Abstract: A proximity sensor using the magnetic field of a single length of sensor wire. The sensor has a supply circuit for generating a magnetic field around the single sensor wire. The sensor also has a detection circuit for detecting when electrically conductive material intercepts the magnetic lines of flux of the magnetic field surrounding the single sensor wire. In a preferred embodiment the sensor wire is substantially straight and/or the detection circuit detects metal within a distance from the sensor wire approximately two or three times the main dimension of the cross section of the sensor wire. A plurality of sensor wires can be used and a passive actuator or scale can be used to intercept and alter the magnetic field surrounding the sensor wire. The scale can be formed of electrical short circuits aligned at constant steps. The sensor then detects the presence or absence or a short circuit in the magnetic field.

Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus for monitoring and calculating the position and speed of a projectile as it is pitched over a target zone. A grid of infrared emitters aligned with respective infrared receivers are in continuous optical links until the ball passes an d cuts some of the links. Upon this cut, the position of the ball is stored in memory and the time of passage of the ball across the grid is recorded to later calculate the speed of the ball. The infrared grid is enclosed in a chamber to prevent interference of external light rays with the reception of the receivers.

The vertical strips (2) are designed to be fixed to the patient's back in equal numbers on either side of the spinous processes and in line with the subjacent paravertebral muscles exhibiting contracture and said horizontal strips (1) being designed to ensure correct anchorage of the device to the patient's trunk.
Abstract: A food cooker is provided including a base provided with a heating plate and a temperature sensing element connected to temperature control devices. The sensing element is mounted on a sliding support so as to be maintained in contact with a bottom part of the pot. Provided inside the pot is a food stirring vane which is mounted in a rotating support driven from a motor located in the base. A vertical shaft extends upwardly through the center of the pot. Rotation of the shaft effects rotation of the support. The stirring vane receives rotational movement about an axis of the shaft from the support and receives further rotational movement about an axis passing through the vane by a gearing between the vane and the support.
Abstract: The apparatus--which is used for the continuous treatment of a linear manufacture, such as length of fabric to be dried, with a gaseous stream - comprises a hollow rotor device (3) capable of being set in angular motion about a substantially horizontal axis, in combination with means (16, 14) for feeding the manufacture (M) to an open end of said rotor and means (42) for drawing the manufacture from the other open end of said rotor; continuous conveyor belt means (65, 65A) extend through the rotor in order to slowly advance said manufacture inside the internal volume of the rotor along said rotor; and suitable means (22, 30, 9) pass conditioned air or some other treatment gas into and along said rotor in order to treat the material.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a process and a system for controlling the movements of an axis on program-controlled machines, especially industrial robots, comprising a position control unit and/or a velocity control unit and/or a power control unit. The loads acting on the axis from the outside during the operation are measured by one or several sensors. The load signal is fed back regeneratively in the sense of an increase in the position control variance and sent to the summation point of the position and/or velocity control unit. To increase or decrease the mechanical flexibility of the axis, a controllable amplifying or attenuating device is provided. The sensors may have different designs, corresponding to the loads to be measured. They are preferably directly associated with the axes.
Abstract: The invention regards a selflocking syringe. The syringe rod (13) is equipped with an extractor (15) which, when the syringe plunger (12) is pushed to the end of the stroke, hooks (15b) the needle (11) and withdraws it by means of a preloaded spring (16) to the inside of the rod (13), into a protected and inaccessible position, thus making the syringe unserviceable already after its first use.
