  • Patent number: 4488191
Abstract: A magnetic recording disk cartridge comprises a recording disk and a casing for accommodating the recording disk. The casing is provided with a pair of magnetic head receiving openings in the front and rear side walls thereof. The magnetic head receiving openings are normally closed and are opened when the cartridge is loaded in a recording-reproducing system. The shutter member for closing the magnetic head receiving openings is formed by bending a single plate material and comprises a pair of arm portions connected with each other by a bight portion. A pair of shutter portions for closing the respective magnetic head receiving openings are formed on the respective arm portions at an intermediate portion thereof. The free end portions of the arm portions respectively form bearing portions which are engaged with engaging ribs projecting inwardly from the front and rear side walls of the casing and support the shutter member for rotation about the ribs.

  • Patent number: 4488184
Abstract: A videodisc playback system is equipped with a reading device that sequentially reads the key code signals recorded on a videodisc in order to discriminate field, frame, or track. A mistracking pulse generator temporarily stores two key code signals that were consecutively read from the reading device, compares the two stored key code signals and detects the occurrence of mistracking from the two key code signals, and at the same time, generates mistracking pulses in an expanded blanking time, in a number that corresponds to the number of tracks travelled in the opposite direction to the playback shifting direction when the mistracking was detected. A forced driving device forcibly shifts the playback tracks one track at a time in the playback shifting direction with every mistracking pulse impressed from the mistracking pulse generator.

  • Patent number: 4486258
Abstract: A labeling device is described by means of which adhesive labels can be printed, dispensed, and applied on an article. During each operating cycle an adhesive label is printed in the device and transported into a dispensing position below an applicator roll which is mounted for rotation on an elastically deformable axle. In order to render the applicator roll yieldable to a degree desirable to make it conform to the surface to be provided with an adhesive label, the applicator roll is supported on the axle in a central region of its longitudinal extension, while on either side of said central region there follow axle bore regions extending up to the end faces of the applicator roll in which the latter surrounds the axle with a clearance.

  • Patent number: 4485302
Abstract: A radiation image recorded in a stimulable phosphor is read out by stimulating the phosphor with a stimulating ray to have the phosphor emit light and detecting the emitted light with a photodetector. A radiation image information thus obtained is read out by a photodetector by way of a light guide member which collects the light emitted by the phosphor and guides the collected light to a photodetector. The light guide member is made of a transparent sheet having smooth surfaces for effecting total reflection. The light guide member has a linear or arcuate end to be located adjacent to a scan line of the stimulable phosphor to receive and guide the light emitted by the phosphor and an annular end to be located adjacent to the light receiving face of the photodetector. The light entering the light guide member through the flat end is guided to the annular end by repeated total reflection.

  • Patent number: 4485481
Abstract: In a computed tomographic method in which a tomographic image of an object is composed from many X-ray projection distribution images obtained by exposing a section of the object to X-rays in many different directions, the X-ray projection distribution images obtained by respective exposures to X-rays are once stored at positions different from one another on a stimulable phosphor sheet, the stimulable phosphor sheet is then scanned with a stimulating ray, and a tomographic image of the object is composed by use of electric signals obtained by photoelectrically reading out light emitted from the stimulable phosphor sheet upon stimulation thereof. The stimulable phosphor sheet and an X-ray source are integrally rotated around the object, while the stimulable phosphor sheet is moved approximately at right angles to the plane formed by the rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 4484124
Abstract: In a disk drive system which uses as stepper motor, overshooting of the desired final position is reduced by short-circuiting the windings of the stepper motor which normally remain open-circuit or are switched off. This short-circuiting provides a current path for any EMF induced in the unused windings. This effect is achieved by connecting a pair of transistors in parallel with each other and with each respective winding. The transistors are connected in opposite polarity to provide a short-circuit regardless of the polarity of the EMF across the windings. The transistors are connected to a microprocessor which is programmed such that the windings are selectively short circuited and the short circuits are applied at a predetermined time with regard to the step so that `damping` is optimized. The microprocessor may be programmed to switch the transistors on and off as desired giving flexible timing to suit different conditions. One or more stepper motor steps may be treated in this manner.

  • Patent number: 4482882
Abstract: A moisture sensor comprises a moisture-sensitive layer formed from the oxide of highly resistive porous low density tantalum on a moisture-insensitive substrate. Between the substrate and the moisture-sensitive tantalum oxide layer there is a base electrode of an anodically oxidizable metal, preferably tantalum, of a density higher than the density of the low density tantalum from which the tantalum oxide layer is formed. A covering electrode partially covering the tantalum oxide layer has windows through which the water vapor containing medium can penetrate into the moisture-sensitive tantalum oxide layer. The inactive regions of the tantalum oxide layer disposed below the windows are removed to increase the rate of response.

  • Patent number: 4479316
Abstract: A label strip including a carrier strip and labels adhering in series to the carrier strip by means of an adhesive layer. The label strip is for use in label printing or dispensing apparatuses, in which the carrier strip is drawn by a pull-off device progressively around a deflection device where the labels are released from the carrier strip. The labels are made from a material stiffer than paper. The side of the labels facing the carrier strip is adhesive-repellent while the side of the carrier strip facing the labels has an adhesive-retaining surface. Moreover, the adhesive layer is applied as at least one narrow band to the carrier strip so that the areas of the side of the carrier strip which come into contact with the pull-off device are adhesive-free.

  • Patent number: 4476000
Abstract: A method of making a magnetic film target for use in sputtering characterized by forming a film of a magnetic material on a substrate by ion-plating a raw magnetic material thereon. The raw magnetic material is either identical with the magnetic film material or an ingredient or ingredients for constituting it. In the latter case, one or more metallic ingredients are simultaneously ion-plated in the same system to form a magnetic alloy or compound film on the substrate. To prepare a magnetic alloy target in which the composition changes in the thickness direction, the ion plating ratio of respective metallic ingredients is changed with time.

  • Patent number: 4474153
Abstract: Feedback control is carried out to maintain the rotational speed of an internal combustion engine during idling at a desirable speed determined according to the operating conditions of the engine by controlling an adjusting valve for controlling the amount of air to be fed to the engine. The actual rotational speed of the engine and the actual opening angle of the throttle valve are detected and when the actual rotational speed is lower than a predetermined value and at the same time the actual opening angle of the throttle valve is smaller than a predetermined value, the feedback control is carried out. Further, whether or not the driving power of the engine is operatively transmitted to the driving wheels is detected, and the predetermined value for the rotational speed of the engine is set at a higher value when the driving power is not transmitted to the driving wheels than when the driving power is transmitted to the driving wheels.

  • Patent number: 4472688
Abstract: A voltage switching amplifier circuit has a comparator which, after comparing signal amplitude to a comparison voltage, switches on a high voltage or low voltage amplifier depending upon whether the comparison voltage is exceeded or not. After the predetermined comparison voltage is exceeded, a positive feedback circuit reduces the comparison voltage enabling the high voltage amplifier to continue operation at least until the signal amplitude drops below the reduced comparison voltage. In a preferred embodiment, a time constant circuit maintains the high voltage amplifier in operation for a predetermined period of time during which the signal amplitude has dropped below and remained below the reduced comparison voltage.
