  • Patent number: 5875998
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for optimizing the aerodynamic effect of the airfoil of an aircraft by defined changes in camber. The method includes the following steps:a. determining the flow for the flight condition caused by the change in camber,b. comparing the ascertained characteristic values with stored nominal reference values for an optimal flow,c. forming differential values between the characteristic values and the stored nominal reference values,d. deriving actuator signals from the differential values, ande. changing the camber by motor, based on the actuator signals, for minimizing the differential values. The optimum wing flow is thereby maintained more exactly. For transonic wings, the position and strength of compression shocks is also effectively controlled, which leads to a reduction of the direct shock induced separation.

  • Patent number: 5877600
Abstract: This invention provides a process for determining a desired load value for a load-dependent current generating system, particularly a fuel cell system, in an electric vehicle. Based on an accelerator pedal demand, a desired value for the motor line currents of the electric driving motor is determined in the driving motor converter, and therefrom a desired load value is generated directly for the current generating system.

  • Patent number: 5873644
Abstract: A reading lamp system for passengers especially in an aircraft is equipped with at least one central light source preferably including a cool light lamp, the light of which is supplied through light guides such as fiber optical conductors, to individual reading lamps having a housing to which the respective light guide is connected. A liquid crystal film is positioned in the lamp housing between the light exit of the respective light guide and a lens that provides a light output from the reading lamp housing. The liquid crystal film is controllable in its light transparency by a passenger through a switch, whereby the passenger can make the liquid crystal film opaque to switch off the reading lamp or transparent to switch on the lamp. A dimmer may also be arranged to provide intermediate light level illuminations.

  • Patent number: 5874051
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for selective catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide, the gas mixture and an additionally added oxidizing gas are conducted through a reactor containing the catalyst. Oxidizing gas is added at several points along the mixed gas flow path with a controlled or regulated through flow volume. The mixed gas stream is cooled passively by static mixing structures located in the inlet area of the CO-oxidation reactor. By controlling exothermal CO oxidation along the reactor path, a very variable process guidance is provided, that can be adjusted to individual situations.

  • Patent number: 5874727
Abstract: The invention provides a method for continuous acquisition, identification, and attack of helicopters operating with concealment, using a missile with an integrated target search head computer control. The visual field of the search head is adapted optimally in both the search phase and in the target tracking phase. During the search phase, the missile travels a flight path roughly parallel to the surface of the ground, and the axis of the line of sight is directed diagonally downward at a suitable angle. During a target tracking, the line of sight runs collinearly with the missile axis. The natural radiation of the helicopter modulated by the rotor blade movement is used for target recognition.

  • Patent number: 5868427
Abstract: A triggering circuit for a passenger restraint system for motor vehicles is provided with at lest one belt tightener for tightening a safety belt associated with a vehicle seat. A triggering circuit evaluates the acceleration signal from an accelerometer and delivers a triggering signal to the belt tightener when a critical impact is detected. An evaluation channel detects a rear-end collision. In the evaluation channel, on the basis of the acceleration signal that appears in the event of a rear-end collision, a travel signal that characterizes backward displacement of the passenger is determined that permits the triggering signal to be output to the belt tightener when a threshold value is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 5868111
Abstract: In a fuel injection control system for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine including a high pressure fuel pump for supplying fuel under pressure to the fuel injection valves of the various cylinders through a distribution line including a fuel distribution element dividing the fuel supply to two groups of fuel injection valves, the fuel distribution element includes a piston disposed in a cylinder and adapted to interrupt fuel flow to any one of the two groups in which a leak occurs such that fuel supply to the other group of fuel injection valves can be maintained for an emergency operation of the engine. If small leaks are detected by the electronic engine operating control, the valves of one of the groups are momentarily deactivated to cause the distribution element to interrupt the fuel supply to the other group of fuel injection valves.
