Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines includes a housing, which defines an elongated chamber, within which serial pumps including, in respective cylinders, pump pistons driven by a cam shaft via respective cams. The elongated chamber is closed by a single cover. A seal is provided between the cover and the housing by an O-ring tightened between an offset provided on the circumference of the cover and an inwardly facing wall of the housing. The offset provided on the circumference of the housing is so shaped, along its surface facing the inwardly facing wall of the housing that the O-ring is primarily stressed axially, with respect to the direction of fastening of the cover, along two sections which extend in the longitudinal direction of the cover and that the O-ring is primarily stressed radially in the region of the housing adjacent to end walls of the housing.

Abstract: An insulated heat pipe is provided which transfers heat from the engine's exhaust manifold to an exhaust gas reactor. The heat pipe contains a first zone serving as an evaporation zone, a second zone serving as a transport zone for transporting a working medium between the first zone and a third zone. The third zone serves as a condensation zone. The heat pipe has an interior capillary tube along which the condensed heat transfer medium flows toward the heat source and within which the vaporized medium flows toward the heat sink.
Abstract: A fuel supply system for internal combustion engines includes an air-flow measuring member located in the induction tube of the engine. The air-flow measuring member includes a lever which, when displaced, directly displaces a fuel metering control slide of a fuel metering valve assembly. This control slide is subjected to an opposing force exerted by pressurized fluid which may be fuel. The pressure of the control fluid is variable and is changed depending on temperature and on the composition of the exhaust gases. The temperature-dependent control of the fluid pressure is achieved by so disposing a bi-metallic spring in the pressure control valve that its changing force is added to the closing force of a primary control spring in the valve. A separate electric heater is provided to adapt the control process to the heating characteristics of the engine in a desired manner.
Abstract: A fuel tank alarm system comprises three density sensors disposed at different heights within a fuel tank. An electrical density signal produced by the lowest sensor is subtracted from the corresponding signals from the upper two sensors to produce two density-difference signals which are then compared with a reference signal. When an inverse density gradient of dangerous proportion exists in the fuel tank, one or both of the density-difference signals exceeds the reference signal in magnitude and an alarm circuit is actuated. The alarm circuit can automatically start a pump to circulate fuel in the tank and reduce dangerous density inversion of fuel therein.
Abstract: What follows is the description of a two-circuit braking system for motor vehicles having a wheel lock-prevention device. Each circuit includes magnetic valves, while the system includes a switching valve and bypass line structure connecting at least one of the two circuits to the switching valve. The switching valve is associated with a threshold value such that the switching valve is switched in dependence on the threshold value causing the bypass line structure to be placed into open communication with its respective circuit. In such a situation at least some of the magnetic valves are rendered ineffective so that a braking pressure increase without lock-prevention is achieved.

Abstract: A film-loading device for use with X-ray apparatus includes a light-tight compartment with an opening in which a film container may be inserted. During the insertion, the film container actuates electrical switches which energize valves of pneumatic servo-cylinder assemblies. One of these servo assemblies closes the insertion slot with a light-tight slide and the other servo assembly returns an empty film container when a button is pushed manually.
Abstract: For detoxicating the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine an in-series arrangement of a first reactor and an oxidizing reactor is provided with the exhaust line of the engine along with an oxygen measuring element and structure for producing two additional air streams fed to the exhaust line. The first reactor reduces the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas and the second or oxidizing reactor oxidizes the hydrocarbons and the carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas. The oxygen measuring element is mounted to the exhaust line and regulates the mass ratio of air to fuel on the suction side of the engine. The first additional air stream is injected into the exhaust pipe in the flow direction upstream of the oxygen measuring element. The quantity of this air stream is regulated and corresponds to the fuel throughput of the engine so that when the oxygen measuring element measures a stoichiometric mixture (.lambda.=1) a slightly rich air-fuel mixture (.lambda. .apprxeq.0.98-0.99) is supplied to the engine.
Abstract: A flat seat valve for the control of flowing media is described, which valve comprises a control membrane, clamped in fixedly in the valve housing as a movable valve member which is actuated by a solenoid and an armature; the membrane, which is mounted between two valve seats, serves as the movable member controlling the flow of the medium past the two valve seats and is so arranged that a change in one sense of the cross-sectional flow area at one of the valve seats leads to a change in the cross-sectional area of flow in the opposite sense at the other valve seat; the valve serves particularly for the control of the flow of liquids which serve as control media for fuel metering devices.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for micro-finish machining of circular arc-shaped profiled surfaces in annular workpieces utilizing a honing tool. After an initial grinding operation the profiled surfaces of the workpieces are micro-finish machined using two machining phases. During the first machining phase the workpieces are rotated at a first predetermined rotational velocity and the honing tool is pressed against the profiled surfaces at a first predetermined pressure; while during the second machining phase the workpieces are rotated at a second predetermined rotational velocity and the honing tool is pressed against the profiled surfaces at a second predetermined pressure. Furthermore, the first predetermined rotational velocity is lower than the second predetermined rotational velocity while the first predetermined pressure is greater than the second predetermined pressure.
Abstract: What follows is the description of a spring-loaded device for use in the fuel system of an internal combustion engine. The device includes a spring-loaded membrane connected to a valve which in turn provides access to atmospheric air. The arrangement is such that the danger of fuel escaping into the atmosphere or into the engine compartment is prevented.
Abstract: A docking mechanism for watercraft such as barges and the like which is readily secured to a mooring pile and is floatable, the mechanism including a driving apparatus which is engageable with and drives the watercraft and apparatus for effecting the driving engagement. A method of controlling the direction of travel of a watercraft such as barges and the like between particular points from preferably an on-shore control station according to which the driving apparatus of the docking mechanism mentioned above is controlled in its driving relationship to the watercraft.
Abstract: A printing machine for applying printed matter to the outside of dished articles, particularly plastics containers for packaging food stuffs, of non-circular cross-section has a rotary printing drum associated with a revolving head, with supports for the articles, arranged to be indexed past the printing drum and is characterised by each support having an arbor which is operative to support an article throughout the printing operation and at least one additional arbor spaced therefrom and displaceable between an operative position in which it also supports the article and an inoperative position in which it does not support the article. A vacuum, applied through a frontal aperture in the first-mentioned arbor may be provided to assist in retaining the articles on their supports. Alternatively or additionally the articles may be held on to their supports by means of rollers acting on the outside of the articles.
Abstract: An apparatus for adhering strips of predetermined length that previously have been severed from a running web of material to folded blank boxes which includes cutting the strips to length, advancing them by a conveyor seriatim past an adhesive activation station and then coordinating the leading edge of the strip with the arrival of the folded blank box at a roller assembly station where the strip is secured to the box and then discharged.
Abstract: A system for detoxicating the waste gases of an internal combustion engine is described, in which system at least a part of the waste gases is fed, controlled by valve means, into the intake air of the engine, and wherein the said valve controlling waste gas introduction into the intake air is actuated in dependence on the position of the flap of a throttle valve in the air intake duct of the engine.
Abstract: A moulding apparatus having a two-part mould movable between a receiving station at which thermoplastics synthetic material is extruded into the mould and a release station at which a moulded hollow body is removed from the mould. This hollow body is then supported by a blowing and calibrating member before being gripped by a two-part gripper which moves the body from the release station to a transfer station in synchronism with the mould movement. The gripper parts are mounted on arms or levers supporting and/or guiding the mould parts.
Abstract: The shredding unit comprises a horizontal drum mounted transversely within a cage having a front feed opening. Knives are rigidly fixed on the circumference of the drum which is partially surrounded by an evacuation grid having calibrated holes. In the active or work position, backing knives placed in alignment at each end of the grid and opposite to the drum project inwards from the grid while the knives of the drum pass in the immediate vicinity. Each backing knife is mounted at the extremity of a support plate and is capable of withdrawing under excessive pressure in opposition to a jack which urges the backing knife towards the active position.
Abstract: An apparatus for cooling goods by contacting the goods with low temperature gas while transferring intermittently the goods. The low temperature gas is circulated forcedly in a section while being flowed in a direction reverse to the direction of transferring goods.

Abstract: A fuel injection system for continuous injection of fuel into the induction tube of an internal combustion engine. The induction tube includes adjacent convergent and divergent regions. A throttling element, composed of two conical parts with adjoining bases forms a narrow, annular aperture in cooperation with the diverging region of the induction tube. The throttling element can slide along its axis and its position determines the setting of a control slide within a fuel metering valve assembly which relates the metered out fuel quantity to the air flow through the narrow annular aperture. A bellows mechanism and a lever limit the axial excursion of the throttle element so as to maintain a minimum vacuum in the induction tube. The system also includes a gas-pedal linked cam plate which sets the location of the fulcrum for the limiting lever.
Abstract: The airflow rate through the induction tube of an internal combustion engine is measured by a first transducer which delivers a set point signal to a control amplifier. The amplifier also receives a feedback signal from a second transducer which monitors the position of a servo-motor controlling the quantity of fuel metered out to the engine. The feedback loop maintains a desired fuel-air ratio and includes provision for calibration and adjustment.

Abstract: In a filter box a first air flow generating unit drives air, containing solid impurities, through a filter disposed upstream of said unit. Without interrupting the drawing of impure air into the filter box, the filter is periodically cleaned by drawing auxiliary air through the clean side of the filter by a second air flow generating unit for dislodging and carrying away impurities accumulated on the work side of the filter. The drawing of impure air into the filter box is effected by the second air flow generating unit during the periodic cleaning operation.
