  • Patent number: 6901813
Abstract: A flow meter alarm device easily attached to and removed from a flow meter at various locations along the length of the flow meter. The device is compatible with flow meters which have a float for measuring flow velocity. The device preferably has two housings, extending from a third housing having a display surface, that define an area for receiving a flow meter. The extending housings are preferably drawn together by a threaded member thereby clamping the device onto the flow meter. A sensor mounted on the device, preferably an optical emitter coupled with an optical receiver, is able to detect the float. When the float is detected, a signal is produced by the device notifying that the flow rate has fallen outside a desired range. The device is adjustable to function with flow meters of various different dimensions.

  • Patent number: 6901832
Abstract: A method to remove pieces (14) cut off from bar-shaped workpiece material (5) by a cutting machine (1) is provided as well as an apparatus to carry out this process, wherein the piece (14) of the material (5) to be cut lies on a machine table (7) during cutting behind the cutting plane (8) in the direction of feed (9) of the material (5), is gripped between gripping jaws (12, 13) from behind the cutting plane (8) only. At the end of the cut, the cut off piece (14) is moved away from the cutting plane (8) by the gripping jaws (12, 13) in the material feed direction (9) and is tilted about an axis perpendicular to the material feed direction (9) such that its most recently cut surface is essentially horizontal and directed downward and that the piece (14) is then discharged by the gripping jaws (12, 13) by an essentially vertical motion downward onto an offload table (21).

  • Patent number: 6904294
Abstract: A subscriber unit for controlling transmission power during the establishment of a communication channel utilizes the transmission of a short code during initial power ramp-up. The short code is a sequence which has a much shorter period than a conventional access code. The ramp-up starts from an initial power level which is quickly increased, while repeatedly transmitting the short code until a detection signal is received by the base station. The use of short codes limits power overshoot and interference.

  • Patent number: 6898197
Abstract: A cellular radio system in which a base station receiver can receive, on the reverse link, data from a mobile terminal in one of four control modes. In the first mode, the mobile terminal sends an independent user pilot, not synchronized with the base station, on the reverse link and the user data channel is synchronized to this independent user pilot. In the second mode, the mobile terminal slaves its user pilot to the pilot it receives from the base station and the user data channel is synchronized with this slaved user pilot. This second mode allows the user terminal to receive round trip delay information for purposes of geolocation and rapid reacquisition. In the third mode, the mobile terminal slaves its user pilot to the incoming base station pilot, as in the case of mode two, but the user data channel operates in the orthogonal mode using the ranging information received from the base station. The phase relationship between the user pilot channel and the user data channel is calibrated.

  • Patent number: 6894995
Abstract: The system and method of the present invention establishes a communication link between a user equipment (UE) and a base station in a communication system having a plurality of base stations which each transmit a common primary synchronization code (PSC) in a primary synchronization channel in conjunction with a base station specific secondary synchronization code (SSC) within a system frame, which receives with the UE an input signal including the PSC and SSC from at least one of the base stations. The UE analyzes the input signal to detect any received PSCs within a selected time period which has duration corresponding to the length of a system frame and determining a relative location of a strongest PSC within the selected time period. The input signal is then processed to remove the PSC from at least the determined PSC location. A secondary synchronization code (SSC) is then detected for the determined location from the processed signal. The communication link is then established using the detected SSCs.
