  • Patent number: 7289552
Abstract: K data signals, or bursts, are transmitted over a shared spectrum in a code division multiple access communication format. A combined signal is received and sampled over the shared spectrum, as a plurality of received vector versions. The combined signal includes the K transmitted data signals. A plurality of system matrices and an associated covariance matrix using codes and estimated impulse responses of the K data signals is produced. Each system matrix corresponds to a received vector version. The system and covariance matrices are extended and approximated as block circulant matrices. A diagonal matrix of each of the extended and approximated system and covariance matrices are determined by prime factor algorithm-fast Fourier transform (PFA-FFT) without division of the matrix. The received vector versions are extended. A product of the diagonal matrices and the extended received vector versions is taken.

  • Patent number: 7287070
Abstract: The present invention provides a new communication mechanism between the UE and the GGSN pertaining to Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) signaling, and coordinates and assigns responsibility for RSVP messaging. This ensures proper RSVP messaging, prevents unnecessary consumption of radio resources and reduces chances of collisions within the network. Also, the invention prevents the possibility that neither the UE nor GGSN respond appropriately to the RSVP requirements by halting transmission of any RSVP path/refreshment messages to the IP network in order to refresh/maintain the reservation states due to lack of clear assignment of responsibility. This lack of clear understanding between the UE and the GGSN may result in the expiration of the IP network resource reservations made earlier for media streams.

  • Patent number: 7287206
Abstract: Data of a time transmission interval is to be transmitted in a wireless communication system. The wireless communication system uses adaptive modulation and coding and has automatic repeat request mechanism. A transmission time interval has a plurality of transport block sets. The transport block sets are transmitted with a first specified modulation and coding scheme. Each transport block set is received and a determination is made as to whether the transport block sets meet a specified quality. When the specified quality is not met, a repeat request is transmitted. The specified modulation and coding scheme is changed to a second specified modulation and coding scheme that may support a reduced number of TBS's within the transmission time interval. In response to the repeat request, at least one of the transport block sets is retransmitted. The retransmitted transport block set is received. The retransmitted transport block set may be combined with a corresponding previously received transport block set.

  • Patent number: 7286486
Abstract: A method and apparatus which determine the minimum transmission power level of an access point (AP) for reliably communicating with at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in a wireless communication system. The apparatus obtains the range of the AP and estimates the interference to the AP by executing a slow interference estimation process and a fast interference estimation process. A required received power (RRP) of the WTRU is obtained from the interference estimate. The minimum transmission power level of the AP is determined by summing the range of the AP and the RRP.

  • Patent number: 7283825
Abstract: A method for admission control of control plane signaling requests includes receiving a signaling request. Upon receipt of the signaling connection request, a first determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to common resources. When the first determination is negative, a second determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to dedicated resources. When the second determination is negative, the signaling request is rejected. When the second determination is positive, the request is admitted to dedicated resources. When the first determination is positive, a third determination is performed to determine whether the quality of the signaling request is high or low. If the quality of the request is high, the signaling request is admitted to common resources. When the quality is low, a fourth determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to dedicated resources.

  • Patent number: 7280584
Abstract: A single transmitter transmits K communication bursts in a shared spectrum in a time slot of a time division duplex communication system. Each burst has an associated midamble sequence, a receiver knowing the midamble sequences of the K bursts. The receiver receives a vector corresponding to the transmitted midamble sequences of the K communication bursts. A matrix having K right circulant matrix blocks is constructed based in part on the known K midamble sequences. The wireless channel between the transmitter and receiver is estimated based on in part the K block matrix and the received vector.

  • Patent number: 7280618
Abstract: A digital baseband (DBB) radio frequency (RF) receiver includes a digital high pass filter compensation (HPFC) module used to suppress group delay variation distortion caused by using low cost analog high pass filters (HPFs) in the receiver. The digital HPFC module reduces a cutoff frequency, established by the HPFs for the real and imaginary signal component frequency domain responses by providing a first compensation signal having a first predetermined value (K1). The digital HPFC module adjusts the gain of the high pass response of the real and imaginary signal component frequency domains by providing a second compensation signal having a second predetermined value (K2).

  • Patent number: 7280829
Abstract: A wireless multi-cell communication system, such as a time division duplex (TDD) system, includes at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a plurality of base stations which broadcast beacon signals into a plurality of sectors of a cell of the system. Beacon channel acquisition performance is enhanced by reducing beacon channel mutual interference. Each of the base stations broadcast a beacon signal into at least one of the cell sectors in a first time slot at least another one of the cell sectors in a second time slot different from the first time slot. The WTRU determines, at a particular position, which one of the beacon signals has the best signal quality, acquires the one beacon signal and establishes communications via the base station that generated the one beacon signal having the best signal quality.

  • Patent number: 7276899
Abstract: A transducer comprising a fixed part and a mobile part which are mounted for relative motion about a given axis. On the shaft of the rotor part there is fitted a magnetized element consisting, for example, of an annular element diametrically magnetized at a single pair of poles. Mounted on the fixed part is a pair of Hall-effect sensors which are set angularly staggered by 90° about the axis of rotation of the shaft. The Hall-effect sensors generate corresponding output signals having values that vary in a continuous range. The values of the output signals generated by the transducer uniquely identify the relative positions of the aforesaid fixed and mobile parts with respect to the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 7274936
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring a channel quality in wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) which are equipped with a subscriber based smart antenna. The WTRUs are equipped with a smart antenna so that the WTRU generates a plurality of directional beams and, optionally, an omni-directional beam. A dwell time is provided in a measurement period to switch a beam from an active beam to a non-active beam. The active beam is one of the plurality of directional beams or, optionally, the omni-directional beam, for communication with one or more serving base station(s). A beam is switched to a non-active beam at the initiation of the dwell time. Signals are received through the switched non-active beam, and samples of the received signals are generated. The samples are stored in a memory. Channel quality is measured using the samples, whereby the dwell time to measure the channel quality is minimized.
