  • Patent number: 7236882
Abstract: A wireless terminal displays its location and navigation information (map segment) on its display. The wireless terminal accesses a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver of the wireless terminal to determine its location coordinates. The wireless terminal determines a maximum data size for navigation information to be downloaded. The wireless terminal sends a navigation information download request to a map server via a supporting wireless network infrastructure that includes the location coordinates and the maximum data size. The wireless terminal receives navigation information that has a data size no greater than the maximum data size and displays the navigation information on the display. The wireless terminal may display a map segment and an icon representing the wireless terminal at a location corresponding to the location coordinates of the wireless terminal with respect to the map segment. The wireless terminal may download a premises map from a premises map server.

  • Patent number: 7236212
Abstract: An integrated receiver with channel selection and image rejection substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. A receiver front end provides programable attenuation and a programable gain low noise amplifier. Frequency conversion circuitry advantageously uses LC filters integrated onto the substrate in conjunction with image reject mixers to provide sufficient image frequency rejection. Filter tuning and inductor Q compensation over temperature are performed on chip. The filters utilize multi track spiral inductors. The filters are tuned using local oscillators to tune a substitute filter, and frequency scaling during filter component values to those of the filter being tuned. In conjunction with filtering, frequency planning provides additional image rejection. The advantageous choice of local oscillator signal generation methods on chip is by PLL out of band local oscillation and by direct synthesis for in band local oscillator.

  • Patent number: 7236494
Abstract: In a frame-switched network, a sender sends frames to a receiver over a possibly unreliable channel. Sent frames include frame identifiers that can be used for a limited automatic repeat request. Upon receipt of a frame, the receiver determines, from the frame identifier, if frames prior to the received frame were lost in transit. If the receiver determines that it missed a prior frame, the receiver sends the sender a negative acknowledgment (nack) for the missed prior frame or frames. Otherwise, if the receiver receives a frame correctly, it does not acknowledge the frame. The frame identifiers can be a set of sequential integers with frames transmitted in sequential frame order. In some embodiments, when a receiver receives a frame out of order, the receiver buffers the out of order frame in a receiver buffer for a receive buffer period until preceding frames are received or a receive buffer period expires.

  • Patent number: 7237183
Abstract: A method or apparatus for error identification of a BCH encoded signal includes processing that begins by receiving a BCH encoded signal in a binary polynomial format to produce a received polynomial. The processing then continues by converting the received polynomial into a plurality of error identifying polynomials. The processing then continues by recursively processing the plurality of binary error identifying polynomials to produce a plurality of error identifying values. The processing then continues by processing the plurality of error identifying values to produce an error locator polynomial that represents error in the received polynomial. The processing then continues by evaluating the error locator polynomial to identify the bit location of the error in the BCH encoded signal. The processing then continues by correcting the BCH encoded signal based on the bit location of the error.

  • Publication number: 20070140321
Abstract: Successive interference canceling for CMDA. ICI may result from a signal's multi-path effects, or by filtering/suppression of some of the component energy of the signaling waveforms. Energy component attenuation destroys orthogonality of CDMA symbols thereby causing ICI. An ICF suppresses frequency domain portions (attenuates ingress), but also introduces ICI. Following the ICF, the signal is de-spread sliced, re-spread and convolved with the ICF echoes (except first tap echoes). Convolving re-spread hard decisions with delayed ICF taps is equivalent to partially re-modulating the first-pass hard decisions to efficiently “add-back-in” the signal energy which was blanked/subtracted by the ICF. Alternatively, parameter estimation de-rotates and re-rotates soft symbols and hard decisions, respectively compensating for undesirable symbol rotation. The convolved signal is subtracted from a delayed version of the ICF output signal.

  • Publication number: 20070140212
Abstract: A communication system, including a receiver, is described having a common clock source that drives both carrier frequency (fc) and sampling frequency (fs). The receiver comprises a first signal processing stage for down converting a received data stream to baseband, a demodulation module coupled to the first signal processing stage for demodulating the down-converted data stream, and a second signal processing stage coupled to the demodulation module for decoding the demodulated data stream. Additionally, the receiver includes a carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation module and a sampling frequency offset (SFO) correction module. The SFO correction module receives an estimated CFO, and then determines an SFO correction based on the estimated CFO, and applies the SFO correction to the received data stream.

  • Publication number: 20070140302
Abstract: A supervisory communications device, such as a base station within a wireless network, monitors and controls communications with a plurality of remote communications devices, such as mobile nodes, throughout a widely distributed network, including the Internet. The supervisory device establishes the upstream slot structure and allocates upstream bandwidth by sending messages over its downstream channel. The supervisory device also uses the messages and minislot counts to anticipate bursts from the remote devices. Dual registers are provided within the supervisory device to generate minislot counts. A primary register generates minislot counts for a current slot structure, and a secondary register generates minislot counts for a revised slot structure. Software executed on the supervisory device determines a switchover time for changing to the revised slot structure and revised minislot count.

  • Publication number: 20070140209
Abstract: A plurality of base station devices are linked together and synchronized to facilitate communication between the respective base station devices and respective downlink subscriber stations. According to one embodiment of the invention, one of the base station devices is designated as a master device, and the other base station devices are designated as slave devices. The respective base station devices are connected to each other by means of a synchronization bus. The master base station device then generates and broadcasts a future time stamp value, which is received by the respective slave base station devices. When the time stamp counter in the master base station device reaches the transmitted value, a control signal is broadcast over the synchronization bus. The slave base station devices then retrieve the time stamp value and reset their respective local time stamp counters to the received value. In this manner, the base station devices are synchronized.

  • Publication number: 20070143811
Abstract: Typical transceivers have multiple near-end and multiple far-end crosstalk cancellation filters. Crosstalk cancellation is one of the largest contributors to power dissipation in the DSP portion of high speed Ethernet transceivers. By detecting the cable type, a transceiver could automatically turn off its crosstalk cancellation filters when driving shielded twisted pair (STP) cables and substantially reduce the overall power dissipation in this configuration. Adaptive digital crosstalk cancellers automatically adjust the coefficients of a digital filter to match the coupling function between two channels. The impulse response of an optimal crosstalk cancellation filter can be used to determine a metric indicating the amount of coupling between the two channels. STP cables will have a much lower amount of coupling between wire-pairs than unshielded twisted pair cables.

  • Patent number: 7233774
Abstract: A single chip radio transceiver includes circuitry that enables received wideband RF signals to be down-converted to baseband frequencies and baseband signals to be up-converted to wideband RF signals prior to transmission without requiring conversion to an intermediate frequency. The circuitry includes a low noise amplifier, automatic frequency control circuitry for aligning a local oscillation frequency with the frequency of the received RF signals, signal power measuring circuitry for measuring the signal to signal and power ratio and for adjusting frontal and rear amplification stages accordingly, and finally, filtering circuitry to filter high and low frequency interfering signals including DC offset. The circuitry further includes a multi-stage mixer that produces current signal outputs from each mixing stage to a subsequent stage thereby avoiding a need for intermediate transconductance and output stages to convert between current signals and voltage signals.
