Abstract: Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microphone devices and methods for packaging the same include a package housing, an interior lid, and an integrated MEMS microphone die. The package housing includes a sound port therethrough for communicating sound from outside the package housing to an interior of the package housing. The interior lid is mounted to an interior surface of the package housing to define an interior lid cavity, and includes a back volume port therethrough. The MEMS microphone die is mounted on the interior lid over the back volume port, and includes a movable membrane. The back volume port is configured to allow the interior lid cavity and the MEMS movable membrane to communicate, thereby increasing the back volume of the MEMS microphone die and enhancing the sound performance of the packaged MEMS microphone device.

  • Patent number: 8804844
Abstract: Images are obtained for image compression. The images are compared using sum of absolute difference devices, which have arithmetic parts, and accumulators. The sign bits of the accumulators are determined at a time of minimum distortion between two images. These sign bits are associated with sets of probabilistically-similar parts. When other sets from that set are obtained later, an early exit is established.

  • Publication number: 20140217945
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatic resonance detection is disclosed for a motor-driven mechanical system such as a voice coil motor (VCM) in which a resonance detector and driver are provided. The automatic resonance detector may be implemented on the same integrated circuit as the driver, and dynamically determines the natural resonant frequency of the VCM driven by the driver. The resonant frequency is determined by measuring the back electromotive force (BEMF) of the VCM, detecting the slope of the BEMF signal, and determining the resonant frequency from the slope of the BEMF signal.

  • Patent number: 8796957
Abstract: A multi-string LED driving method and system requires generating pulse-width-modulated (PWM'd) driving signals to respective LED strings to control their brightness levels, and staggering the timing of the driving signals such that the number of LED strings driven on simultaneously varies over time by no more than one LED string. The PWM'd driving signals are generated to, for example, achieve local dimming for a display device which employs a multi-string LED backlight system; the present method enables local dimming to be achieved while maintaining a relatively constant load on the drive circuit. The staggering of the timing of the PWM'd driving signals is preferably implemented by arranging the ON times of the driving signals such that they occur serially, such that the loading imposed by the LED strings is spread throughout each switching cycle.

  • Patent number: 8794068
Abstract: Bulk acoustic wave (BAW) gyroscopes purposefully operate using non-degenerate modes, i.e., resonant frequencies of drive and sense modes are controlled so they are not identical. The resonant frequencies differ by a small controlled amount (?f). The difference (?f) is selected such that the loss of sensitivity, as a result of using non-degenerate modes, is modest. Non-degenerate operation can yield better bandwidth and improves signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) over comparable degenerate mode operation. Increasing Q of a BAW resonator facilitates trading bandwidth for increased SNR, thereby providing a combination of bandwidth and SNR that is better than that achievable from degenerate mode devices. In addition, a split electrode configuration facilitates minimizing quadrature errors in BAW resonators.

  • Publication number: 20140210546
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention may include a filter with programmable components, a tuning signal generator, a comparator, and a feedback system. The tuning signal generator may input first and second test signals into the filter and the comparator may sample the output of the filter in response to each respective signal. The comparator may then compare the sampled outputs to predetermined values. In response to the comparator's output, the feedback system may vary the programmable components of the filter until the search of the programmable components is exhausted, yielding first and second tuning results. Finally, the feedback system may determine a final tuning result based on the first and second tuning results. Consequently, the filter's actual corner frequency may be within an acceptable range of a desired corner frequency.
