided between the reservoir chamber and the oil jet member. Therefore, it is difficult for the oil to flow out of the reservoir chamber even after stoppage of an engine, thereby supplying the oil to the tensioner upon the next start of the engine without delay. Thus, it is possible to prevent the foreign matter from entering the tensioner for the balancer drive chain.

Abstract: A lubricant is applied to swage contact surfaces in a disk drive of the type including a suspension arm connected to an actuator arm by a swaging process. A preferred thin film lubricant may be applied to the contact surfaces by immersion and draining, immersion and raising the part out of the solution, localized spraying, or various deposition processes. Application of the lubricant reduces chipping during de-swaging, particularly with nickel plated metal components. Application of the lubricant has also shown to improve gram load uniformity, reduce adverse distortion to the actuator assembly and reduces torque out retention values. Improved gram load uniformity enhances overall disk drive functioning, reduced distortion preserves intended attitude and flatness of the actions for assembly and reduced torque out retention values improves reworkability of the disk drive.

Abstract: A liquid-lubricated roll has an annular roller element rotatably supported by anti-friction bearings on an elongated axle which is longitudinally curved. Liquid lubricant for the bearings is supplied to an annular passageway between the roller element and the axle. During rotation of the roller, the liquid forms into a thin annular layer on its inner surface, which is agitated by projections on the axle to produce a lubricating mist.Barrier rings placed adjacent to the bearings are adapted to permit liquid to flow along the passageway while the roll is rotating, but to block flow of liquid above a selected level when the roll is stationary. This maintains a more uniform longitudinal distribution of liquid within the roll during periods of disuse, so that none of the bearings will be flooded when rotation starts, and a saving in power consumption and bearing life will therefore be realized.
