  • Patent number: 4278696
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for deacidifying a coffee extract without the introduction of foreign products by selective absorption with a natural material, chitosan. In this process, the extract is contacted with chitosan in divided form and the deacidified extract is collected after separation from the chitosan. Preferably the coffee extract is contacted with chitosan for 5 to 30 minutes at a temperature from 10.degree. to 80.degree. C. and in ratios (extract/chitosan) of from 15 to 400 ml per gram. The chitosan may either be suspended in the coffee extract, or the coffee extract may be percolated through a column filled with chitosan.

  • Patent number: 4278539
Abstract: Method and apparatus for removing heavy metals as sulfides from aqueous liquids. The aqueous liquid is introduced into a circulating liquid loop wherein there are established a mixing zone, a controlled precipitation initiating zone, a crystal growing zone and a crystal settling zone. The aqueous feed liquid containing H.sub.2 S dissolved therein and at a pH below that at which the sulfide is precipitated is mixed in the loop with a pH-adjusting liquid; and the degree of supersaturation with respect to the metal sulfide is maintained within the controlled precipitation initiating and crystal growing zones in the metastable condition so that the growth rate of the metal sulfide crystals remains greater than under uncontrolled conditions vis-a-vis the nucleation rate to effect the production of metal sulfide crystals of a character which makes it possible to separate them through clarification and filtration.

  • Patent number: 4277509
Abstract: Primary extraction of ground roasted coffee. The coffee is first extracted with an amount of aqueous extraction liquid sufficient to extract substantially all of the dry soluble solids from the coffee, but preferably not so large that the extract must be concentrated for further processing. The coffee is next extracted with an aqueous extraction liquid to extract hydrophobic flavor components. The hydrophobic flavor components are removed from the resulting extract by stripping and recovered as a concentrated aqueous solution.

  • Patent number: 4277225
Abstract: A rotor for jet engines includes a drum formed by disks and carrying blad Between the blades of two adjacent stages, braces are interspaced, the braces being projections which engage in sockets provided for this purpose on the disks. Each disk has two series of sockets, one receiving the roots of the blades, and the other, interspaced between the preceding, the projections of the braces. The blades are immobilized in translation at the upstream end by one ring and downstream by another ring, against which the roots of the blades of the terminal stages abut. The invention is particularly applicable to the building of axial type compressor rotors having several stages.

  • Patent number: 4274849
Abstract: Method of liquefying a mixture of gas rich in methane by performing an auxiliary cycle and a main cycle in which are used an auxiliary and a main refrigerating fluid of several components. In each cycle are performed the compression, cooling, liquefying and sub-cooling of the refrigerating fluids in counter-flowing relationship with themselves after expansion-vaporization in a heat exchanger. The gas to be liquefied is cooled in parallel with said main refrigerating fluid which has been pre-cooled in the auxiliary cycle. Pre-cooling of said gas is performed in an exchanger cooled by the refrigerating main fluid after its expansion-vaporization in said heat exchanging column of said main cycle and before its re-compression.
