Abstract: An optical head with high light utilization efficiency that includes a diffractive optical element and a light source emitting beams with a plurality of wavelengths that can read plural types of information recording media. A beam emitted from a light source selectively emitting a beam with a first wavelength and a beam with a second wavelength that is approximately twice as long as the first wavelength is collimated into a parallel beam by a diffraction collimator lens, is bent by a mirror for bending an optical path, and then is focused by a diffraction objective lens on an information recording medium. Outgoing light from these diffractive lenses is substantially a second-order diffraction light with respect to the beam with the first wavelength and is substantially a first-order diffraction light with respect to the beam with the second wavelength.

  • Patent number: 6831487
Abstract: A driver stage uses a primary driver and a secondary driver to balance drive current when transmitting a new data bit different than bits consecutively transmitted immediately previous to the new data bit. The primary driver activates one of a pull-down device and a pull-up device whenever transmitting a data bit. The secondary driver activates one of its pull-down device and a pull-up device when two or more consecutive are detected to be transmitted. In this case, current flow of the driver stage induced by the first of the consecutive bits is reduced by the secondary driver.

  • Patent number: 6829548
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring static phase error in a delay locked loop includes a first test stage and a second test stage. The first test stage receives a reference clock, a chip clock, and a control signal. In parallel with the first test stage, the second test stage receives the reference clock, the chip clock, and a complement of the control signal. Dependent on the control signal, the first test stage outputs a first test signal, and, dependent on the complement of the control signal, the second test stage outputs a second test signal. The first test signal and the second test signal are used to generate a set of static phase error measurements dependent on values of the control signal and the complement of the control signal. By averaging the set of static phase error measurements, a static phase error is measured for the delay locked loop.

  • Patent number: 6828815
Abstract: A fault analysis method and apparatus which is able to improve the reliability of fault analysis of semiconductor integrated circuit. In case of supplying a test pattern sequence having a plurality of test patterns to the semiconductor IC, an analysis point whose electric potential changes according to the change of supplied test pattern is placed corresponding to the test pattern sequence. Then, a transient power supply current generated on the semiconductor IC according to the change of the test pattern is measured and determined whether the measured transient power supply current is abnormal or not. A defection point is presumed based on the test pattern sequence where the transient power supply current is abnormal, and the analysis point placed corresponding to the test pattern sequence.

  • Patent number: 6827838
Abstract: A method of separating and recovering 18F from 18O water at high purity and efficiency while maintaining the purity of the 18O water. By using a solid electrode (1) as an anode and a container (electrodeposition vessel) (2) made of platinum as a cathode, 18F in a solution (4) is electrodeposited on the solid electrode surface by applying a voltage. Then, by using the solid electrode (1) on which 18F is electrodeposited as a cathode and a container (recovery vessel) (5) holding pure water therein as an anode, 18F is recovered in the pure water by applying a voltage of opposite polarity to that of the electrodeposition. In this process, little 18O water is lost. The initial concentration of the 18O water is maintained even after the electrodeposition of 18F, so that the 18O water can be repeatedly used as an irradiation target for production of 18F.

Abstract: A method for forming a drill bit body is disclosed which comprises infiltrating powdered tungsten carbide with a binder alloy in a mold. The mold has therein at least one displacement adapted to form a mounting pad for a cutting element. The displacement comprises a substantially cylindrical body having a diameter selected to substantially conform to a radius of the cutting element and a projection adapted to form a relief groove under a position of a diamond table in the cutting element when the cutting element is mounted on the pad. The width of the relief groove is selected so that the relief groove extends back from an outer surface of the bit body at least about 40 percent of that portion of a thickness of the diamond table which does not extend past the outer surface.

  • Patent number: 6824308
Abstract: A temperature detecting device is provided which can reduce manufacturing cost. Provided that the pull-up resistance has a resistance value RP and the heat-sensitive resistance element has a resistance value RT, the voltage (V1) of the heat-sensitive resistance element in the case of the first voltage extraction mode is given by “VCC×RT/(RP+RT)” while the voltage (V2) of the heat-sensitive resistance element in the case of the second voltage extraction mode is given by “VCC×RT/(2RP+RT)”. When the two heat-sensitive resistance elements are normally operating (no occurrence of disconnection or short circuit failure), the voltages respectively extracted in the first and second extraction modes have a ratio matching a ratio of the foregoing two equations (V1:V2). Thus, the two heat-sensitive resistance elements can be positively determined for a presence or absence of failure.

  • Patent number: 6822267
Abstract: A signal transmission circuit, a CMOS semiconductor device, and a circuit board improve the signal transmission characteristic of a signal line having a large capacitance that is generated on the long signal line inside a large-scale integrated circuit when the signal line is long or when many driven circuits are connected to the signal line. The midpoint voltage of the power source voltage of the drive circuit and driven circuit is output. An assist-circuit having low output impedance is then connected to the signal line. The voltage of the signal line is thus held at the midpoint voltage of the power source voltage. At the same time, a drive signal that is output from the driver circuit is excited centered at the midpoint voltage (threshold voltage of the driven circuit) with a small amplitude. The driven circuit is then driven by this drive signal that is restricted to the small amplitude.
