Abstract: Method and apparatus for compensating for variations in the time base of a video signal reproduced in a longitudinal video tape recording system. The signal is passed through a charge-coupled device clocked by a variable rate clock signal to correct for the timing variations. Thereafter, a clamping circuit removes variable voltage offsets introduced by the charge-coupled device, to prevent objectionable horizontal streaking from occurring in the resulting video picture. A clipping circuit removes random noise from the time base pulses of the video signal prior to its passing through the charge-coupled device, whereby the clamping circuit is prevented from creating an objectionable flicker in the resulting video picture.

Abstract: Propylene oxide is prepared by elimination of water from propylene glycol which in turn is obtainable from propylene glycol acetate. The water is eliminated in the gas phase over a solid catalyst which consists of a weakly acidic carrier and an alkaline additive. The process offers a new method of manufacturing propylene oxide.

Abstract: A cross-linked graft polyester comprising the reaction product of an aminoplast and a graft polyester, said graft polyester comprising the reaction product of (1) an unsaturated polyester which is the reaction product of at least one polycarboxylic acid reactant, preferably a dicarboxylic acid reactant and at least one polyhydric alcohol reactant, preferably a diol, wherein a minor effective proportion of at least one of said reactants is .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated with (2) at least one monovinyl monomer reactant comprising at least one acidic monovinyl monomer containing at least one carboxyl group or a mixture of said vinyl monomer with any monovinyl monomer.
Abstract: This invention relates to a tape transport mechanism, particularly an improved contact winding tape transport system modified to protect it against tape transport disturbances occasioned by mechanical impacts. A shock-resisting coupling means is provided which is allocated to the reel carriers and which allows slow movements of the carriers toward and away from a drive capstan during normal working of the mechanism but prevents sudden movements of the carriers induced by mechanical shocks for instance. Piston/cylinder assemblies and magnetic rope/drum arrangements are disclosed as such shock-resisting means. The transport mechanism can be used advantageously in portable apparatus, preferably in magnetic tape recorders and especially in video cameras.
