Bolts Patents (Class 292/2)
  • Patent number: 5603534
Abstract: A lock mechanism is provided which may actuate both a deadbolt and flush bolts in response to a single lock movement. The mechanism includes a dual element bolt throw and flush bolt actuator, which locks in place in the extended position if the end of the bolt is pressed inwardly. The throw includes a transfer mechanism which transposes the horizontal movement of the bolt to vertical movement at the flush bolts. The flush bolts also include a mechanism to limit retraction thereof if the extending end of the flush bolt is exposed to inward directed force. The entire lock mechanism may be actuated by a standard cylindrical lockset having actuating jaws extending therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5551264
Abstract: A door lock includes a deadbolt assembly and a lock housing assembly. The deadbolt assembly has a bolt member which includes a metal inner sleeve, a metal outer sleeve fitted over the inner sleeve and made of a material which is different from that of the metal inner sleeve and which has anti-corrosion properties, and a security bar disposed axially in the inner sleeve. The lock housing assembly includes an exterior housing section with a cylindrical chamber that receives rotatably an exterior lock cylinder unit therein. The lock cylinder unit has a key-operated rotary plug with a rearwardly projecting spindle that is connected operably to the deadbolt assembly. An interior sleeve member is formed as a cylindrical wall with a front end which is secured to the rear side of the lock cylinder unit and a rear end which is formed with diametrically opposite notches. The deadbolt assembly extends through the sleeve member via the notches.

  • Patent number: 5531487
Abstract: A lock includes a first housing attached to a door and having an extendible latch bolt and further includes a second housing, or striker, attached to an adjacent doorjamb and including an inner slot for receiving the latch bolt. The latch bolt includes a generally flat inner surface and a convex outer, leading surface in facing relation to the adjacent doorjamb. Disposed on a distal end portion of the latch bolt's inner flat surface is a first projection, or tang, while disposed on an outer edge of the striker's inner slot is a second projection, or lip. With a given amount of "play", or free movement, of the door relative to the doorjamb, the door may be opened by urging the door outward and actuating a release knob in the first body for withdrawing the latch bolt from the striker and into the first housing, with clearance provided between the latch bolt's tang and the striker's inner lip.

  • Patent number: 5492208
Abstract: In a door assembly composed of a door frame, a door having a hinge side and a hinge supporting the door on the frame for pivotal movement of the door between an open position and a closed position, the hinge side of the door facing, and being adjacent to, a portion of the frame when the door is in the closed position, the door is provided with a recess in the hinge side; and the assembly is further provided with at least one projecting element secured to the frame portion to project into the recess when the door is in the closed position and having a mass of thermally intumescent material which is expandable for securing the projecting element to the door upon being heated above a predetermined temperature.

  • Patent number: 5492377
Abstract: A window lock includes a lock base fixed to a first window sash and a lock catch fixed to a second window sash. A lock casing is mounted for linear reciprocation on the lock base. A pivotal locking member is mounted on the lock base so as to selectively engage the lock catch. A linkage mechanism interconnects the lock casing with the pivotal locking member and transforms the linear reciprocation of the lock casing into pivotal reciprocal movements of the locking member. A safety mechanism is provided to selectively prevent accidental or unauthorized linear reciprocation of the lock casing. The lock casing substantially surrounds the lock base, the linkage mechanism, and the safety mechanism, thereby providing the window lock with an aesthetically pleasing appearance suitable for modern decors.

  • Patent number: 5249831
Abstract: A lock having a counterweight connected through a lever to a spring-actuated lock bolt on a safe to balance out any inertial forces tending to move the bolt out of its locking position when the safe is struck a heavy blow. A latch forming a part of the lock latches the bolt in its locking position when an attempt is made to dislodge or destroy the lock case or a part thereof. A selectively usable bolt part is effective to change the lock from a deadbolt type to a slam-bolt type.

  • Patent number: 4643468
Abstract: An arrangement for latching and unlatching the hood of a motorized vehicle is disclosed herein. This arrangement utilizes a fluid inflatable component carried by a base member of the vehicle and a second component defining an externally accessable cavity carried by the hood. The hood may be closed while the inflatable component is in a deflated state. As it does so, the deflated component is caused to enter the cavity of the component carried by the hood. Thereafter, the inflatable component is inflated sufficient to prevent its removal from the cavity, thereby latching the hood in its closed position.

  • Patent number: 3948550
Abstract: A latch for use with a door knob lock for contact with a corresponding opening formed in a door jamb consisting of a bolt having a beveled surface along its closing edge and including a slot defined by a first side wall substantially perpendicular to the axis of the bolt and formed adjacent to the edge of the door, a second spaced-apart wall formed within the bolt and within the door jamb recess and a base surface interconnecting the two walls together. The intersection between the second wall and the base surface preferably defines a notch having an acute angle. The base surface is preferably inclined with respect to the axis of the bolt so that its intersection with the first wall forms an acute angle. The slot formed in the bolt is capable of catching any flat instrument which is inserted between the door and the door jamb to prevent unauthorized entry.
