Abstract: A method for controlling an engine coupled to a transmission is described. The method is especially suited for a transmission having at least one gear in which an over-running clutch is present. The invention describes a method for adjusting an engine operating parameter to maintain transmission input speed at or below a synchronous transmission input speed when the transmission is in the gear with the over-running clutch. The synchronous transmission input speed is based on transmission state and transmission output speed. Alternatively, vehicle speed can be used in place of transmission output speed.

Abstract: A system is described for improving engine and vehicle performance by considering the effects of exhaust conditions on catalyst particle growth. Specifically, engine operation is adjusted to reduce operating in such conditions, and a diagnostic routine is described for determining the effects of any operation that can cause such particle growth. Further, routines are described for controlling various vehicle conditions, such as deceleration fuel shut-off, to reduce effects of the particle growth on emission performance.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for a lamp housing is provided that blocks light and dissipates heat. The lamp housing encases or is integral to a reflector, and has an inner surface that absorbs radiation emitted by the lamp burner and an outer surface that allows for improved heat dissipation through radiation and convection means. The inner surface absorbs radiation and the outer surface is enlarged with a plurality of formations for improved heat dissipation through radiation and convection means. The housing also blocks stray visible light from escaping, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for light leakage systems.

Abstract: A process and a device are provided for monitoring the hydrogen concentration in a gas with at least one device, which comprises an electrochemical gas sensor and a bipotentiostat, e.g., for use in internal combustion engines with hydrogen, in fuel cells and in the petrochemical industry. The electrochemical gas sensor used has two working electrodes (3) and (4), with which the hydrogen and oxygen concentrations are determined in the gas in different steps due to the application of a voltage by a bipotentiostat (5-18). In an additional, optional step, a voltage in the range of ?1,100 mV to ?800 mV is applied to a working electrode (4), so that hydrogen is formed at the working electrode (4) and the functional surface of the working electrode (4) as well as the sensitivity of the working electrode (3) to hydrogen can be checked.
Abstract: A system and method of operating a vehicle powertrain that employs active control to reduce NVH, particularly during idle. The method includes selectively operating the powertrain in at least a non-idle condition and an idle condition; receiving vibration signals from a sensor disposed on an internal combustion engine; controlling spark timing of the internal combustion engine based on vibration signals received from the sensor; and during the idle condition, modifying a speed and/or a load of the internal combustion engine based on vibration signals received from the sensor.

Abstract: Dispensing more than one card or card like good is prevented to prevent issuing a duplicate with an automatic dispensing machine of card or card like good having a table which supports the piled up card or card like good. A sucking device is located over the table and pulls the card or card like good. A transporting device transports the card or card like good which is pulled by the sucking device. A moving device drives to change the distance between the table and the sucking device. A duplicate detecting device is located at a card transporting passageway which is located downstream the transporting device. A vibrator imparts a vibration to the card or card like good on the table. A separating device acts when the duplicate detecting device detects the duplicate of the goods. The separating device and the transporting device reverses, and the goods of card like is returned on the table. Afterwards the sucking device is stopped, then the vibrator is vibrated.

Abstract: A breath alcohol measuring device is provided with a pressure sensor (2) for detecting a signal representative of the breathing air flow and with an electrochemical sensor (1) for detecting a signal representative of the alcohol content in the breathing air and with evaluating means for processing the signals and for determining the breath alcohol concentration. Such a breath alcohol measuring device has a simple design and high measuring accuracy. The pressure sensor (1) and the electrochemical sensor (2) are connected for this purpose with a delta-sigma analog-digital converter (8), which converts the sensor signals directly into digital measured values for determining the alcohol concentration. The pre-amplifiers needed hitherto become unnecessary as a result, which has a number of advantages.
