    Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines including a cylinder bushing and a mounting flange fastened thereto. The mounting flange mounts the cylinder bushing to a pump housing and includes an adjustment tool engaging portion. This adjustment tool engaging portion extends transversely outwardly from the longitudinal axis of the cylinder bushing to a greater extent than does the location of the bolts which mount the flange to the pump housing. The cylinder bushing is received within the pump housing so that it can be rotated by the adjustment tool within a limited angular region for effecting a basic setting of the fuel quantity supplied by the pump.

    Abstract: A fuel supply and metering valve assembly used for injection of fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a control pressure circuit which determines the restoring force on the movable member of the fuel metering valve. The magnitude of the control pressure, and hence the fuel quantity metered out by the valve assembly can be altered by the intermittent actuation of a pressure relief valve which controls a fluid bypass. The duty cycle of the intermittently acting bypass valve is controlled by a regulating device which responds to the indications of measuring transducers, for example an oxygen probe located in the exhaust line of the engine. The transducer signal is superimposed on a sawtooth voltage at the input of a differential amplifier which interacts with other control circuitry so as to vary the length of time during which the electromagnetic bypass valve is energized.

    Abstract: A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine whose air induction tube contains an air flow rate measuring member with non-linear operating characteristics, coupled to a potentiometric transducer which produces the electric command variable for a follower control loop. A control amplifier drives a servomotor which sets the metering slide of a fuel metering valve assembly. The servomotor shaft is coupled to a second potentiometric transducer whose output is compared with the command variable in a bridge circuit connected to the input of the control amplifier. The mechanical link between the servomotor and the fuel metering slide has a non-linearity similar to that of the air flow rate measuring member.

    Abstract: A pinch ring for the thread balloon of a spinning machine or twisting machine is substantially a single wire loop forming a spiral or helix. The ring may have overlapping end portions. The degree of overlap and the shape of the overlapping end portions as well as the pitch and the axial clearance between opposite points in the overlapping portions are all critical to the performance of the ring. The pinch ring defined by the invention permits substantially higher production rates without decreasing the rupture strength of the thread and provides a thread with substantially higher strength at standard production speeds.

    Abstract: An apparatus for deflecting beams of radiated energy, for example, laser beams, includes a primary deflector capable of deviating the incident beams into a plurality of directions, e.g., under the control of an electric field or by other means. In order to amplify the angular deflection so obtained, a set of essentially parallel diffraction gratings intercepts the deviated beams. The grating parameters are so chosen that each of the incident beams, arriving at slightly different incident angles, is diffracted by at least one grating in the set of diffraction gratings. Since the diffraction angle is substantially larger than the incident angle, an effective amplification of the angular deflection results.The apparatus is adaptable to deflection in a plane and may be used for storing information in holograms.

    Abstract: A speed regulator for fuel injection pumps of internal combustion engines includes an intermediate lever pivotable about a pin carried by a shaft which is coupled via a head to a fuel quantity adjustment member of a fuel injection pump. The shaft is acted on by a speed signalling device with speed dependent force against the arbitrarily variable force of a main control spring. A speed signalling device acts on the intermediate lever. A one-armed drag lever, pivotable about the same axis defined by the pin, about which the intermediate lever pivots, may be provided. In this case, the drag lever is acted on by the main control spring, which otherwise acts directly on the intermediate lever. The shaft is guided in a bushing eccentrically inserted in the housing of the pump and is rotatable and arrestable from without.

    Abstract: A fuel injection system for mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engines of the type employing continuous fuel injection with an induction tube. A heatable control element, operating in dependence on temperature, forms part of the control valve. The heatable control element, which may be a bimetallic spring, acts in opposition to the force of another spring.
