The expansion body has elements which are moved radially outward, and preferably spread, as a result of form-fitting cooperation with countersurfaces located on the casing when the body approaches thereto.

    Abstract: What follows is a description of a fuel injection system for spark plug-ignited internal combustion engines with compression of the air-fuel mixture and structure for controlling the system pressure. The system is one which includes a device for regulating a fuel injection quantity operating in dependence on the air quantity streaming through a suction tube of the engine, a pressure regulator for determining normal system pressure, injection nozzles which have an opening pressure lower than the system pressure, a continuously delivering fuel pump, and the structure identified above. This structure adjusts the device for regulating the fuel injection quantity so that the starting pressure in the system is retained below the opening pressure of the injection nozzles and above the vapor pressure of the fuel until a quantity of fuel sufficient to replace the quantity of fuel evaporated or leaked due to a temperature gradient in the system resulting from engine cut off has been restored.

    Abstract: A fuel injection system for externally ignited internal combustion engines preferably has one fuel injection location in the air induction tube (manifold). The metering of fuel occurs independently of the condition of the air prevailing at the injection location, the injection location is disposed ahead of the junction of the air induction tube which leads to the individual engine cylinders. Air is brought to a high velocity by means within the induction tube and impinges, at this high velocity, immediately on the injected fuel, enveloping the same. As a result, the mixture preparation is effected without wetting of the inner wall of the induction tube and the means which bring the air to the required high velocity.

    Abstract: A fuel injection system for internal combustion engines employing continuous fuel injection into an induction tube. The system includes a regulator which maintains constant fuel pressure upstream of a fuel metering and distribution valve assembly which has individual metering apertures for each injection valve of the engine. A control slide determines the effective cross-section of these metering apertures. The pressure gradient across the metering apertures is held constant by fuel injection valves constructed as flat-seat valves whose movable valve closing member is attached to and guided by a diaphragm. Fuel delivered by the metering and distribution valve tends to open the flat seat valve, permitting fuel to flow through the valve orifice. This opening force is opposed by a single helical control spring, or by a single helical control spring augmented by ambient air pressure. The valve closing member may be provided with a central bore.

    Abstract: An rpm regulator of a fuel injection pump for internal combustion engine includes a single-arm drag lever and an intermediate lever which are bent to define a space into which a compression spring extends. The stroke of the compression spring is limited in both directions by stops defined by the intermediate lever and the drag lever, respectively. The regulator also includes a control spring arrangement which engages one end of the drag lever, a fuel quantity setting member which engages one end of the intermediate lever and controls due to its movement the quantity of fuel delivered by the fuel pump and an rpm governor which exerts an rpm defendent force against the intermediate lever in opposition to the force of the control spring arrangement. With this regulator the pump can deliver an excess fuel quantity for starting purposes and an automatically reduced normal fuel injection quantity when the rpm increases. This result is accomplished without increasing the dimensions of the fuel pump.

    Abstract: The inlet and outlet ends of a catalytic reactor are instrumented with oxygen sensors. A change of the fuel-air concentration of the combustible mixture is indicated by a jump in the output voltage of the sensors; the voltage of the inlet sensor changes before that of the outlet sensor and the greater the time difference between these changes, the higher is the catalytic activity of the reactor. When a repeatable and constant engine condition is reached, the fuel-air mixture is abruptly changed and an electronic circuit enables a logical circuit which controls a signal lamp. If, during a predetermined time interval, the outlet sensor also changes its output voltage, indicating a time difference which is too short, the warning signal is energized and the operator is alerted to the insufficient level of reactor activity.

    Abstract: An electromagnetic 3-way valve arrangement having two valves, each controlled by a separate armature of a single coil solenoid, is described. The top end of each armature has a self-aligning closing element, and the two armatures are held apart by springs acting against an intermediate member, which also contains the valve seat for the lower armature. When deenergized, these springs act against the armatures to close the upper valve and open the lower valve. When the solenoid coil is partially energized, it moves the lower armature upward to close the lower valve also. When the solenoid coil is fully energized, it moves the upper armature downward to open the upper valve. If desired, the armature can be disposed within the solenoid so that the upper armature is operated at partial energization, and the lower armature at full energization of the solenoid coil.

    Abstract: A rack and locking unit for a bicycle includes a pedestal, a lock box mounted on the pedestal and at least one arm member mounted to the lock box and extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to the pedestal. The lock box has at least one locking bar structure mounted to it which is axially and pivotable displaceable relative to the lock box between a locked and unlocked position. Within the lock box there is provided a locking mechanism for each locking bar structure which is actuatable externally of the lock box, by, for example, a key. Preferably the locking bar structure receives a wheel and a portion of the frame of the bicycle to lock it to the unit. The arm member is in turn provided with a shaft which extends outwardly therefrom in the displacement direction of the locking bar structure. The arm member and shaft receive the other wheel of the bicycle and prevent its removal when the first mentioned wheel is locked in place.
