  • Patent number: 6850425
Abstract: A parallel inverter system includes a plurality of inverters of an instantaneous voltage control type, an output bus, an active power bus, a phase bus, and controlling devices. The output bus is used for connecting outputs of said plurality of inverters to a load. The active power bus is connected to the plurality of inverters so as to provide an active power sharing reference. The phase bus is connected to the plurality of inverters so as to provide a system phase reference. And, controlling devices control sinusoidal wave references of inverters to have the same phase, the reactive power, and the active power responsive to the active power sharing reference and the system phase reference. The related methods are also discussed.

  • Patent number: 6848018
Abstract: A hybrid serial/parallel bus interface method for a base station has a data block demultiplexing device. The data block demultiplexing device has an input configured to receive a data block and demultiplexes the data block into a plurality of nibbles. For each nibble, a parallel to serial converter converts the nibble into serial data. A line transfers each nibble's serial data. A serial to parallel converter converts each nibble's serial data to recover that nibble. A data block reconstruction device combines the recovered nibbles into the data block.

  • Patent number: 6845093
Abstract: A user equipment transmits a signature in a selected one of a plurality of time slots of a common packet channel. The common packet channel is defined by a predetermined set of codes and has a plurality of access opportunities. Each access opportunity is defined by a time slot of the plurality of time slots and a signature. An identifier of a selected code of the predetermined set of codes is identified. The selected code is selected from a currently unused code, if available, based on a code association with the access opportunity defined by the selected signature and selected one time slot. The user equipment communicates using the one selected code.

  • Patent number: 6845122
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) employs weighted open loop power control by receiving a communication and measuring its received power level. Based on, in part, the received communication's power level and the communication's transmission power level, a path loss estimate is determined. A quality of the path loss estimate is also determined. The transmission power level for a communication from the UE is based, in part, on weighting the path loss estimate in response to the estimate's quality.

  • Patent number: 6843587
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a surface light source apparatus in which a light guide pattern portion is formed on a light guide panel includes a pattern design system to which data about a pattern to be formed on the light guide pattern is input. A control system is connected to the pattern design system and transmits a position signal matching a coordinate value of each pattern to be formed on the light guide panel. A header moving portion mechanically moves vertically and horizontally according to the position signal received from the control system. A laser system outputs a laser beam according to a pulse signal synchronized with a movement of the header moving portion. A lens portion allows a laser beam output from the laser system to pass the header moving portion and to be focused on a scanning surface of the light guide panel. A warp prevention unit prevents the light guide panel from warping due to a local heating by the laser beam.

  • Patent number: 6845088
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and system for enabling efficient reduction of TFCs in the TFCS to achieve desired transmission, while remaining within desired power and data requirements. Upon the UE transmission power requirement exceeding the maximum or allowable transmission power the MAC shall be informed for subsequent TFC selection of all TFCs that currently exceed this limit. The UE will then chose the TFC with the next lower transmission power requirement and the sequence will continue until an acceptable TFC is determined. The present invention also enables the replacement of the TFCs in the TFCS and advanced determination of non-supported TFCs. The TFCs that require transmission power greater then the maximum or allowed UE transmission power shall be determined continuously in every TTI, not just in TTIs where the maximum power has been exceeded.

  • Patent number: 6842444
Abstract: A wireless communication system combines time and space diversity to reduce fading and simplify receiver design. In particular, a data packet which carries digital telephone traffic, is transmitted at three different times from three different antennas. The mobile subscriber receiver thus receives the same data packet at three different times from three different antennas, and uses the best data packet or combination of the data packets to reduce the effects of fading. A transfer station receives a time division multiplex multiple access (TDMA) signal from a base station carrying telephone data packet traffic to form three data packet repeats at spatially diverse antennas locations. The transfer station further modulates a code division multiple access (CDMA) system using a TDMA signal which links the mobile subscriber receiver to the transfer station. Each data packet received at the transfer station is thus retransmitted at three different times to the mobile subscriber station on a CDMA link.

  • Patent number: 6842618
Abstract: A method and system for performing call admission control in wireless communication systems is disclosed. Resource units required by a new user are assigned based on an outage probability of each uplink timeslot. The outage probability of each timeslot is updated as the resource units are assigned so that each resource unit assignment results in the lowest possible contribution to total outage probability. Once all of the resource units are assigned, the total outage probability is computed based on the resource allocation. If the total outage probability is below a predetermined value, the new user is admitted. If the total outage probability is above the predetermined value, the new user is rejected.

  • Patent number: 6837128
Abstract: A bicycle safety pedal including a toe element for receiving a front end of the cleat and a rear fastening device, which is suitable for engaging the rear end of the cleat when the rear end of the cleat is pressed over the rear fastening device. The cleat is released by moving the rear end laterally. The resting surface of the cleat on the pedal includes a cam surface for lifting the side of the cleat, which is moved away from the centre of the pedal when the releasing rotation is imposed on the cleat. The cam surface is only arranged on the side of the pedal facing outwards (with reference to the fitting condition of the bicycle), so to be operative only when the rear end of the cleat is moved laterally outwards, i.e., distanced with respect to the bicycle, starting from the engaged position.

  • Patent number: 6837370
Abstract: A recess is formed in a tray of a disc case. A peripheral wall portion of the recess is formed having disc supporting portions that support a disc in a manner such that the recording surface of the disc is floating. Spring elements are arranged along slots that are formed in the peripheral wall portion. Each spring element is formed having a protuberance and a guide surface. As the disc is inserted into the recess, the spring elements bend with their respective guide surfaces touched by an outer peripheral portion of the disc. The outer peripheral portion of the disc moves into the space inside the protuberances of the spring elements. When the disc is in the recess, the protuberances prevent the disc from slipping out of the recess.

  • Patent number: 6839567
Abstract: A base station for controlling transmission power during the establishment of a communication channel utilizes the reception of a short code during initial power ramp-up. The short code is a sequence for detection by the base station which has a much shorter period than a conventional access code. The ramp-up starts from a power level that is lower than the required power level for detection by the base station. The power of the short code is quickly increased until the signal is detected by the base station. Once the base station detects the short code, it transmits an indication that the short code has been detected.

  • Patent number: 6832096
Abstract: A system and a method of controlling transmitter power in a wireless communication system in which user data is processed as a multirate signal having a rate N(t) and in which the user data signal having rate N(t) is converted into a transmission data signal having a faster rate M(t) for transmission. The transmission power is adjusted on a relatively slow basis based on quality of data received by a receiver of the transmitted data. The transmitter power is determined as a function of N(t)/M(t) such that a change in the data rate in the multiple channels or the rate of the transmission data signal is compensated in advance of a quality of data based adjustment associated with such data rate change. Preferably, the user data signal having rate N(t) is converted into the transmission data signal having the faster rate M(t) by repeating selected data bits whereby the energy per bit to noise spectrum density ratio is increased in the transmission data signal.
