Reliability detection of channel quality indicator (CQI) and application to outer loop power control
Patent number: 7536154Abstract: A method for improving the reliability of a channel quality indicator (CQI) message in a wireless communications network begins with receipt of the CQI message. The CQI message is then decoded, and a decision metric value for each symbol in the CQI message is computed. A largest decision metric value and a second largest decision metric value for the CQI message are determined. The reliability of the CQI message can be determined by comparing the two largest decision metric values. This method may be applicable to high-speed downlink packet access in time division duplex, frequency division duplex, or other modes of transmission.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2003Date of Patent: May 19, 2009Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Marian Rudolf, Stephen G. Patent number: 7532671Abstract: An analog/digital gain control device avoid some of the requirements associated with the nature of a closed-loop AGC circuits and which meets the remaining requirements without much difficulty uses an analog to digital conversion method that increases the number of effective ADC bits by compressing the baseband input analog signal using a logarithmic circuit. After the compressed analog signal is converted into a digital signal, a digital anti-log process or look-up table (LUT) is used to expand the digital signal back to the original linear scale. The word size of the output of the anti-log process is larger than the input word size due to the nature of the anti-log function. To reduce the word size of the digital signal an open loop normalization technique can be applied.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2008Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Leonid Kazakevich, Rui Yang

Patent number: 7529264Abstract: A technique for allowing a first and second group of users to share access to a communication channel such as a wireless radio channel is disclosed. The first group of users can be a group of legacy users such as those that use digital CDMA cellular telephone equipment based on the IS-95 standard. The second group of users can be a group of web surfers that code their transmissions using one of multiple formats. The first group of users can share one modulation structure such as, on a reverse link, using unique phase offsets of a common pseudorandom noise (PN) code. The second group of users can share another modulation structure, but in a manner that is consistent and compatible with the users of the first group.
