  • Patent number: 7587189
Abstract: Determination and processing for fractional-N programming values. The present invention is operable to receive a clock signal (CLK) and to transform that CLK into a new CLK, when necessary, for use by various circuitries within a system. The present invention is operable to generate two different CLKs for use by a radio frequency (RF) circuitry and a baseband processing circuitry in certain embodiments. The present invention employs a measurement circuitry and to characterize a first CLK and uses a fractional-N synthesizer to perform any necessary processing to generate the one or more CLKs to the other CLKs within the system. The first CLK may be received from an external source or it may be generated internally; in either case, the present invention is able to modify the CLK into another CLK for use by other circuitries within the system or for use by another external device.

  • Publication number: 20090219847
Abstract: A method and apparatus for communicating information between networked devices. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise, for example, a first networked device communicating information over a wireless communication network to a second networked device having power-save mode capability. The first networked device receives an incoming message from the second networked device. A first outgoing message is transmitted to the second networked device prior to transmitting a previously queued outgoing message. A second outgoing message is transmitted to the second networked device prior to the previously queued outgoing message being transmitted. Information may be communicated to the second networked device in a particular manner that depends on whether the second networked device has power-save capability. Communication medium access may be performed in a particular manner, depending on whether the second networked device has power-save capability.

  • Publication number: 20090222678
Abstract: An active powered device (PD) for the application of power over Ethernet (PoE). In a fixed power budget environment, it is important for the power sourcing equipment (PSE) to accurately determine a power budget for the various powered ports. An active PD can be designed to gather additional information (e.g., current and input voltage) during PD operation and to forward the additional information to the PSE. The PSE can then use the additional information to adjust operational parameters such as a power budget.

  • Publication number: 20090222383
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for secure transaction processing. A secure processor may include an integrated wireless card reader and optionally a secure memory. When a request for payment information associated with an on-line transaction is received, the integrated wireless card reader reads data from the payment card. The secure processor may retrieve a set of transaction identifiers from the payment card issuer or optionally a trusted third party. The secure processor transmits one of the retrieve transaction identifiers to the on-line merchant instead of payment card data. The on-line merchant communicates the transaction identifier to the payment card issuer or the trusted third party for validation. Alternatively, the secure processor may encrypt the read payment card data utilizing the payment card number as the shared secret required by the cryptographic algorithm. The secure processor then forwards the encrypted payment card data to the on-line merchant.

  • Publication number: 20090219942
Abstract: A method for transmitting data packets of at least two different priority levels via one or more bearer channels is described. The method comprises the steps of fragmenting a data packet into a plurality of corresponding code words, each code word comprising a sync code, with the sync code being adapted for indicating a priority level of the corresponding data packet, and of transmitting the code words via the one or more bearer channels. In case high priority code words corresponding to a high priority data packet arrive during transmission of low priority code words corresponding to a low priority data packet, the following steps are performed: interrupting transmission of low priority code words, transmitting the high priority code words corresponding to the high priority data packet, and resuming the transmission of the low priority code words via the one or more bearer channels.

  • Patent number: 7584359
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the invention may provide a method and system for secure access to a media peripheral in a home via a node in a communication network and may comprise attempting to identify previously acquired security data associated with the media peripheral. If the security data is not found, information associated with the home may be exchanged and security data associated with the media peripheral may be acquired and utilized to facilitate secure communication between the media peripheral and the communication network. The security data may also be authenticated and/or transferred to, for example, a media exchange server or other server coupled to the communication network. If previously acquired security data associated with the media peripheral is found, an identifier associated with the home may be acquired, authenticated, registered and/or distributed throughout the communication network.

  • Patent number: 7583179
Abstract: A transceiver for a RFID reader and a transceiver for a RFID transponder (tag) allow communication between the two devices. The RFID reader utilizes an analog front end and a digital backend. In the receiver portion of the transceiver, the front end of the RFID reader uses a pair of down-conversion mixers to demodulate a received signal into in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) components and analog-to-digital converters (ADC) digitize the signal. A digital signal processor (DSP) in the back end processes the digital signal and uses a matched filter for data detection. The RFID tag receives an inductively coupled signal from the reader and the receiver portion of the tag uses a pulse/level detector that employs an analog comparator and a sample and hold circuit to detect the received signal. A digital decoder/controller is used to decode the incoming data and to establish a sampling clock for the pulse/level detector.

  • Patent number: 7583941
Abstract: A technique to adjust gain and DC level of current DAC signals with offset to generate a voltage signal that is used to control power level of a power amplifier. One or more current mirrors from a set of current mirrors is programmably selected to set gain of a current-to-voltage conversion stage. A second set of current mirrors used to adjust DC level current is oppositely tracked to the current mirrors used for the gain. The opposite tracking allows for deactivation (or activation) of respective current mirrors in the second set in response to activation (or deactivation) of respective gain setting current mirrors to maintain a substantially constant DC level when gain values are changed. An additional set of current mirrors allows for independent compensation of DC offsets.

  • Patent number: 7583143
Abstract: Methods and systems for digitally controlling transmitter gain compensation are disclosed. Aspects of one method may include applying an effective negative resistance to differential outputs of amplifying circuitry to compensate for gain changes that may be due to temperature changes. The effective negative resistance may be provided via a plurality of load circuits coupled in parallel to the differential outputs. The plurality of load circuits may have similar effective negative resistances, or the plurality of load circuits may be binary weighted. Each load circuit may be selected via digital control signals that may enable the load circuit. This may allow adjusting of the effective negative resistance by selecting different load circuits.
