  • Patent number: 7650527
Abstract: Self-calibration of devices such as computer and graphics processors permits adjustment of processor clock rates, and access to normally unused processor capacity. Processor clock rates specified by device manufacturers are normally selected to insure operation across the entire manufacturer-specified range of operating temperatures and supply voltages. By limiting processor clock rates to nominal values, even when operating well within manufacturer-specified temperature and/or supply voltage limits, designers sacrifice processor capacity. By determining the upper limits of processor clock rates at which reliable operation can be realized, and adjusting processor clock rates to match those speeds, a representative embodiment of the present invention permits device users to gain additional, previously inaccessible processing capacity.

  • Patent number: 7650132
Abstract: A circuit is formed to steer current in and out of an inductive load in a manner that enables an amplifier to provide a plurality of gain steps without modifying an LC time constant for the circuit and, therefore, without modifying the tuning or frequency of oscillation for the circuit. A first group of MOSFETs are coupled in parallel and define the circuit current flow. A second group of MOSFETs are coupled in parallel to each other and in series to an impedance device. A third group of MOSFETs coupled to steer current in and out of the impedance device to affect the output signal coupled to one end of the impedance device. The transistors in the second and third groups of MOSFETs are selectively activated to control the amount of current that goes through the impedance device.

  • Publication number: 20100009673
Abstract: In RF transceivers, a method and a system for a frequency feedback adjustment in digital receivers are provided. A DC offset may result from the difference in frequencies between an RF transmitter and an RF receiver. An adjustment of the receiver's frequency may be implemented after synchronization occurs and may be performed by, for example, utilizing a header portion of a packet communicated via a wireless interface. The adjustment may be performed when the frequency difference exceeds a threshold value. In another aspect, adjusting the frequency of the RF receiver may be performed by modifying and/or changing a phase locked loop (PLL) trimmer register. This approach may allow an RF receiver to operate, in some instances, without the need for an equalizer. In this regard, the power consumed by the RF receiver may be minimized and/or the overall cost of the RF receiver may be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7647223
Abstract: A sub-quantizer for sub-quantization of a vector includes a sub-codevector generator that generates a set of candidate sub-codevectors, and transformation logic that transforms each candidate sub-codevector into a corresponding codevector. A memory stores an illegal space definition representing illegal vectors. A legal status tester determines legal codevectors among the codevectors based on the illegal space definition. • Patent number: 7647035
Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) transceiver includes an RF transmitter that generates an outbound RF signal at a carrier frequency that is based on a transmitter local oscillation. An RF front-end receives an inbound RF signal that includes a desired signal component that is based on the outbound RF signal and that includes an undesired signal component. • Patent number: 7646253
Abstract: A frequency-locked clock generator includes a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a frequency-to-current converter, a reference current source and a gain stage. The VCO generates an output signal. The frequency-to-current converter generates a converter current proportional to a frequency of the output signal. The reference current source generates a reference current. The gain stage generates a control signal based on a difference between the converter current and the reference current. The control signal is applied to the VCO to adjust the frequency of the output signal. Feedback forces the VCO to generate an output clock signal such that the corresponding current it produces (i.e., the converter current) is equal to the reference current. When in lock, the frequency of the output signal is determined by a time constant (or equivalent time constant) of the frequency-locked clock generator.
