  • Patent number: 6879578
Abstract: A time division duplex using code division multiple access user equipment receives a plurality of data signals in a time slot. Each data signal experiences a similar channel response. The user equipment receives a combined signal over the shared spectrum in a time slot. The combined signal comprises the plurality of data signals. The combined signal is sampled at a multiple of a chip rate of the combined signal. The similar channel response is estimated. A channel response matrix or a channel correlation matrix is constructed based on in part the estimated channel response. A spread data vector is determined based on in part a fast fourier transform (FFT) decomposition of a circulant version of the channel response or channel correlation matrix. The spread data vector is despread to recover data from the matrix.

  • Patent number: 6876665
Abstract: A spread-spectrum code division multiple access interference cancellation method employed by a remote terminal reduces interference in a direct sequence CDMA receiver having N chip-code channels. The interference canceller despreads the spread-spectrum CDMA signal as a plurality of despread signals, respectively. A timed version of the plurality of chip-code signals, spread-spectrum processes the plurality of despread signals, respectively, with a chip-code-signal corresponding to a respective despread signal. For recovering a code channel using an ith chip-code-signal, subtracting circuits subtract from the spread-spectrum CDMA signal, each of the N?1 spread-spectrum-processed-despread signals thereby generating a subtracted signal. The N?1 spread-spectrum-processed-despread signals do not include the spread-spectrum-processed-despread signal of the ith channel of the spread-spectrum CDMA signal. The channel correlator or channel-matched filter despreads the subtracted signal.

  • Patent number: 6876716
Abstract: Printed products, such as newspapers are fed past a counting station arranged in imbricated fashion, preferably folded edges passing downstream first. A high intensity light source is arranged so that its light beams are oriented at an angle which, while illuminating upper surfaces of the newspapers, causes the forward folded edges to cast a shadow upon the upper surface of a downstream newspaper that the forward edge of the newspaper creating the shadow rests upon. An image sensing device creates an image of a given region which includes the leading edge of the newspaper creating the shadow. This image is compared with stored criteria to determine if the “shadow” is due to a leading edge of a newspaper and to thereby discriminate a newspaper leading edge from other spurious conditions which, although they may create a “shadow”, fail to meet the criteria of a leading edge of a newspaper.

  • Patent number: 6874113
Abstract: A method for processing a received communication which includes periodic transmissions of a set of information segments. A first transmission of the set of information segments is received and processed to identify each of the segments as valid or invalid. The valid segments of the first set are then stored. Where all segments of the set are not stored, subsequent transmissions of the set of information segments are received and only those segments not previously stored are processed to identify each such segment as valid or invalid. The valid segments so identified are then stored. Subsequent transmissions are repeatedly received unless all segments of the set have been stored.

  • Patent number: 6873662
Abstract: A system and method of wireless communication determines received signal timing deviation which is used to generate a timing advance for adjusting User Equipment (UE) transmissions. An adaptive threshold for measuring the timing deviation is set based on the energy level of received UE signals. • Patent number: 6871606
Abstract: A method and device for regulating the transport of material in a sewing or embroidery machine (1) that uses information from a position or movement sensor (33) located underneath the throat plate (21). The controls for the sewing machine (1) calculate deviations of the actual feeding increments of the article to be sewn from the corresponding target values from the periodically read sensor signals. With this information, the feeding increments are regulated in such a way that the deviations are cancelled out by averaging.

  • Patent number: 6873833
Abstract: In a time-division duplex (TDD) system, a reliable initialization scheme that is applicable to an automatic gain controller (AGC) at a base station is implemented in various forms depending on the availability of certain information such as signal-to-interference ratio (SIR), spreading factors and other parameters. A more accurate estimation of the initial control word of a gain-adjustable amplifier for one or more time slots is implemented. The scheme is applicable to AGC initialization for each time slot of the TDD system, but is also applicable to other systems of transmission, without limitation.

  • Patent number: 6868211
Abstract: A process for automatically forming optical shuffles, which included providing a plurality of spools are provided, which are each formed from at least one fiber. The free ends of the fibers are led up to a winding device and fixed to the latter in such a way that the fibers can be wound onto it in one and the same winding direction and lying approximately parallel to one another. The sections of the fibers coming from the spool are combined with one another in groups to form ribbons. A first length section of each ribbon is unwound from the associated spool and wound onto the winding device (input side of the shuffle). After the length section has been unwound, the spools or fiber-guiding devices connected downstream of the spools are reorganized, so that, in a direction running transversely with respect to the unwinding direction, the outgoing fibers assume different positions relative to one another than before.

  • Patent number: 6866616
Abstract: A dual path helical ramp consisting of a wire rail formed as a helix, a straight rail, a closed transparent cylindrical wall rail, and a ball. The helical rail extends between a first elevation where the ball enters or exits the ramp to a second, lower elevation where a ball exits or enters the ramp. The straight rail extends through the center of the helical rail for the length thereof. The cylindrical wall rail extends outside of the helical rail for the length thereof. The helical rail is joined at either end of the straight rail and the straight rail is joined at either end of the cylindrical wall rail, thereby forming two elevations. The helical rail is dimensioned such that the distance between it and straight rail and it and wall rail is less than the diameter of the ball.

  • Patent number: 6868278
Abstract: A system and a method of controlling transmitter power in a wireless communication system in which user data is processed as a multirate signal having a rate N(t) and in which the user data signal having rate N(t) is converted into a transmission data signal having a faster rate M(t) for transmission. The transmission power is adjusted on a relatively slow basis based on quality of data received by a receiver of the transmitted data. The transmitter power is determined as a function of N(t)/M(t) such that a change in the data rate in the multiple channels or the rate of the transmission data signal is compensated in advance of a quality of data based adjustment associated with such data rate change. Preferably, the user data signal having rate N(t) is converted into the transmission data signal having the faster rate M(t) by repeating selected data bits whereby the energy per bit to noise spectrum density ratio is increased in the transmission data signal.
