  • Patent number: 4000065
Abstract: Aqueous streams contaminated with minor amounts of organic materials are separated into an aqueous fraction which is concentrated with respect to the organic contaminants and a water fraction relatively free of the organic contaminants by a method which includes a unique combination of reverse osmosis (RO) and ultrafiltration (UF). The organic contaminants include substances having molecular weights of less than 10,000 which are soluble in the aqueous stream initially but have limited solubility ranges and are precipitated therefrom upon concentration. The contaminated aqueous stream is circulated from the high pressure compartment of a RO unit to the high pressure compartment of an UF unit, then to the low pressure compartment of the UF unit, and then back to the high pressure compartment of the RO unit.

  • Patent number: 3997577
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of lavandulol and its esters, starting from the new compound 3,5,5-trimethyl-1,6-heptadien-3-ol, which is converted by conventional methods to 3,5,5-trimethyl-hepta-2,6-dien-1-ol or its esters, which are rearranged to lavandulol or lavandulyl esters by heating at from 150.degree. to 250.degree. C. Using the new process, the desirable product lavandulol, and its esters, which are also of great interest as scents, and even previously unknown lavandulyl esters, can be manufactured simply, in goods yields and in excellent purity, from easily obtainable starting compounds. Both the new starting compound 3,5,5-trimethyl-hepta-1,6-dien-3-ol and the new 3,5,5-trimethyl-hepta-2,6-dien-1-yl esters, obtained as intermediates, are scents and can be employed in the perfumery industry.

  • Patent number: 3997915
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the frequency modulation and demodulation of a carrier signal by a modulating frequency signal, whereby essentially the same apparatus is used for both functions. During demodulation, the modulating device is switched into a closed loop having a relatively narrow bandwidth, thereby permitting the carrier generated by the modulator to be locked in phase with the signal to be demodulated. During modulation, the loop is opened up and the modulator is used in a normal fashion.

  • Patent number: 3996337
Abstract: Alkali metal beryllo-alumino-silicates of the mordenite type form, under hydrothermal conditions (100.degree.-300.degree. C in a Carius tube), from aqueous mixtures containing the structural components SiO.sub.2, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and BeO and alkali metal hydroxides. In beryllium-containing mordenites, ratios of SiO.sub.2 to Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 of from 10:1 to 120:1 may be achieved, whereas values of only up to 10:1 are known in the pure alumino-silicates of this type. The alkali metal beryllo-alumino-silicates are accessible to ion exchange in the same way as the beryllium-free representatives. The so-called NH.sub.4 - and H-forms obtaineable by ion exchange may be used for the synthesis of highly active sorption compositions or catalysts after calcination.
