  • Patent number: 7120201
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and system for optimization of channel estimation and synchronization in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) wireless communication system. In accordance with the present invention, all of the training sequences are simply constructed based on a basic code by cyclically shifting the basic code. The training sequences are transmitted from different antennas in parallel without performing inverse fast Fourier transform. As a result, there is no peak-to-average ratio problem. Channel estimation is performed in each receiver based on the samples before fast Fourier transform and the maximum-likelihood estimate of channel response in time domain is then mapped into the frequency domain. The channel estimation is not only very simple in implementation, but also very efficient in computation.

  • Patent number: 7120188
Abstract: Outer loop/weighted open loop power control apparatus controls transmission power levels in a spread spectrum time division duplex communication user equipment (UE). The user equipment receives a communication including an transmitted power level and measures its received power level. Based in part on the measured power level and the transmitted power level, a path loss estimate is determined. A quality of the path loss estimate is also determined. The transmission power level for a communication from the user equipment is based on in part weighting the path loss estimate in response to the estimate's quality.

  • Patent number: 7116701
Abstract: A base station comprises a plurality of antennas. Each of the antennas is separated by a known distance. A first spread spectrum signal is transmitted having a first code. Using the plurality of antennas, a second spread spectrum signal is received having a second code. The second spread spectrum signal is time synchronized with the first spread spectrum signal. A distance determination is made based on in part a timing difference between the second code of the received second spread spectrum signal and the first code of the base station's transmitted first spread spectrum signal. A phase difference of a carrier signal of the second spread spectrum signal as received by each of the plurality of antennas is compared. An angle of the received second spread spectrum signal is determined using the known distance between the antennas and the phase difference. A location of a source of the second spread spectrum signal is determined using the determined angle and the distance determination.

  • Patent number: 7116276
Abstract: The present invention relates to an ultra wideband internal antenna, which is provided in a mobile communication terminal to cut off frequencies in a certain frequency band while processing ultra wideband signals. The ultra wideband internal antenna includes a first radiation part, a second radiation part, a feeding part and a ground part. The first radiation part is made of a metal plate on a top surface of a dielectric substrate and is provided with at least one cut part, formed by cutting out a lower corner portion thereof, and an internal slot. The second radiation part is formed in the slot of the first radiation part while being connected to the first radiation part, the second radiation part being conductive. In this case, the first and second radiation parts form an ultra wide band due to electromagnetic coupling therebetween using individual currents flowing into the first and second radiation parts.

  • Patent number: 7116705
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the processing rate when performing chip-level equalization (CLE) in a code division multiple access (CDMA) receiver which includes an equalizer filter. Signals received by at least one antenna of the receiver are sampled at M times the chip rate. Each sample stream is split into M sample data streams at the chip rate. Multipath combining is preferably performed on each split sample data stream. The sample data streams are then combined into one combined sample data stream at the chip rate. The equalizer filter performs equalization on the combined sample stream at the chip rate. Filter coefficients are adjusted by adding a correction term to the filter coefficients utilized by the equalizer filter for a previous iteration.

  • Patent number: 7117004
Abstract: A base station for controlling transmission power during the establishment of a communication channel utilizes the reception of a short code during initial power ramp-up. The short code is a sequence for detection by the base station which has a much shorter period than a conventional access code. The ramp-up starts from a power level that is lower than the required power level for detection by the base station. The power of the short code is quickly increased until the signal is detected by the base station. Once the base station detects the short code, it transmits an indication that the short code has been detected.

  • Patent number: 7110443
Abstract: A receiver and base station for producing phase-corrected channel signals. An adaptive matched filter produces a filtered signal by using a weighting signal. A rake receiver produces a filter weighting signal using a pseudo-noise signal generator. A channel despreader despreads the filtered signal using the pseudo-noise signal generated to produce a despread channel signal of the selected channel. A pilot channel despreader despreads the filtered signal using a pseudo-noise signal generator to produce a despread pilot signal of the pilot channel. A hard decision processor receives the despread channel signal of the selected channel and produces a correction signal. A phase-locked loop utilizes at least the despread pilot signal and produces a phase correction signal which is applied to produce phase-corrected channel signals.

  • Patent number: 7110384
Abstract: A code division multiple access base station is used in receiving a plurality of data signals over a shared spectrum. Each received data signal experiences a similar channel response. A combined signal of the received data signals is received over the shared spectrum. The combined signal is sampled at a multiple of the chip rate. A channel response is estimated as a channel response matrix at the multiple of the chip rate. A padded version of a spread data vector of a size corresponding to the multiple chip rate using a column of the channel response matrix, the estimated channel response matrix, the samples and a fourier transform. The spread data vector is estimated by eliminating elements of the padded version so that the estimated spread data vector is of a size corresponding to the chip rate.
