Abstract: A method and a system for detecting and rewarding the returning of shopping carts to the supermarket collection points is provided. During shopping, a first signal A is generated. When a shopping cart is returned, a signal B is generated. These two signals A and B are correlated either in the supermarket or in an information device that the customer carries with him or her, in order to deliver a reward for returning the shopping cart. When the first signal A is generated, the customer or an information device carried with the customer is identified. Alternatively, the signal is provided to the customer at the supermarket checkout so that the customer himself/herself can take steps for the correlation of the signal A with the signal B that is still to be obtained.
Abstract: An optical sensor (1) with a light beam (7) created by a pulsed primary light source (5), which light beam is reflected at a surface (13) of an object and is recognized by a detector. In order to mask interfering effects, which might develop due to diffused light of the light beam (7), a compensation light source (25) emits a light cone during station breaks in operation of the primary light source (5), which includes the diffused light range of the light beam (7) of the primary light source (5). In this way, objects within the diffused light area create a compensation light portion, which prevents the activation of the sensor output merely by the diffused light of the light beam (7).

Abstract: A thrust bearing (16) for transmitting axial thrust forces between at least two gear parts (1, 5) rotating relative to each other in a gear arrangement is provided, with two coaxial, opposing race disks (17, 18) holding a cage (6) with a plurality of roller bodies (7) with radial play. To prevent discharge of lubricant to the greatest possible extent radially from the thrust bearing (16) and accordingly to be able to guarantee a sufficient axial supply of lubricant to the gear arrangement, it is provided that one race disk (17) has a smaller outer diameter than the other race disk (18), that both race disks (17, 18) each have external collars (19, 20) on the radially outer edge that extend axially inwardly, and the external collar (19) of the race disk (17) with the smaller outer diameter is covered axially by the external collar (20) of the race disk (18) with the greater outer diameter, such that an extensive encapsulation of the thrust bearing (16) against lubricant passage is guaranteed.
Abstract: A device for variably setting the control times of gas exchange valves of an internal combustion engine is provided having a hydraulic actuator (18) with two reciprocally operating pressure chambers (12, 13) and with a pressure medium supply device (32) for supplying and withdrawing pressure medium to or from the pressure chambers (12, 13). The device (1) also includes at least one rotation angle limiting device (24) that in an unlocked state does not limit the phasing of the output element (3) in reference to the input element (2) but, in a locked state, limits it to a defined angular range or to a defined angle, with the rotation angle limiting device (24) being switched from the locked to the unlocked state by pressure medium being supplied. A control line (19) is provided for supplying and withdrawing pressure medium to or from the rotation angle limiting devices (24), with the control line (19) not communicating with the pressure medium supply device (32).
Abstract: The provided delay lock loop delaying an input signal includes a quadrature generator, a voltage controller and a delay cell. The input signal is inputted into the quadrature generator and the delay cell. A phase-changing signal from the quadrature generator and a delay signal respectively from the delay cell are inputted into the voltage controller at the same time so that a control voltage inputted into the delay cell to control a delay time of the delay signal is generated. Also, the provided phase angle generator generates an output signal in an arbitrary phase.
Abstract: A spread spectrum base station for receiving a plurality of spread spectrum signals and a plurality of phased spread spectrum signals includes an antenna and a plurality of delay devices connected to the antenna, each delay device outputting a time-delayed spread spectrum signal. A combiner is connected to the plurality of delay devices for combining the time-delayed signals and the phased signals, the combiner outputting a combined signal. An RF/IF section is connected to the combiner and converts the combined signal into in-phase (I) components and quadrature-phase (Q) components. A plurality of despreaders are connected to the RF/IF section, each despreader despreading the I and Q components of the combined signal into a despread signal. A controller is connected to each of the despreaders and controls a corresponding delay device.
Abstract: A locking unit of a camshaft adjuster (1) for an internal combustion engine is provided, in which a locking pin (19) establishes a positive connection between a driving element and a driven element of the camshaft adjuster (1). The driving element and/or the driven element are formed by a plastic part. An insert (26) against which the locking pin (19) rests and which is supported relative to the plastic part in the area of an inner and outer contour is inserted into the plastic part. Providing large area support of the contours makes it possible to use plastic as a material in spite of the great stress that occurs, particular attention being paid to a good introduction of force into the plastic part.
Abstract: A method for receiving a segmented communication begins by periodically transmitting the segmented communication. The segmented communication is received and each segment of the segmented communication is examined to determine if the segment is valid. If the segment is valid, then the segment is stored. If the segment is invalid, then the invalid segment is identified. The segmented communication is retransmitted and received. Only the identified invalid segments of the retransmitted communication are examined to determine if the previously invalid segments are now valid.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for protecting sensed content and warning a target of sensing is disclosed. A first transceiver, (e.g., a network server), includes a database which defines at least one zone in which sensing a target is not permitted. A second transceiver, (e.g., a cell phone), senses a target to obtain content and temporarily stores the content in a memory, after being encrypted. The cell phone transmits information to the network server which indicates the location of the cell phone. The network server receives the location information from the cell phone and determines whether the target was sensed in a “Do Not Disturb Zone”. If so, the network server instructs the cell phone to delete the encrypted content from the memory. Otherwise, the network server indicates to the cell phone that the temporarily stored content may be decrypted, stored in a permanent memory and used as desired.
Abstract: Method and apparatus employing transparent session initiation protocol (SIP) technique for communication especially between a user device in one domain and an application/service provide in an external domain. The transparent SIP technique is usable in wired or wireless systems such as 3G systems and wireless local area networks (WLANs).
Abstract: A system and method for supporting mobile Internet communication is provided which employs a plurality of Routers and a plurality of Mobile Nodes (MNs). Each Router has a unique communication address. Each MN is associated with a home Router. Each Router has an associated Mobile Node Location List identifying each MN for which the Router is the home Router and the communication address of a Router corresponding to a current location of each such MN. Each MN is movable from an old location where the MN communicates with the Internet via one Router to a current location where the MN communicates with the Internet via a different Router. Communication at the current location via the different Router is established by communicating to the MN's home Router the communication address of the different Router as the communication address corresponding to the MN's current location.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the processing rate when performing chip-level equalization (CLE) in a code division multiple access (CDMA) receiver which includes an equalizer filter. Signals received by at least one antenna of the receiver are sampled at M times the chip rate. Each sample stream is split into M sample data streams at the chip rate. Multipath combining is preferably performed on each split sample data stream. The sample data streams are then combined into one combined sample data stream at the chip rate. The equalizer filter performs equalization on the combined sample stream at the chip rate. Filter coefficients are adjusted by adding a correction term to the filter coefficients utilized by the equalizer filter for a previous iteration.
Abstract: A spatial signal processing system and method are provided to optimize the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at a first radio communication device based on the transmit filter at another radio communication device. Using an estimate of the channel derived from a signal received at one device from another device, an iterative process is provided to determine complex weights for one or more tapped delay-line transmit filters at each of two communication devices that optimize the received SNR.

Abstract: A wireless communication method and apparatus for detecting and decoding enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) indicator channel (E-HICH) transmissions are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) receives E-HICH transmissions and detects an H-ARQ indicator transmitted via the E-HICH by performing a binary hypothesis test. The WTRU then generates an acknowledgement (ACK) message or a non-acknowledgement (NACK) message based on the detected H-ARQ indicator. A reliability test may be further performed to improve performance, whereby the binary hypothesis test may be performed only if the reliability test is passed.

Abstract: A system and method for reducing the latency from timing deviation (TD) measurement to time advance (TA) adjustment. The invention uses a deterministic procedure to coordinate time advance (TA) commands and timing deviation (TD) measurements so that failed transmissions or mobile terminals signal propagation changes can be recognized and corrected much more rapidly. Radio resource efficiency is maximized by minimizing signaling overhead through effectively reducing the frequency of time advance commands. This is accomplished by using TA command signals which include a Connect Frame Number (CFN) to specify particular radio frames for time advance (TA) adjustment. The potential for timing deviation (TD) measurements to be incorrectly processed in conjunction with adjusting a physical reception window and calculating mobile termination location is minimized, without excessive command signaling requirements.
