Abstract: A radio transceiver device includes circuitry for radiating electromagnetic signals at a very high radio frequency both through space, as well as through wave guides that are formed within a substrate material. In one embodiment, the substrate comprises a dielectric substrate formed within a board, for example, a printed circuit board. In another embodiment of the invention, the wave guide is formed within a die of an integrated circuit radio transceiver. A plurality of transceivers with different functionality is defined. Substrate transceivers are operable to transmit through the wave guides, while local transceivers are operable to produce very short range wireless transmissions through space. A third and final transceiver is a typical wireless transceiver for communication with remote (non-local to the device) transceivers. Additionally, a multi-mode transceiver is operable to configure transmit and receive circuitry based upon transmission path.

Abstract: A method and system for combining requests for data bandwidth by a data source for transmission of data over a communication medium is provided. A central node receives one or more bandwidths requests from one or more data sources via wireless communication. A scheduler then combines one or more bandwidths requests from the same data source to create a single data burst bandwidth. The central node then grants the data burst bandwidth to the appropriate data source via a communications medium.
Abstract: A technique for suppressing non-stationary noise, such as wind noise, in an audio signal is described. In accordance with the technique, a series of frames of the audio signal is analyzed to detect whether the audio signal comprises non-stationary noise. If it is detected that the audio signal comprises non-stationary noise, a number of steps are performed. In accordance with these steps, a determination is made as to whether a frame of the audio signal comprises non-stationary noise or speech and non-stationary noise. If it is determined that the frame comprises non-stationary noise, a first filter is applied to the frame and if it is determined that the frame comprises speech and non-stationary noise, a second filter is applied to the frame.

Abstract: An integrated receiver with multiple, independently synchronized clock signals for multiple channel transport stream decoding and delivery substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. An integrated circuit that services two satellite programs must generate and distribute corresponding time domain clocks to the various components of the integrated circuit. The transport block that receives one or more satellite signals from a demodulating block will extract program clock recover values from each signal being decoded and use these values to produce an error signal or control word that serves as an input to a clock generator. Based upon this input, the clock circuit will produce a corresponding time domain clock for each channel serviced by the integrated circuit. The output of the clock circuit is distributed to the various processing blocks within the integrated circuit that operate upon channel content received and processed by the transport block.

Abstract: A system and method for enabling power applications over a single communication wire pair. In one embodiment, a data transformer is provided that has three separate windings. Two of the windings are tied to each other via high frequency pass DC-blocking capacitors, or another suitable element that creates an AC path while providing a DC block, such that the voltage forms on either ends of the DC-blocking capacitors and the signal is sent on the outer legs of each winding. A circuit measures the current draw (I) and injects a current proportional to, but smaller than, I into a third bias cancellation winding.
Abstract: Current-controlled CMOS (C3MOS) fully differential integrated delay cell with variable delay and high bandwidth. A novel implementation includes a wideband differential transistor pair and a cross-coupled differential transistor pair. The wideband differential transistor pair can be implemented with appropriate input and output impedances to extend its bandwidth for use in broadband applications. These two stages, (1) buffer stage (or data amplifier stage) and (2) cross-coupled differential pair stage, are both very fast operating stages. This design does not incur any increased loading to previous or subsequent stages in a device. In addition, there is no increase in the total amount of current that is required.

Abstract: Embodiments of a unified communication and control bus architecture for Ethernet and/or PoE systems are provided. Embodiments enable a unified communication and control bus architecture that significantly simplifies communication and control in Ethernet and/or PoE systems. Embodiments enable significant savings both in terms of cost and complexity as the number of communication and control buses is reduced down to one. Embodiments can be used in various Ethernet and/or PoE implementations, including, for example, single PCB-single PoE, single PCB-multiple PoE, chassis-based switch, and stackable-based switch configurations. Further, embodiments can be implemented using standard Ethernet as well as proprietary implementations.

A first surface of die is mounted to the first surface of the substrate by a plurality of electrically conductive solder bumps. The heat sink has a first surface that includes a recessed region extending along a length of the heat sink in the first surface and that includes first and second supporting portions separated by the recessed region. The first and second supporting portions are attached to the first surface of the substrate such that the die is positioned in the recessed region. A second surface of the die is attached to a surface of the recessed region.
Abstract: A method and system for increasing the efficiency of providing bandwidth for voice traffic to a data provider via communication mediums is provided. This is generally accomplished by not transmitting any data during the silence periods and playing out background noise (i.e., comfort noise) at the other end, to obtain significant bandwidth savings.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for integrated circuit packages, and for package stacking, are provided. An electrically conductive frame is attached to a first surface of a substrate. The electrically conductive frame includes a perimeter ring portion, a plurality of leads, and a plurality of interconnect members positioned within a periphery formed by the perimeter ring portion. Each interconnect member is coupled to the perimeter ring portion by a respective lead. A first end of each interconnect member is coupled to the first surface of the substrate. An encapsulating material is applied to the first surface of the substrate, without covering a second end of each interconnect member with the encapsulating material. The perimeter ring portion is removed from the electrically conductive frame to isolate the plurality of interconnect members. A first integrated circuit package is formed in this manner. A second integrated circuit package may be mounted to the first package.
Abstract: A wireless access point and multiple wireless terminals exchange utilization, status, mobility and reception characteristics. Each wireless terminal generates reception characteristics based on transmissions received from the wireless access point and from other devices in the network. In one operating mode, the characteristics gathered by the wireless devices are forwarded to the wireless access point, and, based on all received characteristics, the wireless access point selects its own transmission power for different types of the transmissions. The access point transmits to client devices at reduced power levels, however, periodic beacons and other selected non-beacon transmissions are transmitted at a high power level to facilitate association by other client devices. In another mode, all characteristics are exchanged between every wireless terminal and the access point so that each can independently or cooperatively make transmission power control decisions.

Abstract: A method of optimizing a communication system for receiving and processing an input communication signal includes selecting a first noise margin m to be applied against an external noise present on the input communication signal. The method further includes selecting a second noise margin mi to be applied against an internal noise introduced on the communications signal by the communication system. Abstract: A new topology for a buck-boost switching regulator is provided herein. Embodiments provide an efficient buck-boost switching regulator that provides a regulated output voltage from an unregulated input voltage. Embodiments include a buck-boost switching regulator topology, where the operating mode is determined separately from the pulse-width modulated (PWM) control signal. This topology, in one embodiment, provides a better transient response than typical buck-boost switching regulator topologies, where PWM control circuitry and operating mode circuitry are combined. Furthermore, embodiments provide a buck-boost switching regulator that allows for high efficiency when the output voltage is close to the input voltage.
Abstract: Various embodiments are disclosed relating to techniques to reduce spurs in wireless transceivers. In an example embodiment, a first fractional-N divide ratio for a first frequency synthesizer may be set based on a selected channel. A second fractional-N divide ratio for a second frequency synthesizer may be set to a fixed value independent of the selected channel. The second fractional-N divide ratio may be set to a value that is sufficiently distant from an integer value so as to decrease the likelihood of at least some type(s) of spurs.
