Abstract: A coupling device between a glass fiber and a dielectric waveguide integrated on a substrate. A low-loss and low-back-scatter, but cost-effective coupling is achieved by that the fiber end being reduced--principally by drawing under heat exposure until breaking--to a diameter in the order of typical core dimensions of dielectric waveguides. A fiber receiving portion is provided on the substrate dimensions reduced in a way substantially corresponding to the glass fiber and the tip thereof changing over into the waveguide to be coupled. The glass fiber, during assembly, need only be inserted into the receiving portion up to a stop, where it is centered with respect to the waveguide, without tolerances.
Abstract: A device for adjusting the length of a support composed of an outer tube and an inner tube slidably inserted in the outer tube, includes an opening extending radially through the outer tube, a spacer radially movably received in the opening and confronted with an outer surface of the inner tube, a housing mounted on the outer tube in confronting relation to the opening, and a wedge slidably inserted in the housing to force the spacer radially inwardly against the inner tube. With this construction, the inner tube and the outer tube can be firmly fastened together with a great tightening force without damaging the inner tube. A stopper pivoted on the wedge and normally urged upward by a spring is able to preclude an unintended omission of driving the wedge or an incompletely driven or tightened condition of the wedge.

Abstract: Deleting the onset of flooding of a surface of an ultrasonic atomizer having an ultrasonic transducer with liquid to be atomized, in particular liquid fuel in connection with heaters, wherein the natural resonance frequency of the vibrating ultrasonic transducer is monitored for changes in frequency, and a flooding signal reporting a flooded condition is produced when a drop in resonance frequency over a previously detected resonance frequency is detected whose rate of decrease exceeds a set minimum threshold.
Abstract: In a tool for boosting (jump starting) a vehicle, it is know that there is a battery as a power source and booster cables to bring the energy to the engine. In this invention, the battery and the cables are incorporated into one unit which includes the battery, the cables and protective holsters (housing) to lodge the cables. The holsters are an integral part of the unit and swivel at 90.degree. (degrees) to permit easy access. In this way, everything can be carried in one hand. Also, because the unit can be easily placed close to the engine, the cables can be much shorter than regular booster cables. It is easier to use since there are only two connections to make instead of four. Finally, the holsters, which house the booster clips protect the user from short circuits.
Abstract: A process for preparing a bipolar transistor for very high frequencies is described, which is especially advantageous for the preparation of heterobipolar transistors and leads to components with low parasitic capacities and low base lead resistance. The process includes forming a structured first layer with collector zone and insulation areas surrounding the collector zone on a monocrystalline lead layer. A series of monocrystalline transistor layers are grown on the first layer over the collector zone by differential epitaxy and a series of polycrystalline layers is grown at the same time over the insulation areas. A series of polycrystalline layers is designed as a base lead.

Abstract: A window shade, in which a winding shaft, which is rotatably mounted with its ends on stationary pivot pins, can be coupled with a drive member at one of its ends. At least one rolling body is arranged in a recess, which is wedge-shaped in the circumferential direction, between an inner jacket surface of a pivot sleeve projection, which is rigidly mounted on the pivot pin, and an outer jacket surface of a shaft sleeve projection, which is rigidly mounted on the winding shaft. The rolling body acts as a locking member and is clamped in the wedge-shaped recess and can be released from the clamped position by an opening element movable by the drive member in the direction of rotation.
Abstract: Apparatus for the removal of one or more stitches of a knit article from the needles of a knitting machine and for the transfer and placement thereof onto other knitting members of the same or other machine. The apparatus including a device for driving each of the needles forming the stitches in the direction of their respective longitudinal axis; a device for removal of the stitches from the needles and the transfer thereof onto other knitting members of the same or other machine; and a device for supporting and/or driving the device for the removal and transfer of the stitches.
Abstract: A filter for separating pollutants from flue gases with a filter housing and with a plurality of filter boxes arranged therein at spaced locations horizontally one on top of another or vertically next to one another. These filter boxes contain the filter medium, which may be activated carbon, open-hearth furnace coke or a similar material. The filter boxes are sprayed with water via nozzles. The sprayed surfaces of the filter boxes are correspondingly designed as surfaces permeable to water. Flue gases flow into the filter boxes from the bottom. These surfaces of the filter boxes are correspondingly permeable to gas. A water collection box with vertical gas flow pipes, from which the collected water is pumped off and reused for spraying with water, is located under the filter boxes.

Abstract: A filter is inserted into a cylindrical hole of a nozzle body 1. The filter has an axial blind hole, which communicates with transverse or radial holes. The transverse holes open into peripheral longitudinal trap channels, which are axially open against a collection space. Via slot-like openings, the trap channels are connected to second or clean channels, which communicate with an outlet opening of the nozzle body. A flushing opening, which can be closed by a screw, leads from the collection space to the outside. When foreign bodies have accumulated in the trap channels, the flushing opening is opened, and the foreign bodies are flushed out with an injection stroke. As a result, the foreign bodies can be removed rapidly and in a simple manner.
Abstract: The invention relates to a vehicle heater with two circuits. One circuit leads from the vehicle's engine via a heating device and a heat exchanger back to the engine. The other circuit leads from the heating device via the heat exchanger back to the heating device. These two circuits may be automatically switched by a single valve, a two-way valve structurally combined with a check valve, so that no auxiliary power, e.g. current from the vehicle battery, is needed.
Abstract: A center with elongated slots (3) for reducing axial and transverse sections of the center. The elongate slots (3) are arranged in two series of intersecting helical alignments; on each of these alignments slots are arranged alternately with their greatest dimension along said helical alignment and transversely to it; at each intersection is a slot belonging to both alignments. When an axial compressive force is applied the slots shrink, thereby simultaneously reducing the axial and diametrical dimensions.

Abstract: A process for quality control in tablet production by pressing by means of influencing the pressing force, the weight, the hardness, and the height of the tablets by means of a control mechanism. The task of the invention is to develop a process of the type according to this concept, according to which all necessary control mechanisms for maintaining a constant tablet weight, tablet height, and tablet hardness operate in such a way that a rapid control of deviations is assured, and according to which, the limiting values can be optimized automatically, is hereby resolved in that the control system is divided into several influential and essentially parallel running control circuits for the simultaneous control of the pressing force as well as the tablet parameters of weight, height, and hardness.
Abstract: A presser foot is provided with a detachably arranged base. The base contains a needle passage opening and includes a plurality of guide grooves located at mutually spaced locations from one another on the under side of the base. The guide grooves are used for preparing pipings which extend in parallel to one another in the fabric. The middle guide groove extends centrally to the needle passage opening. The width of the needle passage opening essentially corresponds to a maximum overstitch width of the needle of a zig-zag sewing machine. A second and third guide groove extend, in a short distance, to the side of the needle passage opening. A fourth guide groove is provided with a distance from the middle guide groove which exactly corresponds to the mutual distance between the second and third guide grooves.
Abstract: An intercept device for flying objects is formed of a lightweight, small-volume, packable structure made of a tear-resistant, pliable material, which can be stretched to a large, two-dimensional or three-dimensional expansion by means of a deployment device. To reduce the velocity of the intercepted flying objects, activatable, aerodynamic resistance bodies are incorporated into the structure. To end the intercept procedure, elements are integrated into the structure, which consist of material that can be destroyed from outside by means of high-energy beams and/or chemical reagents, or that destroys itself, or the structure as a whole consists of such material.
