Abstract: 2-(o-Hydroxyphenyl)-pyrrole and a process for its preparation, wherein o-benzyloxybenzoic acid allylamide is reacted with phosgene in an inert solvent, the resulting imide-chloride is cyclized in the presence of a strong sterically hindered base and the benzyl protective group is then removed by hydrogenolysis.2-(o-Hydroxyphenyl)-pyrrole is a valuable intermediate for the synthesis of drugs. In particular, alkylamino-hydroxypropyl ethers thereof can, because of their .beta.-sympatholytic actions, be used for the treatment of coronary cardiac diseases, cardiac arrhythmias and hypertonia.

Abstract: A single-phase antifreeze or coolant concentrate is disclosed comprising an alcohol, an aminosilicone-silicate copolymer and an organic basic buffer and corrosion inhibitor comprising a hydroxybenzoic acid or mixtures thereof. The concentrates are preferably used as coolants either undiluted or upon dilution with about 25 to about 90 percent by weight of water based upon the total weight of the concentrate. The alcohol is preferably ethylene glycol. The coolant compositions are effective in providing protection against corrosion of all metals and alloys used in industrial heat exchangers and are especially effective in inhibiting the corrosion of aluminum internal combustion engine and radiator components.

Abstract: A single-phase antifreeze or coolant concentrate is disclosed comprising a major proportion of at least one alcohol, at least one water-soluble silicate, and an organic basic pH buffer and corrosion inhibitor comprising at least one hydroxybenzoic acid. The concentrates can be used without dilution but are preferably used, upon dilution with water. The concentrates are generally diluted for use in with about 25 to about 90 percent by weight of water based upon the total weight of the concentrate. The alcohol is preferably ethylene glycol. The alcohol-based antifreeze and coolant compositions of the invention are effective in the protection against corrosion of all metals and alloys used in industrial processes and are especially effective when used to inhibit the corrosion of aluminum internal combustion engine and radiator components.

Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of butenediol-dicarboxylic acid esters by reacting butadiene with oxygen and a carboxylic acid in the presence of a noble metal catalyst containing platinum or palladium, the carboxylic acid is added to the reaction mixture in the form of the ester of the acid with a low molecular weight aliphatic alcohol such as methanol and the reaction is carried out under conditions under which the ester undergoes hydrolysis, or the hydrolysis is carried out before the main reaction. This enables the carboxylic acid obtained on further processing of the butenediol esters to be recycled.

Abstract: Photopolymerizable coating and recording materials, such as photopolymer dry film resist materials and photoresist materials, comprising at least one photopolymerizable olefinic compound, which materials contain, as activated photoinitiator system, a carbonyl compound that, when exposed to actinic light, forms free radicals which initiate polymerization, such as benzophenone and benzophenone derivatives, as well as a benzene compound having at least two dichloromethyl groups bound to the benzene nucleus, such as bis(dichloromethyl)-benzene and 2,5-dichloro-1,4-bis(dichloromethyl)benzene, and preferably also a dye which changes color in the presence of acid. The coating and recording materials of the invention exhibit improved curing when exposed to ultraviolet light for the usual periods and can be readily washed out with solvents without any damage to the exposed areas.

Abstract: Easily water-dispersed formulations of a phthalocyanine pigment which contain--based on the formulation--(a) from 70 to 95% by weight of finely divided phthalocyanine pigment of which the mean primary particle size is less than 0.5 .mu.m, and (b) from 30 to 5% by weight of one or more alkylarylsulfonic acids, where alkyl is of 4 to 20 carbon atoms, but the sum of the alkyl carbon atoms is not less than 8, which alkylarylsulfonic acids may be in the form of water-soluble salts. A fine dispersion of the formulations is obtainable by sprinkling the formulations into water and shaking. The dispersions obtained are stable and can be filtered through a paper filter without leaving a residue. The finely dispersed pigment is absorbed quantitatively on wool, cotton or paper pulp.

Abstract: Shaped objects including synthetic polymeric fibers with improved antistatic properties are prepared by incorporation therein about 1 to about 15% of a polyester antistatic agent prepared by reacting an N,N-bis(hydroxyalkyl) taurine salt with an organic polycarboxylic acid. Incorporation of the polyester into a synthetic polymer is accomplished by the process of preparing a melt or solution of the synthetic polymer and the polyester and extruding from the melt or casting from the solution to provide films, fibers and other molded objects exhibiting antistatic properties. A process for the preparation of the polyester antistatic agents of the invention, and for the preparation of the N,N -bis(hydroxyalkyl) taurine salts is also disclosed.
