  • Patent number: 8015683
Abstract: A pulley removal system used to remove a pulley attached to an internal combustion engine includes a plurality of puller jaw members adapted to be detachably and radially connected to a hub member. Each jaw member comprises an elongated body having a top surface, an underside surface, and first and second opposed ends. The first end is adapted to be attached to the hub member, and the second end has hooked tip free to grasp a flange of a pulley. The hooked tip has a terminal edge with predetermined dimensions that enable it to fit within different sized recesses in the flange of the different pulleys and an underside arcuate surface extending from the terminal edge and merging with the underside surface to form a bite that receives the flange when the terminal end fits within the recess in the flange.

Abstract: A device and method for securely removing a sewer cap from a sewer line that may be under pressure is disclosed. The device comprises a tube adapted to tightly fit onto the end tee of the sewer line that contains the cap and a piston containing a handle configured to fit and for movement inside the tube. A discharge port on the tube is adapted to discharge fluids into a container. The piston has a recess adapted to tightly fit over the square protrusion typically present on sewer line caps. To remove the sewer cap, the recess in the piston is threaded onto the protrusion on sewer line cap. The tube is then threaded over the piston and tightened over the end tee of the sewer line. Turning the handle to loosen the handle allows any discharge to safely drain through the discharge port.

Abstract: A steering gear assembly with a pinion shaft, rack, housing and rack bearing. A biasing assembly biases the rack bearing against the rack and into engagement with the pinion. The biasing assembly includes a gross adjustment member secured to the housing, a bearing assembly with a bearing member coupled with the rack bearing and a first adjustment member. A first biasing member is coupled with the bearing member and first adjustment member which are relatively moveable to thereby define a compliance zone to allow for dimensional variations in the meshing of the rack and pinion. An adjustment biasing assembly is operably disposed between the gross adjustment member and the bearing assembly. The adjustment biasing assembly is disposed entirely within the housing, includes a second biasing member, and urges the first adjustment member toward the rack bearing in continuously-variable axial movements while preventing movement away from the rack bearing.

Abstract: A modular implantable segmented intramedullary structure adapted to be received in the intramedullary canal of a bone configurable between a relatively flexible, bent configuration for implantation or extraction and a relatively rigid, straightened configuration for bone treatment. The segmented intramedullary structure comprises a plurality of interconnected segments with a first interface and a complementarily-shaped second interface such that the first interface of a segment cooperatively engages the second interface of an adjacent segment. The segments define a channel for a tensioning member to lock the structure in a compressed configuration.

Abstract: A reactor cartridge includes a plurality of spaced-apart monoliths, formed along a tube or other mandrel. Each monolith is formed of a pair of flat and corrugated metal strips, spirally wound around the tube. These strips could be made of solid or screen material. The corrugations are skewed, such that the monolith imparts a swirl to gases flowing through it. The corrugations of the strips in adjacent monoliths are oriented differently, so that successive monoliths impart different swirls to the gases, so as to promote mixing of gases and better heat transfer from the exterior to the interior of the cartridge. An insertion and removal tool simplifies the procedure for stacking such cartridges in a long pipe, or for removing cartridges from the pipe. The all-metal construction facilitates heat transfer through the entire reactor, and avoids the problems associated with packed ceramic beds.

Abstract: The bushing replacement kit includes components for reaming out a bushing passage in a mechanical structure, and for installing a new bushing in the passage. The reamer portion of the kit includes a reamer guide, which is secured precisely and immovably to the seal sleeve of the passage, the reamer having a pilot shaft that fits precisely within the guide. The guide is held in place by a guide retaining plate, which is clamped to the mechanical structure over the guide. When the reaming operation has been completed, the ream is removed and a threaded bushing installation shaft is passed through the guide and bushing passage. A new bushing is placed at the back of the passage, with a bushing installer placed in back of the bushing. A threaded fastener is installed on the installation shaft and tightened to force the new bushing into its passage.

Abstract: A hose clamp kit having a coil of perforated band material marked at regular intervals to enable detaching of a desired length of band, and a housing assembly with a worm drive near one end of a housing plate which has near the opposite end one or more protrusions and a detent. One end of the length of band is held in place by the detent, while the perforations engage or snap onto the protrusions. The other end encircles a hose, engaging the worm-gear housing for tightening. A protrusion may be rounded, may be formed by pushing up the plate material residing between two slots in the plate, and/or may be sized for an interference fit into a perforation. The detent may be a raised tab, bent horizontal to the plate and in the direction of the protrusions. A hose clamp and a method of clamping are also described.
