Abstract: It has been found that the soldering properties of a wave soldering system can be quantitatively determined by measuring the wickability of the molten solder of the solder bath beyond the areas of direct immersion into the molten solder bath of a solder wave. The test is conducted by providing a test board having a pair of parallel strips of a solderable material such as copper. One of the parallel strips is formed in a continuous length. The other of the parallel strips is formed with discontinuity in the solderable material at regularly predetermined intervals along the length thereof. When conducting the test method of this invention, the test board is partially immersed into the solder wave in the same manner as a printed circuit board assembly, with the parallel strip being in alignment with the machine direction of the wave soldering apparatus. The test board is then removed from the solder wave. The point of maximum direct contact with the solder of the wave is determined from the discontinuous strip.

The split collet is movably received within the housing and is not formed by a section thereof.
Abstract: A method for obtaining a capacitive information disc record conductive molding composition having a desired melt viscosity wherein the conductive molding composition comprises carbon black and a plastic molding resin. The method comprises the steps of measuring the surface area of the carbon black particles; determining the relationship of the amount by weight of carbon black and the surface area of the carbon black particles to the melt viscosity of the conductive molding composition; and formulating the conductive molding composition by having carbon black present in an amount which is in accord with the relationship for the desired conductive molding composition melt viscosity.

Abstract: A method for obtaining a conductive molding composition for a capacitive information disc record having uniform and predetermined performance properties wherein the conductive molding composition comprises carbon black and a molding resin. The method comprises determining the melt viscosity of a conductive molding composition for a capacitive information disc record which has the desired performance properties, and preparing said conductive molding composition so that it has said melt viscosity.
Abstract: An integrated circuit overload protection device is used to protect a bipolar transistor used in the common emitter configuration. The protective device comprises a bipolar transistor of opposite type to the protected amplifying transistor. The protective transistor is connected with its base to the collector of the amplifying transistor and with its collector connected to the terminal of the power supply which is not connected to a terminal of the load resistor of the protected device. The emitter of the protective device is preferably connected to the base of the protected device through a protective resistor. Inputs to the protected transistor are provided at the interconnection of the emitter of the protected device with one terminal of the protective resistor.
Abstract: An n-p-.pi.-p.sup.+ Si avalanche photodiode wherein the number of acceptors introduced into a Si body to form the p-type conductivity region has been reduced and this region extends a distance greater than about 35 micrometers into the body from the surface and wherein the n-type conductivity region extends a distance into the body such that the p-n junction is less than about 10 micrometers from the surface of the body. The method of the invention comprises introducing a reduced number of acceptors into the surface of the body, diffusing the acceptors into the body a distance greater than about 35 micrometers and forming an n-type conductivity region such that the p-n junction is less than 10 micrometers from the surface of the device. APDs of the invention exhibit a k.sub.eff of about 0.006 which is a factor of greater than 2.5 less than that of typical prior art devices.
Abstract: An apparatus for injection molding an article includes a pair of mold members, at least one of which is movable toward and away from the other. Each mold member includes a base plate, a manifold plate and a cover plate. Each base plate has inner and outer surfaces with a mold cavity in its inner surface and an annular recess in its outer surface. A plurality of connected grooves is in the bottom of the recess to form a channel. The manifold plate is an annular plate which is seated in the recess in its respective base plate. The manifold plate has inlet and outlet passages which extend to separate ones of the grooves in the base plate. The cover plate extends across the outer surface of the base plate and the manifold plate to hold the manifold plate in the recess. One of the base plates has a hole therethrough from its outer surface to its mold cavity to allow the flow of molding material into the mold cavity.

A separate plastic spindle is mounted on each of the posts with each spindle having a plurality of spaced annular grooves in its outer surface. The recorded discs are adapted to be set in the grooves in the spindles to support the discs on the rack.
Abstract: A preform for use in making a video recorded disc in a body of plastic material having substantially flat top and bottom surfaces and a peripheral surface extending between the top and bottom surfaces. The peripheral surface includes a first portion intermediate the top and bottom surfaces and of a peripheral size greater than that of the top and bottom surfaces. Second and third portions extend from the first portion to the top and bottom surface, respectively. Each of the second and third portions has a peripheral dimension which decreases from that of the first portion to that of the top or bottom surface so that the surface of each of the second and third portions is angled away from the top and bottom surfaces, respectively. When the preform is engaged by the molds for making a disc the angled surfaces of the second and third portions serve to minimize if not eliminate the trapping of air and gasses along the surface of the record being formed which cause defects in the record surface.
