    Abstract: What follows is a description of a method of fabricating a composite assembly. In particular, the composite assembly comprises an aerodynamic rotor blade assembly which is fabricated utilizing a single matched die mold. Before utilizing the single matched die mold, the aft fairing structure of the composite blade assembly is formed. This aft fairing structure is uniquely characterized in that it includes not only the typical elements of an aft fairing structure of the composite blade, but the spar heel as well. The aft fairing structure thusly formed is then placed into the single matched die mold with the spar, nose block, cap member and deicing blanket, or with various subassemblies thereof, and the various parts brought into engagement and secured to each other in the single matched die mold through the application of heat and pressure.

    Abstract: A simplified layup mandrel with no contour or twist is utilized by the method of this invention for forming the spar member of an aerodynamic rotor blade. A fiber glass tape is wrapped (laid-up) to a desired thickness onto the simplified mandrel to form a strap as the initial step. Because of the simple design of the mandrel, the laid-up strap when removed from the mandrel has a basic U-shaped configuration with straight extending legs having substantially parallel vertically oriented faces. This strap is then placed on a forming mandrel and contoured to the desired shape either by hand or by coining in a forming die. The contoured strap is then utilized in any of the various subassemblies or final assembly of the composite aerodynamic rotor blade.

    Abstract: A control circuit for a fuel injection system used with internal combustion engines, of the type in which fuel injection valve control pulses are generated whose duration depends on engine data, in particular engine rpm and air flow rate. To avoid misfires when the engine is run fast with a closed throttle, the fuel supply is shut off by suppression of the fuel control pulses. For this purpose, the control circuit generates a reference rpm value and a reference pulse train of predetermined pulse duration and compares the duration of the actual fuel injection control pulses with the predetermined duration and, at the same time, it compares the actual rpm with the reference rpm. If the actual pulse duration is less than the reference duration and if the actual rpm is greater than the reference rpm, the control circuit suppresses the fuel injection control pulses.

    Abstract: An externally ignited four cycle internal combustion engine equipped with an inlet valve and an outlet valve. In one embodiment a swirl (turbulence or vortex) chamber is provided within the cylinder head, the height of the swirl chamber being less than its maximum diameter. An outlet closable by the outlet valve is located in the upper portion of the swirl chamber. A channel-like recess, which creates a guide channel when the piston is in its top dead center position, terminates approximately tangentially in the swirl chamber. The channel-like recess may be formed in the cylinder head, in the top of the piston or partially in both of these members. In another embodiment, a reduced throat area is adapted to introduce the gases from the first inlet valve chamber to an oval secondary chamber adjacent to the outlet valve.

    Abstract: The mixture control system of an internal combustion engine which employs an exhaust gas oxygen sensor is provided with circuitry which subjects the output signal from the sensor to comparison with established threshold values to determine the operational readiness of the sensor. When the amplitude of the sensor signal is sufficiently high, indicating proper operational temperature of the sensor, the test signal is turned off and the monitoring is taken over by a circuit which looks for regular alternation of the sensor signal at a sufficiently rapid rate. When the sensor signal is found inadequate for any reason, the closed loop control system is disengaged and the mixture control is provided on the basis of an average sensor voltage supplied by the circuit.

    Abstract: A method for simultaneous qualitative and quantitative analysis of antigens r antigen-effective substances in a sample provides placing the sample in a carrier medium through which it migrates toward a plurality of physically separate carrier strips. The medium on each strip contains a quantity of a specific ingredient, for example an antibody, which is expected to undergo a specific immunoreaction with one of the constituents in the sample, thereby producing a visible precipitate. The dimensions of the final precipitate then permit a direct measurement of the identified substance. A known concentration of a calibrating substance may be added to the sample to provide for calibration precipitates in the various strips. The apparatus for practicing the method includes a base plate on which the neutral, antibody-free carrier medium as well as the various strips containing media with antibodies or other immunoreactive ingredients are located.

    Abstract: A container made from a foil or laminate material and provided with a cover which is sealed to a flange of the container by the application of heat. In order to facilitate removal of the cover, all or all but one of the corners of the container have cuts or kerfs extending from the outer edge up to the welded bead. To open the container, the tab defined by each kerf is grasped and pulled upwardly so that the adjacent strip of cover and flange is removed by tearing along one straight side of the polygonal container. The procedure is repeated at successive sides until all or all but one of the edge strips have been removed.
