  • Patent number: 8111923
Abstract: An automated image processing system and method are provided for class-based segmentation of a digital image. The method includes extracting a plurality of patches of an input image. For each patch, at least one feature is extracted. The feature may be a high level feature which is derived from the application of a generative model to a representation of low level feature(s) of the patch. For each patch, and for at least one object class from a set of object classes, a relevance score for the patch, based on the at least one feature, is computed. For at least some or all of the pixels of the image, a relevance score for the at least one object class based on the patch scores is computed. An object class is assigned to each of the pixels based on the computed relevance score for the at least one object class, allowing the image to be segmented and the segments labeled, based on object class.

  • Patent number: 8111432
Abstract: A system and method for infrared watermarking using gray component replacement and other color removal schemes is shown. This method includes providing a substrate and implementing two infrared absorption strategies, one with low infrared absorption and the other with high infrared absorption. These two strategies are then combined in order to form two gamuts with substantially similar shapes. This combination can be made by blending the gamuts at areas where one of the strategies do not meet or implementing the intersection of the two gamuts. A watermark is then printed along with an image. The resultant image with watermark is void of artifacts while still having a consistent watermark signal.

  • Patent number: 8109508
Abstract: A method and system improves sheet registration in a document processing device. A technique is implemented that produces accurate results with merely a small tail wag. To do so, the technique ultimately establishes or determines a variety of parameters (e.g. lateral position of a sheet, skew, registration time, nominal sheet velocity, and correction velocity). These parameters are then used to calculate a lateral velocity profile. In this regard, the calculated velocity profiles are applied to the wheels or nips, in the paper path. Thus, the wheels can be controlled and will allow for improved sheet registration in the document processing device.

  • Patent number: 8107106
Abstract: There is provided a system for a print production facility, with print job processing departments, in which a wait time interval is determined for each recorded instance in which an output, from a set of multiple outputs, is delivered from a first one of the print job processing departments to a second one of the print job processing departments. A statistical metric value, representative of a wait time interval for the set of multiple outputs, is computed, and either a workflow relationship between the print job processing departments or at least one processing capability associated with at least one of the print job processing departments is changed with both a total number of recorded instances and the statistical metric value.

  • Patent number: 8107593
Abstract: This invention makes it possible to transparently test replacement functionality and optionally migrate subscribers on analog phone lines, served, for example, by PSTN Class 5 elements, to Next Generation Network (NGN) elements when copper co-termination is leveraged. The method and apparatus mechanizes replacement continuity verification to the NGN element from the analog dial tone port and the multi-element network changes required for real time per line per-migration, operational testing and optional migration to the NGN element. All of the network elements are accessible from a single device, the Control Computer used by this invention. Each line can be transparently tested and optionally migrated during a short time period when the subscriber is not using the analog line. In effect, this testing and optional migration is actually changing the state of the NGN element to operational for test purposes and if the tests pass, the analog port and associated DSLAM port can be optionally deactivated.

  • Patent number: 8108766
Abstract: A computer-implemented method, device, and computer readable medium transform a markup language document from a digital form to a user-specified form on a display device. Based on a configuration file, a digital markup language document is processed. For a current navigated-to page in the markup language document, context is set to a page node, and a page transformation is performed by the computer. A selection language expression is evaluated, and a node transformation is performed. The node transformation may include setting context, determining the type of decoration associated with the current context, reading the selection language expressions, computing a decoration parameter value for each of the decoration parameters associated with each declaration, and creating and displaying a decoration based on the computed decoration parameter values. The steps may be repeated for remaining markup language node and for each remaining decoration declaration.

  • Patent number: 8108247
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that facilitate presenting estimated toner consumption for a print job to a user. A print job is identified from a print job queue or by a job ticket, and is analyzed to identify print job parameters such as rendering mode, resolution, pages in the job, etc. A user may adjust rendering resolution and/or a job sub-setting such as a page cycle value or multiple thereof (e.g., where every Nth page of the job is the same or similar). Raster image processing is performed on the print job (with or without printing the job) to generate rasters, and a lookup table is accessed to identify an amount of toner required for each page given the rasters generated therefor at the given resolution in the given rendering mode. Toner cost estimation information is summarized in a report that is presented to the user (e.g., on a GUI, a printed page, or via electronic transfer).

  • Patent number: 8107099
Abstract: A watermark is provided for use with images or image portions, such as saturated text. The watermark is provided as a modulation to the optical density of a public image or image portion wherein both modulated and unmodulated portions of the public image or image portion have an optical density that is beyond a threshold optical density beyond which the human visual system has a low sensitivity to optical density variations. Alternatively, the modulation is made at such a low amplitude as to be difficult to perceive by the human visual system. The modulation may be applied via an overprinting operation. Alternatively the modulation may be applied to image data prior to printing.
