    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for driving piles onshore or offshore, including driving a tubular pile within a submersed tubular jacket leg of an offshore structure and field disassembly.The apparatus hammer includes a displaceable ram structure, mounted within a pressurized air-filled housing, which is reciprocated by a pressurized working liquid against a pile-engaging anvil structure, which is in dry contact with a pile inserted within one end of the pressurized housing. The ram structure compresses air within the housing near the end of its firing stroke to preload the anvil structure for better energy transfer to the pile. The ram structure also compresses the air within the housing near the end of its loading stroke to slow the ram structure and permit full charging of working liquid accumulators, which discharge during the firing stroke to maintain working liquid pressure and prevent cavitation.

    Abstract: A fuel injection system for internal combustion engines includes an airflow measuring member which actuates a fuel metering valve assembly. The pressure drop across this valve assembly may be changed by changing the restoring force on the movable control slide therein. The restoring force is provided by pressurized fluid, for example fuel, and the pressure of this fluid can be adjusted by an electro-magnetic pressure modulator, in turn controlled by an electronic controller responsive to engine conditions as sensed by transducers. A pressure limiting valve further influences the control fluid pressure.

    Abstract: A system for controlling the attitude of a cylindrical body moving in a fluid, including controlling the attitude of this body in roll, which is applicable to controlling the roll of projectiles, rockets and missiles.The system includes a finned rotary empennage concentric with the body, a torque-transmitting means connecting the body and the empennage, and an attitude detector means mounted integral with the body. The attitude detector means produces an electrical signal which is proportional to the divergence of the actual and desired attitude of the body. This signal is amplified and applied to the torque-converting means which changes the rotation of the empennage relative to the body, to thereby correct the attitude of the body by such relative rotation and the dynamic force exerted on the fins of the empennage by the fluid in which the body is moving.

    Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines has a simultaneously reciprocating and rotating pump piston which aspirates fuel from a fuel compartment and then delivers it under pressure to engine fuel lines. An electromagnetic valve can obturate the conduit between the fuel compartment and the pressure chamber of the pump, thereby shutting off fuel delivery. To permit manual override of this shut-off, the electromagnetic valve may be partially unscrewed from the pump housing, thereby lifting the valve closing member from its seat and permitting fuel flow. In another version, an externally accessible central valve bolt partially lifts the valve-closing member from its seat.

    Abstract: A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine performs cyclic modulations of an operational parameter of the engine, for example by periodic leaning out of the fuel-air mixture to some of the engine's cylinders. The resulting changes in angular acceleration of the crankshaft are sensed by an electro-inductive transducer and the elapsed time between successive pulses so generated is measured. Depending on whether the change in acceleration is positive or negative, the circuit generates an appropriate control signal which may be used to steer a final control element which moves the center of modulation, i.e., the operational point of the engine, toward an optimum value of, for example, the fuel-air ratio.

A pump supplies pressurized fluid medium through conduits in the piston to a long channel in the support bar, thus providing a fluid film on which the casing is supported.     Abstract: A fuel preparation system for an internal combustion engine employs an induction tube air flap which is shaped so as to be subject to aerodynamic lift forces when the air flow has caused a substantial displacement of the flap. In addition, the wall of the induction tube is made inwardly movable so that the net cross section available to the air flow may be reduced and a proportionately greater deflection rate obtained. The fuel quantity, which is related to the angular deflection is thus increased, causing a richer mixture. The air flap has internal channels which carry fuel from the pivotal shaft to the induction tube for injection into the air stream.
