  • Patent number: 3951119
Abstract: A fuel injection system for substantially continuous injection into a suction tube of a mixture-compressing, spark plug-ignited internal combustion engine includes a fuel line and a fuel pump. A measuring member and an arbitrarily actuatable throttle flap are disposed, one behind the other, in the suction tube. The measuring member is displaceable in proportion to air quantity and against a resetting force which is normally constant but which is changeable in dependence on engine parameters. A metering valve having a movable part is disposed in the fuel line and coupled to the measuring member. The measuring member actuates the movable part for metering fuel quantity in desired proportion with respect to air quantity. A regulating mechanism, which includes a piston, is actuated in dependence on fuel pressure prevailing downstream from the fuel pump. The piston acts against the force of a spring.

  • Patent number: 3950925
Abstract: In spinning machines, a thread is spun from a roving emerging from a draw frame. When a thread breakage occurs, the roving continues to emerge but its path is deviated by air currents. The presence of the roving on the deviated path is detected and a thread re-attachment process is initiated. An apparatus for practicing the above method includes a light source and light detector for determining the presence of the roving in the appropriate location. An alternative embodiment of the invention provides a mechanical device, e.g. a foraminous gate, to respond to the presence of unspun roving in a suction bypass channel of the spinning machine. In both cases, an actuating signal is produced for initiating the thread re-attachment process.

  • Patent number: 3950986
Abstract: A non-contacting shaft horsepower measurement system in which a torque indicating signal is obtained from the phase shift between a pair of signals derived from two sensors sensing the passage of a torque responsive toothed wheel and a reference toothed wheel spaced on the shaft, this torque signal being then multiplied by a speed signal derived from a third sensor thereby developing a signal proportional to instantaneous horsepower.

  • Patent number: 3951120
Abstract: A diaphragm-controlled pressure control valve assembly is provided, especially for fuel injection systems in internal combustion engines, in which a measuring member, disposed within the suction tube, is moved by aspirated air against a resetting force. The resetting force is supplied by a pressurized fluid, delivered through a pressure line, which continually acts upon the measuring member. The pressure, which is normally constant, can be arbitrarily changed by pressure control valves. At least one of the pressure-control valves is embodied as a flat-seat valve in which the pre-load of its movable valve member can be changed in dependence on parameters. The movable valve member is constituted by a first diaphragm on whose side pointing away from a fixed valve seat there is disposed a second diaphragm in positive contact with the first diaphragm. The second diaphragm is preferably provided with a relief bore.

  • Patent number: 3949237
Abstract: A vehicle which carries electric energy-consuming equipment on board is provided with a power supply system such as an internal combustion engine adapted to supply energy both for the propulsion of the vehicle and for the operation of the equipment on board. For this purpose, the combustion engine comprises a dual fuel feed system and a valve assembly which is formed of oppositely working valves to effect a mutually exclusive operation of the two fuel feed systems. One fuel feed system ensures a high engine output for the propulsion of the vehicle, while the other fuel feed system ensures a substantially constant, reduced engine output for supplying the equipment with energy.

  • Patent number: 3946716
Abstract: A centrifugal rpm regulator for the fuel injection pump of an internal combustion engine is equipped with a separate, independent, rpm-responsive adjustment mechanism which rotates a cam. This cam serves as the limiting stop for a lever which controls the injected fuel quantity and it determines the maximum injected fuel quantity. The cam is linked to a plunger which is actuated by rpm-dependent fluid pressure. Axial motion of the plunger results in rotation of the cam. The cam is mounted on a pin which is affixed eccentrically and adjustably within the regulator housing.

  • Patent number: 3945802
Abstract: In an exhaust gas purifying apparatus which includes first and second reactors in the exhaust line of an internal combustion engine there is provided a heater burner to which there is delivered an air-fuel mixture and which heats the first reactor for rapidly bringing it to operating temperatures when the engine is started. In the air conduit through which combustion air for the air-fuel mixture is delivered to the burner there is provided a valve controlled in such a manner that the flow rate of combustion air remains constant and is thus independent of the counterpressure at the heating burner and the output delivery of the air pump driving the combustion air. Upon reaching operating temperatures the burner is extinquished and the combustion air is rerouted past the first reactor to the second reactor.
