Abstract: Workpieces are quenched by gases in a heat-treatment system (1) and the circulated gases are recooled on cooling surfaces (12, 15) in at least one heat exchanger (11, 14), the cooling surfaces (15) of the heat exchanger (14) are cooled by a primary refrigeration unit (20) and a refrigerant to temperatures below 0.degree. C., preferably to temperatures below -20.degree. C. or even below -40.degree. C., to increase the intensity of the quenching. To reduce the size and power of the refrigeration unit (20), the quenching gas is sent in succession through at least one heat exchanger (11) cooled with water and at least one heat exchanger (14) cooled by a refrigerant. To reduce the size and power of the refrigeration unit (20) even further, this unit and a secondary refrigerant are used initially to cool down a storage volume of the primary refrigerant, such as a cooling brine, being stored under little or no pressure, to a temperature below 0.degree. C.

Abstract: A gear motor (1), with an electric motor (4) whose rotor (7) has a hollow shaft (8), drives, through at least one gear box (26) with at least one drive step, at least one load. For the purpose of compact configuration combined with low vibration, there is coaxially disposed in the hollow shaft (8) an output shaft (19) which can be shifted selectively by means of a first clutch (24) to the hollow shaft (8), and by means of a second clutch (16) via the gear box (26) to the hollow shaft (8). Preferably the clutches are configured as magnetic clutches, and again preferably the first clutch (24) is disposed for the direct shifting of the hollow shaft (8) to the output shaft (19) at the one end of the hollow shaft (8), and the second clutch (16) at the other end of the hollow shaft (8). The gear motor (1) is used preferentially for driving rotary parts in crystal pulling apparatus.

Abstract: In the production of castings from a melt of a reactive metal selected from the group consisting of titanium, titanium alloys, and titanium-based alloys, a reusable casting mold (20) is used; the mold, at least in the area of the surface which comes in contact with the melt, consists of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of tantalum, niobium, zirconium, and/or their alloys. The casting mold (20) preferably consists, at least in the area of the surface which comes in contact with the melt, of a tantalum based alloy containing at least 50 wt. % of tantalum. The casting molds can be made of a homogeneous metal, but it is also possible to insert shells of the metals in question into a base body to form the boundaries of the mold cavities, whereas the base body itself consists of some other metal or alloy or of a nonmetal such as graphite or silicon nitride.

Abstract: Disclosed is a fluid delivery supply unit having an internal gear pump as a pump unit, with a bearing race in which a driven inner gear is arranged on a bearing journal and the inner gear rotates with it by way of toothing engagement with an outer gear arranged between the inner gear and the bearing race, and the inner gear has one tooth fewer than the outer gear so that a pumping action is produced. A low noise level, resistance to corrosion, and a reduced weight, are obtained by forming parts of the internal gear pump, such as the bearing race, inner gear or outer gear, of a ceramic material.
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the reactivation of denatured protein, in which the protein is incubated with a solution of Tris base or/and a salt of Tris at a concentration of at least 400 mmol/l and at a pH at which the protein to be treated can take up its native conformation.

Abstract: At least one measurement device detects the wheel load or axle load of the vehicle on at least one wheel, and an electronic control unit produces control signals for the wheel brakes at least as a function of the braking demand from the driver and of the detected wheel load or axle load selecting from characteristic brake pressure profiles the profile prescribing the required brake pressure based on driver's braking demand and the load state of the vehicle determined from the load state of the wheel or of the axle, and controlling the brakes in accordance with this profile during the braking process.

Abstract: Under conditions which indicate all wheels are unstable, all have been in pressure decrease for a long time, and the vehicle reference velocity has been continuously negatively corrected for a long time, recovery are flags set on all wheels. If all recovery flags are set and four wheel drive axle oscillations are present and the reference velocity has not been in negative correction for too long, the gradient of the vehicle reference velocity is limited to a fixed lesser slope. If one or more recovery flags are set, other measures can be taken, including flattening of the vehicle reference velocity through gradual additions to the calculated vehicle acceleration, and giving longer pressure holds and delaying pressure increase. The recovery flag is reset separately on each wheel only when that specific wheel becomes completely stable.
