  • Patent number: 4675354
Abstract: A glue is disclosed which comprises a solution of at least one water-insoluble synthetic organic polymer, such as PVC or ABS, in a solvent which essentially consists of one or several compounds selected from the group consisting of 5- or 6-membered water-miscible lactones or lactams having a melting point of at the most -10.degree. C., a boiling point of at least 200.degree. C. and a flash point of at least 90.degree. C., such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone or .gamma.-butyrolactone. The polymer or polymers may be present in a concentration of between 0.5 and 50% by weight, in particular about 10% by weight. The glue may be used at tropical temperatures without problems arising from solvent vapours and without fire risks. The glue is particularly useful for gluing soft PVC articles to hard PVC articles without loss of the soft character of the soft PVC, and for gluing different polymers, such as PVC on polycarbonate or polycarbonate on polyacrylate.

  • Patent number: 4671747
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydrostatic power steering unit of the type having a gerotor gear set forming a metering motor and a valve unit for routing pressurized fluid from an inlet port selectively via expansible chambers of the gerotor gear set to either one of two motor ports while connecting the other one of the motor ports to an outlet port. The housing of the valve unit, which has inner and outer rotary sleeve members, is arranged adjacent the gerotor gear set. A cardan shaft which connects the outer sleeve member to the gerotor star member has a gear head connected to the adjacent end of the outer sleeve member but the shaft itself is disposed mostly in the gerotor star member. The bore of the inner sleeve member has a smaller diameter than that of the shaft head connected to the outer sleeve member and the annularly and axially extending valving grooves of the inner valve member may thus have relatively greater radial depths and thereby relatively greater capacity.

  • Patent number: 4670808
Abstract: A clean cassette for cassette tape recorders comprising a holder for a cleaning member, which holder is pivotally connected at one end with a spring-biased pivot arm. The opposite end of the spring-biased pivot arm engages a cam device which in the operative position of the cassette is engaged by one coil shaft of the tape recorder. The opposite end of the holder is intermittently engageable with a second pivot arm. The second pivot arm is influenced in the operative position by a second cam device engaged by the second coil shaft of the tape recorder. Upon actuation of the second coil shaft, an end of the second pivot arm moves the holder against the action of the spring bias of the first pivot arm.

  • Patent number: 4669655
Abstract: The invention relates to a steam heating system and particularly to a vent control unit for a radiator in a one pipe type steam heating system. The vent control unit includes a thermostatically controlled valve for modulatingly venting air from the radiator to control the entrance of steam into the radiator in accordance with the heating requirements of the room. A check valve which bypasses the thermostatically controlled valve is provided to insure the admittance of air to the radiator during certain light heating conditions when the thermostatically controlled valve may be closed during a period when air must be admitted to the radiator to facilitate proper operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4670228
Abstract: Process for the recovery of valuable metals, particularly rare earths and similar metals, which occur in a finely distributed condition in a raw material containing calcium carbonate. The raw material with the valuable elements is subjected to vigorous heating to decompose calcium carbonate and is allowed to react with sulphur oxides, particularly SO.sub.2, so that the calcium present is converted to insoluble calcium sulphate. The valuable metals are extracted from the calcine by extraction with dilute acid or water, whereafter the valuable metals are recovered from the extract in a per se known manner. The heating and the reaction with sulphur oxides may be carried out by mixing the raw material containing the valuable elements with sulphur or a combustible sulphurous material, such as pyrite, and subjecting it to exothermic combustion.

  • Patent number: 4669582
Abstract: A device for gripping or locking a rope or wire comprises a pair of rope engaging members or jaw members defining a pair of oppositely arranged wire engaging surfaces forming a passageway for the rope. The jaw members are mounted in the frame of the gripping device by means of a swinging link suspension including a pair of swinging links. The jaw members are suspended so that the frictional forces acting between the rope and the jaw members cause displacement of the rope engaging surfaces thereon in mutual parallel relationship towards each other, when a pulling force is applied to the rope in a first direction, while the rope engaging surfaces are displaced away from each other, when a pulling force is applied to the rope or wire in a second opposite direction. This means that the rope is pinched between the rope engaging surfaces, when the rope is pulled in the said first direction, and released, when pulled in said second direction.

  • Patent number: 4666694
Abstract: A dry particulate sulfite-containing material produced in a flue gas desulfurization process is oxidized and agglomerated in a fluidized bed reactor, wherein the material is fluidized in an oxygen-containing gas. The oxygen-containing gas which is supplied to the fluidized bed has a temperature below the agglomeration temperature of said particulate material. Due to the exothermic character of the oxidation, the temperature of the fluidized bed is maintained above the agglomeration temperature of the particulate material. Gas with entrained particles leaving the fluidzed bed are cooled during its passing through the freeboard of the fluidized bed reactor, whereby problems due to sticking of said entrained particles are avoided. At least a part of said entrained particles are recycled to the fluidized bed reactor.A fluidized bed reactor is provided suitable for performing the combined oxidation and agglomeration.
