Abstract: A method may include determining a count of excess telephone numbers (TNs) for removal from a block of TNs associated with a customer. The method may further include determining an order of priority for removing the excess TNs from the block of TNs and marking the excess TNs for removal from the block of TNs in the determined order of priority.

Abstract: A telephony system is presented that enables one user to monitor another user's extension and perform functions on calls destined for the other user's extension. The system includes a server with a telephony management software (TMS) unit, a telephony application programming interface (TAPI) unit, and an application unit. The application unit includes a control module, association module, presentation module, park module, monitoring device interface module, and storage interface module. A server sends information to a monitoring device regarding the status of a monitored extension and calls offering on that extension. A server also enables a user to navigate through multiple calls offering and park a selected call.

Abstract: A method includes defining multiple recipient candidates for a media session request; identifying a geographic location of a communication device that initiates the media session request; identifying a geographic location of each of the recipient candidates at the time of the media session request; determining the optimal recipient candidate for the media session request based on the geographic location of the communication device that initiates the media session request and the geographic location of each of the recipient candidates; and automatically routing the media session request over a network to the determined optimal recipient candidate.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method to provide protection against a solicitation for information during a telephone call is described. A telephone call connection between a target device and a source device is monitored. A determination is made when sensitive information is provided via the target device. Characteristics of the source device are compared with characteristics stored in a first database. A warning message is generated based on the results of the comparison.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for determining a telecommunications address of a location. A telephone call from a caller located at the location is received. Location data associated with the received telephone call is then obtained. The telecommunications address can then be determined from the location data.

Abstract: A system and method for managing a telecommunications network and which may let a user monitor and control the user's network telephone services is disclosed. The system may include a CEO Dashboard, a Migration Module, and a Trouble Ticket Wizard. Additionally, the system may include backend processes that periodically run, ensuring that everything is being done to retrieve, and store, the user's available resources on the network. The system may be provided by an integrated platform that is available through online web access and that includes functions such as provisioning, billing, line management, and account management.

Abstract: A method for network maintenance and supervision of an on-board controlled audio agent, the method constituted of: providing a plurality of audio portions, each of the provided audio portions being selected responsive to user descriptive data associated with a call initiator; providing a reimbursement rule associated with each of the audio portions; selecting, for each call instance, a particular one of the plurality of audio portions responsive to the determined reimbursement rules; and outputting the particular one of the plurality of audio portions at each call instance initiation such that at least a portion of the particular audio portion is heard by the call initiator prior to call connection.

Abstract: A method of managing telephone calls is disclosed and includes receiving a telephone call from a caller, prompting the caller to provide a reason for the telephone call, and transferring the telephone call to an automated enterprise check order status system when check order status is indicated as the reason for the telephone call. Additionally, the method includes prompting the caller for an order identifier. The order identifier can be a telephone number, an account number, or an order number. The method also includes receiving the order identifier. The order identifier can be received via a series of touch tones and the order identifier is associated with a previously order telephone service.

Abstract: Methods and systems implemented in an information handling system are provided for managing call event data between agents and callers for calls completed through a carrier. Functionality provided by certain embodiments includes, but is not limited to, one or more of the following features: the ability to automatically update customer information databases according to call event data in real-time, dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) activity of the caller and/or agent, do-not-call (DNC) verification and updating, agent identification, lead source and content identification, the recording of calls, the automatic translation of voice communications to textual transcripts, key word detection, communication of customer demographic data to an agent before or during phone calls, audio file management, agent call tracking, and other functions and advantages as will be apparent with the benefit of this disclosure. Methods and systems are also included for data associated with managing broadcast campaigns.

Abstract: Customer communications can be controlled in accordance with customized rules. An initial menu includes options to modify an existing rule or create a new rule for controlling customer communications. An initial selection criteria menu includes options to indicate whether the new customized rule will be built using a preexisting template or starting from initial blank rule criteria. A list of preexisting templates for creating new customized rules can be provided, and input to populate a selected template can be accepted. Initial blank rule criteria for creating new customized rules can also be provided, including initial criteria and rule conditions for selected initial criteria. Communications are processed in accordance with the stored new customized rule.

Abstract: A user who wants to follow a call made by or to a specific entity (typically a person) sends a request to be notified when the entity makes or receives a call. The call is an audio or video call. The call can be based on a specific subject that the user has identified. When the entity makes or receives a call, a call processor detects that the call has been made. In response to the call, a notification is sent to the user. If the user has defined a subject, the system determines if the call is on the subject. If the call is on the subject, the notification is sent. If the call is not on the subject, the notification is not sent.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of remotely changing operating characteristics of a communications device selected for signaling an incoming message or call to a user. To allow signaling an urgent incoming message or call to a user even if the device to be called is in a mute state, the method comprises the steps of: transmitting control data from a calling device (MSI) to a device (MS2) to called; changing a group of operating characteristics of the device (MS2) to be called in accordance with the transmitted control data; and signaling an incoming message or call in accordance with the operating characteristics set up in the previous step.

Abstract: A system, method and program product for delivering to an invitee of a teleconference an electronic file attached to or referenced by a meeting notice for the teleconference. The teleconference hosted by a server computer, the invitee has a telephone to call-in to the teleconference via a telephone connection, and an invitee computer downloads the electronic file from the server computer via a first network in response to selection by the invitee of a representation of the electronic file from the meeting notice. The server computer receives a notification that a predetermined combination of keys has been pressed by the invitee on the telephone. In response, the server computer determines an e-mail address or instant message address for the invitee. The server computer attaches and sends the electronic file to an e-mail or instant message with the attached electronic file to the e-mail address or instant message address.

Abstract: A remote call control method is provided, the method comprising exchanging a session initiation protocol message, wherein the message indicates a call control request is associated with the message; identifying a resource associated with the call control request, wherein the resource includes one or more parameters of the call control request; and performing a call control operation according to the parameters of the call control request. A communication platform and endpoint are provided for executing a call control operation according to a call control request. The communication platform and endpoint comprise a processor component operable to exchange a session initiation protocol message, identify a resource associated with the call control request, and execute a call control operation according to the parameters of the call control request. The message indicates a call control request is associated with the message, and the resource includes parameters associated with the call control request.

Abstract: A telephone call management system is provided including a local system and a central site server using improved blocked or restricted call means including network traffic management. Decisions to allow or block a call to called parties are accomplished by using flagged indicators associated with certain called telephone numbers, with subsequent verification of a central database. The system includes management software capable of implementing widespread or local changes to the system and is further capable of modifying or setting any number of user account parameters.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for performing contact management services. Systems and methods may maintain one or more address books. Contacts may be added to the address book from one or more sources. Systems and method may receive a command to add a party to the address book. Contact-related information associated with the party may obtained and added to the address book. A user may be notified of an incoming call placed by a calling party and destined to a communication device associated with the user. Systems and methods may receive a command, responsive to the notification, to add the calling party to an address book associated with the user. An address book may be updated to reflect changes in the contact-related information.

Abstract: A method of setting up a video telephone call between a first video telephone terminal and a second video telephone terminal on a data network includes the steps of: establishing a telephone call over a telephone network between the first and second terminals; exchanging between the first and second terminals during the telephone call availability signals to seek availability to hold a video telephone call; if the availability is confirmed, releasing the telephone call; establishing respective telephone calls between each of the first and second terminals and a corresponding access server of the data network, for achieving connection of the first and second terminals to the data network; establishing a signalling exchange between the first and second terminals through a service center of the data network to achieve the set up of the video telephone call; and establishing a peer-to-peer video telephone call between the first and second terminals over the data network.

These methods and systems include receiving first user line management information regarding handling of calls to the communications line from one or more contacts in a first address book, the first address book associated with the first user. Further, these methods and systems include receiving second user line management information regarding handling of calls to the communications line from one or more contacts in a second address book, the second address book associated with the second user.

Abstract: A method for providing a click-to-call service includes receiving multimedia content, and acquiring a recipient's phone number from the multimedia content; generating a bridge call request message including the acquired recipient's phone number; and sending the bridge call request message to a telephony server device that forwards the bridge call request message to a bridge call provision device that provides a call connection so that the call connection is performed between a recipient's phone device corresponding to the recipient's phone number and a sender's phone device.

Abstract: A method of authenticating an inbound caller in telephony applications. The method establishes a predetermined caller identification telephone number associated with a predetermined inbound caller identity from which inbound calls are permitted, retrieves a caller identification telephone number from an inbound caller, and then authenticates the inbound caller responsive to the caller identification telephone number matching the predetermined caller identification telephone number. A corresponding computer system and computer program product are also provided.

Abstract: Methods of avoiding or minimizing cost of stateful connections between application servers (ASs) and S-CSCF nodes in an IMS network with multiple domains. S-CSCF service logic is provided and connected to a co-located AS. The IMS includes a network operator administration domain and an MVNO service domain, and the S-CSCF logic and AS are maintained in the same domain, e.g., the MVNO or network operator domain.

Abstract: An Internet Protocol (IP) phone transmits on a network, an IP packet comprising a dynamically-assigned IP address. A computer associated with the network uses the dynamically-assigned IP address in the packet to identify a specific site to which the IP phone belongs and/or a specific local area network (LAN) to which the IP phone is connected. Then, data to be used to provide telephony service to the phone is recorded in a memory. In some embodiments, the computer associates the IP phone with a dialing plan unique to the specific site, wherein the dialing plan includes an area code to be used by the IP phone.

Abstract: In a click-to-call (C2C) communication environment, a web client of a computing terminal is configured to initiate a C2C call when a user selects a call tag provided in a web page being presented to the user. The call is intended to be established between a remote endpoint associated with the call tag and one of either the computing terminal or another terminal associated with the user. If the C2C call is directed to an automated system and placed in a queue or on hold, the present invention allows supplemental content intended for the user to be delivered to the web client from which the C2C call was initiated. The web client may present the supplemental content to the user.

Abstract: A telephone fraud prevention system is provided. A fraud application server is in communication with a fraud database and a switch that determines which calls are sent to the fraud application server. A policy function may be integrated with existing fraud detection and correlation systems. When a call is originated and authentication fails, whether that's through a PIN, voice recognition, etc., the fraud application server sends a message indicating that this customer has failed to authenticate. After a number of authentication failures, evidence of high-risk calling is determined. Instead of reactively dealing with the fraud, the risk has been captured at the fraud application server and the switch blocks potential damage from that call and from that user.

Abstract: A method and system for providing directory assistance to erroneous calls. The method and system includes an intercept system that intercepts erroneous calls and automatically routes them to a directory assistance service. The directory assistance service provides a least one advertisement, directory assistance information and derived information including caller demographics information.

Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes communicating initial digits associated with an original request for a call and receiving a message indicating an incomplete address for the original request. The method also includes responding to the message by appending additional digits to the original request to generate a new request. The additional digits are buffered before receiving the message indicating the incomplete address associated with the original request. In other embodiments, the original request is a session initiation protocol (SIP) INVITE message that includes a uniform resource identifier (URI), which reflects an address for reaching a destination user. The initial digits can be partially matched against a dial plan in order to trigger the message associated with the original request. The additional digits are configured to satisfy the message and to connect the call. The message associated with the original request can be a session initiation protocol (SIP) 484 message.

Abstract: A technique for managing simultaneous incoming and outgoing calls between the same far-end called terminal and far-end calling terminal and/or same user associated with a far-end called terminal and user associated with the far-end calling terminal includes an easy call abandon facility on a near-end terminal configured to compare information associated with an outgoing call to information associated with an incoming call. The easy call abandon facility is configured to initiate an audible or visible indicator when the terminal and/or user of the far-end called party is the same as that of the far-end calling party. In response to an easy call abandon indication received from a near-end terminal user, the easy call abandon facility disconnects the call from the near-end and connects the call received from the far-end terminal.

Abstract: A method and system for providing directory assistance to erroneous calls. The method and system includes an intercept system that intercepts erroneous calls and automatically routes them to a directory assistance service. The directory assistance service provides a least one advertisement, directory assistance information and a variety of other information and services to the callers based on a highest expected revenue value of the advertisement or directory assistance services provided.

Abstract: A method is described for call treatment based on user association with one or more user groups. The method includes receiving a phone call from a call source that is directed to a call recipient, identifying a user group associated with the call recipient, and determining a number of received indications assigned to the user group. The received indications are assigned to the user group by users associated with the user group, and the received indications reflect a desire by the users for a special treatment of future calls from the call source. The method also includes distinguishing treatment of the phone call from the call source based on the number of received indications.

Abstract: A networking system and method for assisting a user. The system includes a call center with a plurality of representatives. The user establishes communication with one of the representatives and communicates a problem to the representative. The representative enters the problem into a database including a plurality of affiliates and affiliate information. The database identifies an assistance category and prioritizes a list of affiliates as a function of the affiliate information, the assistance category and the user's information. The representative and the user then select one of the affiliates, and the representative sends the user's information to the selected affiliate. After the referral, the representative follows up with the user to ensure that the service provided by the affiliate was satisfactory.

Abstract: A method for controlled display on a telephone, the method constituted of: downloading a display portion from a first network to the telephone; detecting a call instance; displaying on the telephone the downloaded display portion responsive to the detected call instance; in the event the data communication module is in communication with the first network, requesting, via the data communication module, a new display portion from the first network; and in the event the data communication module is not in communication with the first network, creating a time stamp and storing the time stamp on a memory of the telephone.

Abstract: Systems and method for processing orders for telecommunications services are disclosed. Generally a telecommunications transaction set of an electronic data interchange standard is received, the telecommunications transaction set corresponding to a telecommunications product or service for a customer. An order for the telecommunications product or service is then generated based on processing of the telecommunications transaction set.

Abstract: In the method for establishing communication to a remote terminal from the mobile terminal operating in dual mode, the terminal considers a contact corresponding to the remote terminal. The contact has a string of characters including an identification field containing an identifier of the remote terminal and a description field containing at least one character corresponding to a category to which the identifier contained within the identification field belongs. The terminal analyzes the string of characters. The terminal considers the value of the description field. A rule for establishing communication corresponding to the value is determined. The value of the identification field is considered. A request to establish communication in accordance with the rule is sent to the remote terminal.

Abstract: A solution for initiating a telephonic connection is provided. A calling user can provide data identifying a receiving device and corresponding to a call message. In response to requesting initiation of the telephonic connection, the length of the call message can be determined, and a transmission solution for the call message can be selected based on the length. When the length is sufficiently short, the call message can be included in caller ID information for the telephonic connection. When the length is longer, the call message can be transmitted as a data message and initiation of the telephonic connection can subsequently take place after a delay.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to initiate callback with confirmation. In one embodiment, a method includes: receiving a reference (e.g., a callback phone number) in a request for a connection to a destination; providing a code via the reference in response to the request; receiving a code to confirm the request; determining whether the received code matches the provided code; and initiating a connection via the reference for the connection to the destination if the received code matches the provided code.

Abstract: A network device may maintain an association of a telephone number with information identifying a rule and information identifying multimedia content, where the telephone number is associated with the network device, and where the rule specifies when the multimedia content is to be provided in connection with a telephone call to the telephone number. The network device may further receive a telephone call from a user device, where the telephone call is directed to the telephone number; detect, in connection with the telephone call, that the rule has been satisfied; and provide the multimedia content to the user device in response to detecting that the rule has been satisfied.

Abstract: A communication system comprising: a terminal having: an interface to a network, whereby the terminal can be connected to another party on a communication session; an output for outputting a communication stream received from another party on a communication session; and a source of play-out stream independent of a communication session; and a communication controller for managing a communication session terminated at the terminal, the communication controller being configured to: a) when it detects that the terminal has been placed on hold in a communication session, cause play-out stream from the source of play-out stream to be directed to the output; and b) when it detects that the terminal has been taken off hold in the communication session, cause communication stream from the communication session to be directed to the output.

Abstract: A method and system for providing computer-network related information about a second party. First, the second party receives a telephone number of a first party. The second party's customer premises equipment (CPE) or elements in a telephone network then use the telephone number to index a database, which contains combinations of telephone numbers and computer-network addresses. Once the first party's computer-network address is retrieved, computer network information present at the computer-network location specified by the computer-network address can be sent to and displayed on the second party's CPE. Also, the first party's telephone number can be sent to an application in the computer network, causing the first-party-customized information to be automatically displayed on the second party's CPE.

Abstract: A method for predicting to whom a phone call is being made, including identifying at least one state parameter for a mobile phone, and at least one weighting factor corresponding to the at least one state parameter for each identified state parameter, predicting one or more likely contacts that a user of the mobile phone is calling, given that the user is making a phone call, based on the identified state parameter, for each likely contact, assigning a combined weight to the likely contact based on the at least one weighting factor, ranking the likely contacts according to the combined weights, and facilitating making a phone call to one or more of the likely contacts with the highest rankings. A mobile phone is also described and claimed.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for blocking a specific network in a mobile communication terminal are provided. The method includes adding a first network to a blocked network list, when the first network is the only network available to provide service to a terminal, temporarily removing the first network from the blocked network list and temporarily receiving service from the first network. Thus, the user does not have to pay roaming fees in the unwanted network, suffer from undesired communication quality, or use unwanted additional functions.

Abstract: An automatic location update system receives location information regarding an identified communications device and stores an identification of the communications device, advantageously its telephone number, and the location information, advantageously X/Y coordinates. Weighting factors associated with the coordinates are also stored. The coordinates and weighting factors thus stored are compared and the coordinates that appear to be the most accurate are selected. The selected coordinates are delivered to a positioning server used to route special number calls.

Abstract: A computer telephony system allows a user to control different communications terminals at different times via a second system, external to the computer telephony system. The computer telephony system comprises a plurality of communications terminals each of which has an identifier. The computer telephony system further comprises means for generating a key and for recording internally a mapping linking the key and the identifier of a first communications terminal and means for changing the mapping, on a request by the user, so as to link the key with a second communications terminal. In operation, the key is provided to a second system, external to the computer telephony system and accessible by the user.

Abstract: A system includes a network entry point configured to receive and process internet protocol (IP) based connection requests originating from outside the communications network, and a telephone number mapping (ENUM) database configured to store a uniform resource identifier (URI) of the network entry point and to respond to a request for routing information for a subscriber terminal within the communications network received from a remote entity outside the communications network by providing a naming authority pointer resource (NAPTR) record including the URI of the network entry point to the remote entity in response to the request for routing information.

Abstract: A system for determining whether to request additional telephone number resources for a telecommunications carrier. The system includes a first database operated by a telecommunications carrier and configured to store data indicative of telephone number usage and ENUM usage of telephone numbers assigned to the telecommunications carrier. The system further includes a computing device in communication with a multiple databases via a network, the multiple databases may contain telephone number usage information associated with multiple telecommunications carriers. The computing device executes software to query the first and multiple databases to retrieve information associated with the telecommunications carrier (i) to determine current utilization of telephone numbers of a rate center and (ii) to determine months to exhaust of telephone numbers and automatically generate a report utilizing the current utilization and months to exhaust in response to determining the current utilization and months to exhaust.

Abstract: A communication device provides a face detection module and a face recognition module. The face detection module detects faces in a photo input by a user. The face recognition module searches the detected faces in a storage system of the communication device. If the detected faces do not exist in the storage system, the communication device prompts the user to edit communication information of the detected faces. If the user wants to dial a phone number, the communication device searches the storage system for the phone number of a selected face in a photo and dials the phone number. If a phone number is calling in, the communication device displays a photo corresponding to the phone number, and highlights a face corresponding to the phone number.

Abstract: An Internet protocol query for Internet protocol private branch exchanges including a private branch exchange that is connected to the public switched telephone network for receiving a call setup request, the private branch exchange not being enabled for receiving calling name delivery information from a telecommunications circuit; at least one of an incumbent local exchange carrier switch and a competitive local exchange carrier switch in communication with the private branch exchange, the at least one of the incumbent local exchange carrier switch and the competitive local exchange carrier switch having the telecommunications circuit not enabled for calling name delivery information retrieval; a network in communication with the private branch exchange; and a calling name delivery database in communication with the network for receiving calling name delivery queries from the private branch exchange based on the call setup request. Methods for routing calls based on ENUM information is also included.

Abstract: A conferencing system for an enterprise is disclosed. The conferencing system includes a management apparatus for managing conferencing resources in a premises. The management apparatus includes a communications link for communicating with a proximity announcing system, which indicates whether a portable communications device is near a conferencing device within the premises. The management apparatus can transmit a message to a proximate portable communication device indicating that a conferencing device is nearby. The proximity announcing system can include wireless transmitters and receivers associated with the premises and with portable communication devices used within the premises for tracking the location of the portable communication devices throughout the premises.

Abstract: A system and method for transferring calls. A voice communication is received. The voice communication is placed on hold in response to receiving user input. Multiple phones are rung simultaneously in response to receiving the user input. The voice communication is connected to one of the multiple phones in response to a user answering the voice communication on one of the multiple phones.
