Abstract: An assembly is illustrated for use in connection with the main cylinder and the like of a carding machine wherein an annular shroud has a segmental portion of reduced thickness for providing a ledge type bearing surface for support and securement directly to the card frame, the shroud also having a bearing receiving recess so that the cylinder mounting shaft may be supported within the shroud. The bearing has a pair of parallel inserts, spaced on each side of the shaft, having thickened inner portions for engaging the inner race of the bearing for removing the bearing while the cylinder is carried within the card frame. The shroud provides an arcuate mounting surface for positioning stationary card flats facilitating the provision of means for resiliently carrying the flats yieldably urging them downwardly while permitting adjustment of the settings.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of nitric oxides, which can be used for the production of nitric acid and for the production of fertilizers based on these, which process for the production of nitric oxides comprises establishing an electrical discharge, passing through the discharge a mixture comprising air and nitric oxide as seeding material, and recovering the produced nitric oxides. The invention further relates to a mobile and easily transportable system for effecting such process, which comprises at least one discharge device, means for supplying air to said discharge, means for supplying electricity and means for introducing nitric oxide as seeding material into the discharge zone.
Abstract: A wheel cylinder comprises a bore closed by two pistons which define a pressure chamber therebetween. The pressure chamber is divided into two compartments by a partition member placed in the bore and which comprises a passage communicating the two compartments. One of the compartments is connected to a source of pressurized fluid and a control valve is mounted in the passage for controlling the pressure in the other compartment as a function of the pressure in the one compartment, whereby the wheel cylinder acts as a proportioning valve.
Abstract: A method of making a device for tobacco consumption, comprising forming an elongated hollow member, forming a mouthpiece at one end of said hollow member and a bowl portion for receiving a plug of tobacco, preferably pre-formed, at the other, and providing means for bending the hollow member at least at one location between the two ends. This invention further pertains to a device for tobacco consumption comprising a stem portion and a bowl portion with a pre-formed bending place between them.
Abstract: An alkali salt composition free from hydroxides, melting at a temperature in the region of or greater than 180.degree., and usable in its molten state as a negative electrolyte for accumulators comprising an alkali metal negative electrode and an alkali alumina separator, contains an alkali metal amide, at least one alkali halide and an alkali hydride. It may also contain aluminium amide.

Abstract: A process of integrating a photochromic substance, especially a spiropyran or a metal dithizonate, into a transparent substrate of polymerized organic material such as poly [ethylene glycol di-allyl di-carbonate] by thermal transfer, comprising applying the photochromic substance alone or with a solvent and/or thickening agent to the surface of a transparent organic substrate such as a lens disc, and heating until the photochromic substance is sublimed and then diffused and anchored in the organic material of the lens, preferably just beneath the surface to which it is applied. Preferably, the photochromic substance is initially carried on a temporarily support for application.

Abstract: The invention is a method of assembly for a ball-and-socket joint of the preloaded type with automatic taking up of play, comprising a housing, a pivot, a bearing element disposed between these later and a locking ring. After the disposing in the housing of the various components of the joint, the latter is axially loaded until a predetermined value is obtained for the tilting torque, and once this value is obtained, the ring is crimped in the housing by means of punches acting radially, without alteration of the predetermined value of the tilting torque. Application of the ball-and-socket joint assembly in particular for suspension or steering of an automobile vehicle.
Abstract: A multi-element connection for structural members adapted to connect the structural members in co-linear arrangement and to automatically lock these members in such position, which connection is adapted to be rotated or folded to bring such structural members into such co-linear or lapped position with respect to each other, the connection being comprised of a latch element secured or integral with one of the members and a clevis element secured or integral with another of said members, the latch element having a cam surface and an arcuate notch with end abutments whereby a latching member in said clevis element may ride on the cam surface and be brought into engagement with said notch to lock said elements and co-joined structural members.
Abstract: A hollow three dimensional metal article is formed by cutting two identical flat metal blanks, forming a hole in one of the blanks and upsetting the metal around the hole to accommodate the head of a threaded hollow stud having a sealing collar without interference when the blanks are in face contact, placing the blanks in face contact while the stud is in place, welding the metal blanks together continuously around the entire perimeter of the superimposed blanks, and forcing liquid under pressure through the hollow stud until a precise preset maximum pressure is reached to inflate the blanks to their final three dimensional form. Optional steps include cutting off the portion of the three dimensional form in which the stud and the opening for the stud are located and welding a standard fitting into the opening thus created and the provision of other portions of the three dimensional object with other attachments and fittings.
Abstract: Screen printing stencils are prepared by afixing to a printing screen substrate an indicia-defining, ultraviolet-sensitive film and cross-linking the film by exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The coating compositions used to form the film comprise copolyacrylate/polyurethane block copolymers, in which the copolyacrylate blocks are copolymers of at least one hydroxy-containing acrylate and at least one acrylate or methacrylate which may be partially substituted with bromine, ultraviolet initiators and cross-linking monomers. Screen printing stencils are provided which are compatible with both water-based and oil-based inks. The disclosed screen printing stencils are used in improved screen-printing methods.
Abstract: In the course of this method, an amount of expansible mixture is poured into a mould, after which the mould is obturated by means of a plug. A vacuum is created in the chamber of the mould by way of the plug so as to cause the foaming of the mixture. The vacuum is maintained for a period after the foamable mixture has filled the whole of the volume of the mould. At the end of the polymerization of the foamable mixture, the vacuum may be re-applied in the mould, preferably for several cycles, so as to cause the cells of the foam obtained to burst.
Abstract: Apparatus for automatic packaging of products such as concrete blocks in pallets formed by stacking layers of the blocks including a fixed table having supports along its sides and a moveable carriage disposed above the table on guide rails. The carriage is slideable having a translatory movement along the rails and carries gripping members for holding and releasing the blocks so as to move the blocks to form reserved spaces in the pallet for the tongs of a pallet handling device. The reserved spaces are formed in a given layer of the blocks in the pallet by causing the gripping members to hold and release the blocks in cooperation with detection and spacing devices for forming a given number of reserved spaces in the desired layer of blocks. The reserved spaces are created in a layer of blocks during the continuous movement of the carriage in the same direction.
