    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a novel frequency division multiplex system for use in connection with transient signals such as speech and music signals. One embodiment includes a pair of comb filters, the response characteristics of which are staggered so that the pass bands of one comb filter are in alignment with the attenuation bands of the other comb filter. Each channel signal is filtered by its associated comb filter and then combined to develop a comb frequency division duplex (CFDD) signal for transmission over a transmission medium. At the receiving terminal the CFDD signal is decombined into the individual channels and passed through another pair of comb filters, the response characteristic of each comb filter being the same as that of the comb filter in a corresponding input channel. In another embodiment, a recording and playback system is provided to record the CFDD signal, i.e., two channels of information in a single track on disc or tape and to playback such recorded information.

    Abstract: An open end spinning machine has individual spinning locations which include a spinning rotor, various drive rollers and conduits and drive shafts which are brought into tangential engagement with drive belts or the like. For this purpose, each spinning location is enclosed in a movable housing which can be displaced vertically on a column mounted on the machine by one end. A stop pin in the column cooperates with a rotating ring in the housing and provides therewith a bayonet-like engagement. The motion of the housing in the opposite direction is limited by the angled arm of a lost-motion slide connected to the housing which makes contact with the stop pin in the column. Easy removal without tools permits ready access to the machine space behind each housing.

The armature loosely holds valve closure members which cooperate with the opposing valve seats. The spring clamp engages both bearing shells and retains them in assembly with the blowing element to thereby hold the blowing element in a form-fitting and positive force-transmitting manner while permitting the blowing element to pivot about its longitudinal axis. The blowing element includes walls defining a passage through which the air passes into the room. In one embodiment the walls define projections which in turn define an inlet passage for the blowing element which is narrower in width than its outlet passage.

    Abstract: An apparatus for mounting valve bags on the filling spouts of machines which fill the bags with finely-grained material, e.g. cement. The bags are folded flat and are stacked in a bag storage container. A feed mechanism removes the topmost bag from the stack and positions it in the path of a pivotal arm. The arm is provided with rollers which correctly position and shape the top of the bag and open the valve therein. Lever-actuated clamps hold the bag while it is mounted on the filling spout of the filling machine.In a variant of the invention, the bag feeding mechanism rotates and occupies successive stations, one of which is traversed by the pivotal arm which removes the bag from the mechanism for mounting on the filling spout.

    Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for supplying fuel for acceleration during the warm-up phase of an internal combustion engine. The fuel supplied downstream of an arbitrarily actuatable throttle butterfly valve located in the induction tube of the engine being in addition to the fuel supplied by a fuel supply system. There is disclosed a motion control means which is associated with the butterfly valve and actuated thereby upon opening of this valve. The motion control means further includes electrical contacts disposed in an electrical circuit, electromagnet means in the circuit and other valve means arranged to be controlled by said electromagnet for feeding fuel into said induction tube downstream of said butterfly valve upon closing of said contacts. There are several variants of the control means; one constituted by a flexible bellows and the other by a dash pot.

    Abstract: An electrical equipment terminal or connecting member is designed to clamp and lock elastically the bared end of a supply or distribution cable. It comprises a cylindrical core with constant cross-section, an elastic ring of cross-section conjugate with that of said core and adapted to encircle the core, and a clamping screw engaged in a diametric tapping of the core after having traversed a conjugate opening of the ring. A longitudinal cavity of the core starting from its side opposite the tapping and whose plane of symmetry passes through the axis of the tapping defines with a portion of the inner surface of the ring, a housing to conductively contact the bared end of the cable. The elements are all of cupriferous metal. The invention is especially advantageous in an electrical end pressure contact connector.

    Abstract: A speed control system for electric vehicles for varying the applied voltage to a series wound traction motor to vary the speed thereof by dividing the main power source into a number of small units, which are then grouped and re-grouped through a series of relays actuated by a controller to provide several values of voltage from low to high voltage in an orderly progressive manner. The circuit is also provided with a ballast or surge-limiting resistor in each grouping and re-grouping, resulting in a smooth power flow and thus smooth speed change while at the same time limiting the battery drain to a safe maximum. The ballast resistor is automatically shunted out of the power circuit as the vehicle picks up speed, thereby providing an intermediate control point between each battery re-grouping step.

With this structure it is possible to alter the restoring force mentioned above so that a momentarily enriched fuel-air mixture is achieved when the butterfly valve is suddenly opened and so that a momentarily weakened fuel-air mixture is achieved when the butterfly valve is suddenly closed.

When one reel is empty, the wire must pass from one hollow housing to the second hollow housing. The apparatus is constructed from two cooperating halves, which may be hinged or capable of other relative motion, to permit passage of the wire when desired but which close fully during the unwinding process to prevent discontinuities in the interior surface which would tend to damage the moving wire.

The fuel quantity is arbitrarily set by the gas pedal and a first potentiometric transducer generates an electrical command signal. The air flow through the induction tube constitutes the controlled variable whose magnitude is transformed into an electrical signal by a second potentiometer coupled to an air flow rate meter. The two signals are compared at the input of a control amplifier which drives a servomotor. The servomotor adjusts the opening of the air throttle valve of the engine, thereby changing the air flow through the induction tube until the air flow rate meter signals that the air quantity is proportional to the metered out fuel quantity.

    Abstract: A connector for connecting two lengths of electric cable, especially of h current capabilities, comprising a male terminal or plug, traversed by a pin, and a female terminal or socket carrying a sleeve freely rotatable thereon but resiliently urged longitudinally toward the end of the socket by a resilient means on the socket. When inserted in the socket, the contacting surfaces on both plug and socket are positively engaged and a rotation of the sleeve further interlocks the pin and sleeve by increasing the resilient load of the resilient means by a slight relative longitudinal displacement of the sleeve resulting from the rotation thereof. This connector ensures a highly efficient electrical contact between the cable ends and eliminates all risk of accidental disconnection.
