Abstract: A semiconductor device includes a semiconductor substrate having a first main surface having circuit elements formed thereon, a second main surface substantially opposite to the first main surface, and a plurality of side faces provided between the first main surface and the second main surface. The semiconductor device also includes a plurality of external terminals formed over the first main surface and respectively electrically connected to the circuit elements. The second main surface has a first steplike section which extends from a first side face of the plurality of side faces to a second side face opposite to the first side face.
Abstract: A dual-slope analog-to-digital converter and a comparison circuit for the dual-slope analog-to-digital converter. The dual-slope analog-to-digital converter includes a buffer, an integrator coupled to the buffer and the comparison circuit. The comparison circuit includes a differential output comparator and a comparison unit. The differential output comparator is coupled to the integrator and produces a pair of differential signals to output. The comparison unit receives the differential signals and chooses a signal, whose voltage is from a first level to a second level, from the differential signals to produce an output signal.
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the amount of ink remaining in an ink tank using a sensing module and a detecting circuit is disclosed. The sensing module comprises a fixed device connected to the casing of the ink tank and a movable device connected to the bag. As the ink is ejected, the volume of the bag increases so that the movable device moves along with the bag. The detecting circuit, coupled with the sensing module, generates a corresponding detecting signal according to the variation in the relative position of the movable device and the fixed device, and the measurement of the ink amount is thus obtained.
Abstract: A loop coupled microwave cavity, which uses a cylindrical cavity as the main body and has a lock hole on the top of the cavity in order to connect to a loop-coupling end formed by bending the long pin of an SMA connector. The long pin of the SMA extends into the cavity through the lock hole so that the top end of the long pin will touch the inner wall of the cavity to receive a microwave signal in TM012 mode to excite the cavity. On the other hand, the coaxial structure formed by the long pin and the lock hole is a quarter-wavelength transformer, so the SMA connector has both loop coupling and impedance transforming functions to increase the Q factor of the cavity. A diminutive sample is inserted into the cavity to perform the cavity perturbation method (CPM).

Abstract: A driving circuit for an active-matrix liquid-crystal display short-circuits at least two of the signal lines in the matrix at times of transitions of signal-line potentials in the matrix. Charge stored in the parasitic capacitances of the signal lines is thereby recycled from one signal line to another, reducing the current consumption of the driving circuit. When alternating-current driving is employed, current consumption can also be reduced by reducing the frequency with which signal lines are driven from one side of a center potential to the other side.

Abstract: A picture decoding apparatus decodes a series of coded frames, each including a temporal reference. Past temporal references are used to estimate the temporal reference of the-current frame. If the temporal reference differs greatly from the estimated value, it is modified according to the estimated value. A coded frame may be divided into segments, each segment having its own temporal reference. In this case, the temporal references received in one coded frame are stored and compared, and a single temporal reference is selected for the coded frame. As a result, temporal-reference errors do not seriously disrupt the timing of the decoded picture.
Abstract: When a remote access terminal connected to a first Intranet receives provision of services from a second Intranet, a web server of the first Intranet loads a remote service execution environment to the remote access terminal. The second Intranet dynamically installs a service proxy on the second dynamic proxy server. Next, the second Intranet supplies a remote service interface to the remote access terminal via a first dynamic proxy server and second dynamic proxy server. The service proxy receives provision of services from the second Intranet instead of the remote service interface. The network of the present invention dynamically install service proxies on a dynamic proxy server when multiple Intranets are connected, and therefore, firewall tunneling by service unit is possible.
