Abstract: A fire resistant fitting including a pair of plates having a fire rated expandable material therebetween and a pair of conduits extending from each plate with one conduit of each pair in alignment with a respective conduit of the other pair and a respective passage in the expandable material to extend separate power and communication connections through a floor. Threaded members extend from one plate through the other plate for squeezing the expandable material against the sides of the floor opening in which the fitting is located and stops on the threaded members prevent the application of excessive force to the material.

Abstract: A clutch thrust bearing assembly includes a roller bearing, a clutch release fork for moving the roller bearing axially and a spring. The spring is connected to the inner race of the roller bearing and has opposite portions which bear against the two branches of the clutch release fork to center the fork relative to the bearing.
Abstract: A ventilating system for use with protective clothing of the type including a head enclosure and an outer covering for a user's body is described. The system provides for the distribution of air from a pressurized source to a user's limbs to provide a flow of air thereabout while insuring that sufficient pressurized air is delivered to the head enclosure for respiration and to maintain a positive pressure plenum therein under all conditions.
Abstract: Multiplex time division switching network unit comprising a plurality of P groups of N incoming and outgoing multiplex highways and P incoming and outgoing supermultiplex highways each formed of N multiplex highways and having 2aN time slots where a is the number of time slots in a multiplex highway. The supermultiplex highways are multiplexed two by two and with themselves to form double supermultiplex highways each having 2aN time slots. It results that there exists a double supermultiplex highway simultaneously containing any time slot assigned to a calling party and any time slot assigned to a called party whatever be these time slots. The buffer stores of the switching network unit can thus be rendered bidirectional and their number is P(P+1)/2 instead of P.sup.2 in the prior art.

Abstract: The invention concerns the manufacture of a porous product based on nickel, hromium, tungsten, molybdenum, iron, cobalt or an alloy of these metals. The porous product is characterized on one hand by the fact that it comprises 85 to 99.5% by weight of the base material and 15 to 0.5% of a fusible auxiliary metal chosen from among tin, indium, gallium, germanium and mixtures and alloys of these metals and, on the other hand, by the fact that the base material is in the form of elementary particles such as powders, fibers or chips, bonded to each other by means of diffusion brazing.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a crown for enclosing therein the firing mechanism of a pistol having a stock and a hand guard for protecting the trigger. The pistol is characterized by the fact that to the stock there is removably attached an extension rod which extends in two sections in a direction opposed to that of the barrel. The extension rod has a T-shaped extremity. The hand guard for the trigger has pivoted thereon a lever urged by a small spring-loaded piston to become blocked either in a first active position that is downwardly inclined with respect to the crown of the pistol, or in a second inactive or rest position through the displacement of the lever toward and near the crown itself.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of determination of the change in subsurface structure of the earth resulting from the application of fluid pressure at a selected point, at a selected depth, in the earth, by measuring at least one physical parameter of the contour of the subsurface of the earth above the point of application of fluid pressure. The method involves positioning a plurality of tiltmeters on the earth above the point of application of fluid pressure arranged in a known array, and measuring the change in angle of tilt of the earth's surface at the point of placement of each sensor while varying the pressure and flow rate of fluid into the earth at the selected point.
Abstract: A fire resistant fitting for use in sealing a floor hole and including a pair of plates having an expandable material therebetween for securing the fitting in the hole and a fire resistant material suspended in the opening from the lower plate by a simple twistable metal tang.

Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of steroidal .DELTA..sup.4,6 dienones by the electrochemical dehydrogenation of the corresponding .DELTA..sup.3,5 enol ethers under basic conditions, using less than stochiometric amounds of a high potential catalyst, such as 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-benzoquinone, in a partially aqueous electrolyte solution.
Abstract: Cheese is produced by a process wherein milk is subjected to partial ultrafiltration, heat denatured serum proteins are added to the milk before or after ultrafiltration, the milk is coagulated to form a curd wherein 1/4 to 1/2 of the total serum proteins contained in the curd are the added heat denatured proteins, and the curd is drained to produce curd containing a total amount of serum proteins substantially equal to the total serum protein content of the starting milk. The addition of heat denatured serum proteins overcomes a problem of alternation in the normal ripening cycle of cheeses produced from ultrafiltered milk containing an increased quantity of soluble serum proteins.

Abstract: A shim is clamped between a component of a vehicle bumper assembly and a support member to provide a desired spacing for bumper alignment. The weight of the shim and the cost of material for its manufacture are minimized by forming the shim from sheet metal half the thickness or less of the desired spacing, and by folding the metal over inserts to provide multiple thicknesses in selected load bearing and other regions. A number of openings may be provided to further reduce the weight. Additional folded areas may be used for applications where loading is not restricted to areas adjacent the bolts, and ribs may be embossed in the shim to facilitate mounting of the shim and enhance its stiffness. The composite shim is finally "bumped" to give it a uniform taper.
Abstract: A process for pressure welding two metal bars together by their ends which omprises bringing together the ends to be welded, the ends being in a wedge-shaped form and at a temperature between melting temperature and 450.degree. C. below the melting temperature, pressing both ends together in the longitudinal direction of the bars so that the ends penetrate into each other, with the edges of the wedges in crossing relationship, and continuing to press both ends into each other until substantially all of the surface material of both wedges is expelled out of the cross-sectional shape of the welded bars.

The latch releases the coil as the result of a finger on the latch catching on the target as the arrow penetrates.
Abstract: A baseball bat has its handle, shaped to be grasped by the hand of a user, extending on into an enlarged hitting portion that continues away from the handle. Included in that hitting portion is a velocity meter situated in a cavity that extends longitudinally inward toward the handle from the outer end. A plunger is slidably received within that cavity and is resiliently held in place. Also included is an indicator which informs as to the amount of movement of the plunger outwardly from within the cavity as a result of the swinging of the bat by the user.
