  • Patent number: 5169189
Abstract: A device is disclosed for holding a decorative cover on a bumper. Known holding devices provide either attachment of the decorative cover to the bumper in a manner fixed by means of a fastening clip or screw fastenings which are passed through an elongate hole in the bumper, the intention of this being that the elastic bumper should be movable relative to the decorative cover. The new device for holding a decorative cover includes a holding clip and a fixing pin, the decorative cover merely requiring to be pushed on rather than attaching by screw threads. The elongate hole is made in the holding clip. The pin is inserted with an accurate fit into the bumper and can be moved along the elongate hole relative to the holding clip and the decorative cover.

  • Patent number: 5168948
Abstract: A rear wheel steering is operated by a mechanical gear, which is connected on an input side to a front wheel steering. The gear has a controllable transmission ratio, a control element controlling the transmission being adjusted against spring force by a self locking free positioning motor. In the event of failure of a control unit operating the positioning motor as a function of the travelling speed, a maximum transmission ratio for deflection in the same direction of the front wheels and rear wheels is set by spring force.

  • Patent number: 5168950
Abstract: In a regulating system for the regulation of the driving torque of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, in which wheel slippage occurring at the driven wheels of the motor vehicle are detected according to magnitude and in which the driving torque of the internal combustion engine is reduced, when exceeding a slippage threshold, value by a wheel slippage signal indicating the magnitude of the wheel slippage of a driven wheel, the friction coefficient effective in each case in the wheel circumferential direction is determined as measure for the road condition, and the slippage threshold determinable for the driven wheels is changed in dependence on the respectively determined friction coefficient effective in the wheel circumferential direction.

  • Patent number: 5169356
Abstract: A passenger compartment air filter arrangement for motor vehicles having a ventilation or air-conditioning system is provided with a filter for the air sucked in out of the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle. The filter is installed directly behind the cover of an intake channel. On the inlet side of the channel, the housing has a web-like flange which presses in a sealing manner into damping material of the foot space cover when the cover with the filter and a foot space cover are mounted, to achieve a good suction effect and noise damping.

  • Patent number: 5167296
Abstract: A safety device is provided for vehicles whose passenger compartment has at least one closable opening, such as a roof opening and side window. The safety device is provided with a sensor system which detects decelerations in the driving speed occurring in the driving direction and activates a closing device assigned to the closing element of the opening if a deceleration exceeds a predetermined value. As a result, in the event of an accident the vehicle occupants are prevented from being thrown out of the vehicle through the opening or injured by the entry of foreign bodies. The closing device is preferably provided with an energy store which, on being activated in the event of a hazard, brings about a rapid closing movement of the closing element.

  • Patent number: 5167117
Abstract: An apparatus for cooling components of an airplane engine at least partially operated by a cryogenically stored propellant via cooling air includes an air supply line for supplying the cooling air from an outside environment. A heat exchanger exchanges the cooling air with the propellant to precool the cooling air and includes a condenser having an in-flow and an out-flow side connected to the air supply line for precooling the cooling air. A pump is coupled to a cooling air line for conveying the precooled air in a liquid or vapor state to the components to be cooled wherein the cryogenically stored propellant acts upon the condenser. A propellant tank is connected to the in-flow side of the condenser and stores the cryogenically stored propellant, wherein the out-flow side of the condenser is connected to at least one combustion system of the airplane engine.

  • Patent number: 5167432
Abstract: Safety bumpers provide flexible strips for making contact inside a hollow space in a foamed body. It is suggested to carry out the making of contact by way of a closed switching strip which is mounted in a hollow space bordered by a frame preferably designed as a U-profile. An elastic pressure strip having webs extending transversely with respect to the switching strip is assigned to this switching strip. As a result, making of contact is ensured in the case of an arrangement which is not susceptible to pollution and humidity influences and which also permits a pre-assembling.

  • Patent number: 5168163
Abstract: The invention is preferably used for detecting the positions of articles made to advance on a belt conveyor or the like. The device comprises a radiation emitter located so that its radiation is propagated through the conveyor belt. The detection is preferably effected by a pair of detectors arranged adjacent each other so as to generate a signal which indicates that two articles are spaced apart only when both of the detectors are struck simultaneously by the radiation generated by the emitter.

  • Patent number: 5166787
Abstract: An endoscope has a video device arranged at the distal end of the endoscope shaft. The video device is connected by means of a transmission system to a supply unit arranged at the proximal end of the endoscope shaft. The video device is provided with a lens for imaging an object field and an illumination unit. The lens and the image recorder are combined into a video unit which is held in such a movable manner at the endoscope shaft that the outer contour of the cross-section of the video unit lays essentially within the outer contour of the cross-section of the distal end of the endoscope shaft when being introduced into the cavity to be examined. After termination of the introduction procedure, the video unit can be moved in relation to the distal end of the endoscopic shaft beyond the outer contour of the cross-section and/or longitudinal section.

  • Patent number: 5165561
Abstract: A fuel lock as part of a venting arrangement for fuel tanks has to ensure that when the fuel tank is on its side, particularly after a lateral rotation of 270.degree., only a legally tolerated fuel quantity can flow out from the vent conduit. The fuel lock has an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber separated from the former by a partition and communicating with its chamber by a connecting conduit. The inlet chamber is connected to a surge tank of the fuel tank by an inlet conduit and the outlet chamber is connected to a vent conduit. In the inlet chamber, the inlet conduit and connecting conduit mouthpiece openings within the chamber and, in the outlet chamber, the connecting conduit and outlet conduit mouthpiece openings within the chamber are located relative to one another such that in the syphon conduit formed by these conduits and passing through the chambers, in each case a break point for the syphon effect is present within the chambers.

  • Patent number: 5166505
Abstract: A process and apparatus for three-dimensional position control of the focal point of a high-energy laser beam by measuring its directional and focal point deviation. A portion of the energy of the laser beam is split off by means of a beam splitter extending over the whole cross-section of the laser beam and is focussed on a quadrant detector by means of an optical system which introduces an astigmatic aberration. The various patterns and pattern positions generated on the quadrant detector as a function of the defocussing and directional deviation are analyzed by means of an electronic system, and corresponding control signals are generated.

  • Patent number: 5165228
Abstract: Turboramjet engine having a variable air intake, a ram air duct annularly enveloping the basic turbojet engine, and shutoff devices with which the ram air duct is energized with air when the basic turbojet engine is shut off and with which the basic turbojet engine is energized with air when the ram air duct is shut off. An air tract communicates with the air intake on a tubular duct carried axially on the basic turbojet engine and expands to an annular inlet section to the ram air duct. The shutoff devices are associated at least on the inlet side with quadrilateral sections of the tubular duct. As shutoff means for the inlet flow, use is made of an axially adjustable and internally swept sleeve valve and at least one flap that can be pivoted against a partial inlet area of the inlet section, which flap seals off the sleeve valve in lid-fashion when the inlet section is in a jointly exposed position.
