  • Patent number: 3999385
Abstract: A hydrodynamic coupling for driving pumps, fans, and the like at variable shaft speeds includes coaxial primary and secondary impellers. The space defined within these impellers contains variable quantities of working fluid for transmitting the shaft torque from one impeller to the other. One of the impellers is equipped with a co-rotating casing, which encloses the other impeller and may serve to force working fluid into the working chamber. The fluid exits from the working chamber through an aperture in the higher-lying impeller and returns to a storage chamber from which a conduit transports it to the casing. A control valve in the conduit permits external flow control.

  • Patent number: 3999527
Abstract: A fuel injection system includes a metering valve assembly whose control slide is actuated by the air flow through the induction tube and by an opposite restoring force provided by fluid pressure. The magnitude of this restoring force may be altered by the action of a pressure control valve. The back pressure downstream of this control valve and downstream of a main fuel system control valve is regulated by a back pressure regulating valve. This valve is responsive to signals related to the atmospheric pressure or to operating parameters of the engine, e.g., the induction manifold pressure and it regulates the back pressure of the fuel to maintain a desired fuel-air ratio.

  • Patent number: 3999362
Abstract: A thread breakage repair apparatus for use in open-end spinning machines includes a fixture which holds the thread and trims its broken end and it also includes a movable assembly, on which a drawoff tube is mounted which is connected to a source of suction. This drawoff tube is brought close to the end of the thread held by the clamping and severing fixture, whereupon a controller releases the clamped thread which is then aspirated into the interior of the drawoff tube. The mechanical transport mechanism for the thread may be reversed in motion by the controller, permitting already spun thread to be backspaced so that the end of the thread may be reattached to the fibers located in the spinning rotor. The drawoff tube may also be of the telescoping type whose extension is determined by the controller.

  • Patent number: 3999528
Abstract: A diaphragm valve which may serve as an equal pressure valve or as a pressure equalizing valve of a fuel metering and distributing unit for an externally ignited internal combustion engine. The valve has a flexible diaphragm having a clamped diameter and to which a valve plate is connected. The valve plate operatively cooperates with a valve seat of the valve and has a diameter which is as large as possible in relation to the clamped diameter of the diaphragm. The valve also includes a stationary thrust plate which is concentrically disposed relative to the valve seat, which defines a knife-shaped edge which lies in a common plane with the valve seat and which operatively cooperates with the valve plate. The knife-shaped edge has a diameter which is as large as possible in relation to the diameter of the valve plate.

  • Patent number: 3998039
Abstract: A method for open-end spinning according to which discrete fibers are fed into the interior of a rotor located in a spinning chamber and deposited in a fiber groove of the rotor. The fibers are thereafter drawn out of the spinning chamber as twisted fibers formed into a thread. The air which flows into the interior of the rotor is evacuated from the spinning chamber by suction. The apparatus of the invention is arranged so that the spinning chamber has at least one air outlet opening through which air flowing into the interior of the rotor leaves the spinning chamber. The outlet is located in the cover portion of a housing and is connected to an air suction device by at least one air channel.

  • Patent number: 3994267
Abstract: A fuel injection system utilized with an engine having pre-combustion chambers, main combustion chambers, a fuel metering and quantity distribution valve, a suction tube and an air measuring member are described in further detail hereinafter. The fuel metering and quantity distribution valve has a control slide member which is controlled in its displacement by the air measuring member. The control slide member controls the fuel metered to the engine. The fuel metering and quantity distribution valve has a first differential pressure valve associated therewith which maintains the pressure difference between the fuel pressure prevailing upstream and downstream of the fuel metering location constant during injection. Structure is provided to change the pressure difference in dependence on engine parameters.

  • Patent number: 3994273
Abstract: A fuel injection system for externally ignited internal combustion engines in which fuel is individually metered to each injection valve through mutually displaceable metering valves. A diaphragm-type pressure valve is disposed between each metering valve and each injection valve. One of these valves is a differential pressure valve, which maintains a constant pressure difference across the metering valve to which it is connected. The remainder of these diaphragm valves are pressure equalizing valves, controlled by the output pressure of the differential pressure valve to maintain the same constant pressure difference across each of the remaining metering valves. The injection valve supplied with fuel by the differential pressure valve, opens at a higher fuel pressure than the remaining injection valves, thus also serving as a pressure valve.

  • Patent number: 3992864
Abstract: A method for the automatic repair of thread breakage in spinning machines includes the steps of searching for an end of a broken thread on a take-up thread holder. The method involves grasping the end of the thread, if found, pulling the thus grasped thread into a traveler and a thread guide and combining the thus pulled thread with roving emerging from delivery rollers. In the method it is determined if repair of thread breakage is not possible by the series of steps set out above, and then an auxiliary thread is supplied from an auxiliary thread supply and fastened on the thread holder. Subsequently, the auxiliary thread is detached from its supply thereby providing a new thread end on the thread holder, and thereafter the searching, grasping, pulling and combining steps of the method are performed. An apparatus is provided for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 3993286
Abstract: A low profile air jack for lifting vehicles is described, in which the force exerted by a horizontally disposed air cylinder and piston assembly on the lever arm of a lifting member pivoted to the jack frame causes the lifting member to rotate, so that its front end engages and lifts the vehicle. The piston shaft of the air cylinder is connected to the lever arm of the lifting member by a flexible chain and sprocket assembly which acts as a force-multiplying mechanism so that the force acting on the lever arm of the lifting member is approximately double the force which would be exerted if the piston shaft were directly connected to the lever arm by a rigid member. The two flexible chains are connected to a stabilizing bar, which is pivotably attached to the jack frame for both vertical and horizontal movement thereto, rather than directly to the frame, so that equal forces are applied to both chains during the lifting operation.
